Chapter Eleven: Libby Hears Everything

FUTURE CINDY (trying to retain her composure): The only thing I can do.

CARL: What’s that?

FUTURE CINDY: I’ll let all of you go back and I’ll rescue them. No sense in putting you guys in danger.

**Sheen, Carl, and Libby all seem fine with this plan, but Cindy does not. She takes a breath and steps forward.**

CINDY: I don’t know about you three, but I’m not going back without Neutron. He’s risked his life to save us before, and I think we should do the same for him. Anyone with me?

LIBBY: I’m with ya, girl. I think what you’re doin’ is really sweet.

CINDY (realizing what Libby means): I’m not doing this because I like him!!

SHEEN: Well, I for one want to go back and see my Ultralord marathon. (Pumps fist into air) WHO’S WITH ME?!?!?

LIBBY: Sheen, you better stop foolin’ around, or I’m not gonna go with you to the Candy Bar when we get back.

**Upon hearing this, Sheen scurries over beside her.**

SHEEN: I’m with both of you!! What about you Carl?

CARL (timidly): Well, I don’t know…I think I’m allergic to evil lairs and--

**He is cut off by Cindy’s glare. As quickly as he can, he runs to join his friends.**

CARL: Okay, I’ll help.

**Proud that she was able to rally her friends, Cindy turns to her future self.**

CINDY: We’re staying to help. Now, what’s the plan?

FUTURE CINDY: Right now, I don’t know. I’m going to come up with one tonight. I guess you guys will have to stay in the guest rooms tonight. We’re gonna have to walk home since I don’t have the keys to the van.

**Turning on her heels, Future Cindy begins to walk in the direction of the house. Following her lead, Sheen, Libby, Carl and Cindy walk a small distance behind her. Libby looks behind her to see that Cindy is slowly shuffling along, a forlorn expression on her face. Libby falls into step with her best friend.**

LIBBY: Cin, what’s wrong?

CINDY (looking up): Nothing’s wrong.

LIBBY: Girl, if nothing’s wrong than why do ya look so sad? Does this have something to do with Jimmy being captured?

CINDY: Ugh, no! Why would I be upset about that?

LIBBY: Maybe because the last thing conversation you had with him was an argument?

CINDY: How did you --

LIBBY: I hear everything. If you feel bad, just think ‘bout your future self. Her husband got captured, after all.

**Cindy nods as she gently kicks a pebble. She looks up at Libby.**

CINDY (very quietly): What if we can’t rescue them?

LIBBY: We will. Don’t worry ‘bout it.

**Before Cindy can answer, the group arrives at the house. Future Cindy ushers them upstairs and into two separate rooms.**

FUTURE CINDY: Okay, you guys should to go to sleep. I’ll be in my room, working on the plan if you need me.



Hmm, not really a cliffhanger for this one, but I think I did a pretty good job with it. It's a tad on the depressing side (for me, anyway), but ah well. Please tell me what you thought!!!
