*grumbles*

*SIGH* you know what I don't like? When a book has the trope of a woman having a baby and the book is like ... "she thought she knew love before this.. but she didn't." LIKE. Why? I KNOW motherhood is a unique kind of love, and frankly, mothers are freaking miracle workers. But to even slightly insinuate that other women don't or won't experience the full depth of love until childbirth? UGH. THE FURY I FEEL.

It's just one of my biggest pet peeves.

Preach, sister.

I finished the loveliest book yesterday.

A Letter to the Luminous Deep is an epistolary novel which made it unique (for me at least. I haven't read many.) There was fantasy and mystery, romance and friendship.

I have to admit some of it went over my head, and a few parts moved a little slowly since the language and style took some getting used to, but overall it was a heartwarmng novel.

I'm about 60% through my current read and wondering what I'm going to pick up next. I have four other loans out from the library, two physical books and two ebooks. Three of these are books I've never read before and one is.....

Pride and Prejudice.

*I was looking something up OKAY?! and i was too lazy to go get one of the four physical copies I own LOL

But now I'm like.. well, since it's already borrowed, I really should do my yearly re-read, right? RIGHT?!

"Mr. Darcy had at first scarcely allowed her to be pretty; he had looked at her without admiration at the ball; and when they next met, he looked at her only to criticize. But no sooner had he made it clear to himself and his friends that she had hardly a good feature in her face, than he began to find it was rendered uncommonly intelligent by the beautiful expression of her dark eyes. To this discovery succeeded some others equally mortifying. Though he had detected with a critical eye more than one failure of perfect symmetry of her form, he was forced to acknowledge her figure to be light and pleasing; and in spite of his asserting that her manners were not those of the fashionable world, he was caught by their easy playfulness."- Pride and Prejudice Vol.1: Chapter 6.

Mr. Darcy is truly such a disaster. He goes around boasting that Lizzy isn't pretty and then immediately starts thinking she is.

I blame this re-read on you, Mara. ;)

"I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look, or the words which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun."- Mr. Darcy, Pride and Prejudice Vol. 3: Chp. 18

EVERYONE talks about how the quote "You have bewitched me body and soul" from the movie is so swoony, and I fully agree. But the above quote gets me every single fricking time. Good lord. And it has not been represented in any adaptation I've seen which is an utter shame.

Merged this with an earlier, virtually identical topic so that we have the full 2011-2024 record located in one place

Yesterday, I had to dnf a book in a series that I've enjoyed. It just was NOT holding my attention and I'd forgotten who most of the characters were. I was a little sad because like I said, I enjoyed the previous books. I think I might try to return to it again sometime. I don't know when though. I imagine the forgetting things will just get worse as time passes. :S

Maybe you need to watch or read a recap of the series? Was there a big wait between when you read the last book and when this one was published?

That is actually a really good idea, I do not know why I didn't think of it myself LOL. There is probably a wiki entry for at least one of the books. According to goodreads, I read the Second Rebel (the previous book in the series) in 2022. That's really not that long ago, so that's kind of embarassing. LOL

I mean... I have vague memories but some of the details are kind of fuzzy.

okay okay okay, honesty time... the first book in the stormlight archive didn't blow me away. Did I enjoy it? Yes. But I think the same thing happened that happened with Gideon the Ninth.

I went in expecting it to shatter everything or rewrite everything I've ever known about fantasy because of how much people rave about this series.. It didn't do that at all.

Don't get me wrong, it was good! I had a good time! It was well written.... I just don't know if it's worth it reading 900+ pages every book for a series that I'm not fully invested in.

Am I curious about some things? Yes.

Do I feel like I NEED to have my questions answered? No.

idk. I was just looking at book #2 on my shelf and just tryin' to decide what I want to do. So lol i'm just talkin' to myself. as one does. lol

Haha that's fair. I've definitely had books where I went in expecting perfection based on hype and then was like "that was it?" Stormlight is A Lot all at once.

Yeah, The Stormlight Archive is a hell of a commitment...and the series isn't even finished yet. I keep meaning to read the next one, but the books are so damn long.

Did I dnf a book because of a sentence? Yes. Yes, I did! Well, okay there was something else that irritated me too, but I kept going back to the one sentence. Plus, I wasn't in the mood for what it was offering right now. But I might pick it up again later because it has Wren in the title LOL.

okay, storygraph rolled out a "cover wrap up" and HELLO!?!?! that is so cool.

It looks like it's only currently available for the app, and only by month, not yearly. I wonder if they'll roll out that feature too.
