Yeah, the second one is basically just a repeat of the first film, everyone says that, but in my opinion its still a better story.

Losing your kid at the airport, 'causing them to accidentally get on the wrong plane is far more plausible than just leaving the house with your kid in the attic.

And being lost in New York City and checking into a 5-star hotel is far more fun/terrifying/adventurous than just being alone at your house.

Yes, Tim Curry and the entire hotel staff made it all worth it for me. Sooooo ridiculously over-the-top. Just gold.

Saw The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies last night. Like the first two, I found it highly enjoyable. I can see where people are coming from when they say these movies are too long and didn't need to be 3, but I don't mind the length. I actually like the additional action stuff (though I think the chase scene between the Dwarves and Smaug in the second film should have been cut down).

The fight scenes in the film were fantastic (but, what else would one expect from Peter Jackson), and even contained some fun slapstick comedy moments.

The scene in the beginning with Smaug attacking Lake Town, and Bard attempting to shoot him down was one of the best-looking scenes I've ever seen on film (I kinda wish it had been a bit longer), and really got me pumped right away.

The best scenes though, in my opinion, were the scenes between Bilbo and Thorin. They were very emotionally effective, and I just loved Thorin's whole arc in this movie.

Spoiler

The acting all across the board was great - Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen (duh), Luke Evans, Lee Pace, Evangeline Lilly, even Orlando Bloom. And the other dwarves, Balin and Dwalin in particular, did a good job expressing their confused emotions.

And of course, I loved the tie-ins to The Lord of the Rings.
Spoiler

Now... The stuff I DIDN'T like:

The romance - This was something I didn't like in the second movie, and unfortunately it continues here. I really don't mind Tauriel as a character. She's a badass, and independent, and portrayed well by Evangeline Lilly. I would probably really like her if it wasn't for the romance thing. I guess they don't really focus on it that much in this... but it still feels dumb and unnecessary. It doesn't even really lead anywhere...

Spoiler

Alfrid - They should have just killed him off early on. I'll admit, he got a chuckle out of me the first time he appeared dressed as a woman, but for the most part I just found his antics rather tiresome, and they focused on him way too much, without any real payoff even. I feel like it might have been worth it if he actually DID grow a pair in the end... But no. He was just comic relief that wasn't funny or likeable.

I was also a bit disappointed they didn't include Bilbo's song from the book at the end ("The road goes ever on and on...")

Peter Jackson' Middle Earth, and Korra... both over now... :(

Saw Into the Woods the other day with my dad. I went to the play when I was a little kid, and it was pretty decent I guess...kinda felt the same way about the film. Amazing cinematography, though, and that duet with the princes had me in stitches. >.<

Really want to watch Agent Carter in a way that supports the show. Too bad it's not available for streaming. Gonna have to torrent it...

Just watched Fargo, the source of that infamous "foot in wood chipper" scene you may have seen elsewhere on the internet.

fargo-wood-chipper-scene.jpg

What an absolutely bizarre movie. I have no idea what to make of it. I spent the film hating most of the characters and the writing style, but at the same time I have to acknowledge its...weirdly unique tone? I've definitely never seen another movie like it. I'm still squirming inwardly because of how uncomfortable it made me. The film used simplicity and folksiness to create a nightmarish, deeply unsettling sort of atmosphere - I can't really describe it.

Hard to believe it got a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I just saw Maisie Williams' new movie, Cyber Bully. It's short, and takes place in just one room, with mostly just one character, but its creepy atmosphere kept me in suspense all throughout. It is a really good representation of how scary being stalked by an anonymous troll can be, as well as the tragic consequences of being bullied (whether in real life or online).
It really shows how careful you need to be when sharing personal info online.

I knew Maisie was a great actress, but she REALLY impressed me here. Her fear at being stalked by an anonymous creep, and her emotional reactions to what the stalker was showing her were pretty much on par with what I would have felt in her situation. I'm guessing she's been through her share of cyber-bullying in real life.

This movie gave me massive feels, lol...

My dad and I just watched The Book of Life, that Día de los Muertos movie that came out awhile back. The imagery was fantastic, there were some really charming moments, and a couple of the songs were quite touching. Plus I loved the design for La Muerta - she was just gorgeous.

look at her

Definitely worth a watch if you're an animation fan!

I thought pretty much the same thing until I noticed something.

After several years of watching, I finally finished all 7 seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space 9. What a bittersweet ending...I'm still choked up about it...

This past week, I finally started watching Invader Zim, and on Friday night, my friend Mmiriam got me to start watching Chuck. Both are very good, but not the type of show I could binge-watch.

Watched Over the Garden Wall

Do you like your cartoons with a side of trippin' balls? Then this is the show for you! It's simultaneously surreal, creepy, and charming, and it's only 10 episodes long (and each ep is only 11 minutes) - definitely worth taking the time to check out.

Just saw Avengers: Age of Ultron. All in all, I found it highly enjoyable, but it didn't blow me away.

The action, like in the first Avengers, was incredibly well done. I don't really think I need to say anything more about it.

I like that we got more character development for Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Hulk. I feel they needed it.

Ultron was a really enjoyable villain - Both funny and threatening at the same time.

Speaking of which, there were a LOT of funny lines in the movie. Pretty much all of the characters got at least one good one.

So, yeah... really enjoyable. I think my expectations may have been set a bit too high going in though.

I would say, if you like the first Avengers, you'll probably like this one. Just don't expect it to be miles better than the first one. I would say it was as good (maybe a little better).

A couple weeks ago, I saw Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. It was sooooooo HILARIOUS!!! Majorly epic win there! I saw the first one, but it hardly scratched the surface compared to the sequel!! Especially the fact that the main villain was allergic to oatmeal, and that he really broke out when an ointment containing it was rubbed on his face in a last-ditch effort for the heroes to escape his clutches!! loooooooool Totally worth the watch, and it kinda helps if you've already seen the first, then some of the things they say in it will more sense. haha

I saw avaenger 2 last weekend it was ok, the action was fun and I loved how the avengers worked together as a team. I also loved hawkeye and black widow in this and i really want to see a black widow origin movie or tv show, but I didn't like the villain ultron and I thought the new avengers (scarlet witch, quick silver and vision) ware really rushed out and needed more character development, also way too many one linear jokes. Overall its a fun theater ride but the first one was way better in my opinion. Low 7 out of 10
