Korra fanart is the reason I stopped going on Tumblr at work. At least until I figured out how to activate safe search. Then I didn't have that problem anymore.
I can't believe I JUST NOW realized there was a safe search option.
That would've come in handy a lot in the past. Using it now! Much thanks! lol

Watched Snowpiercer, a film set in a post-apocalyptic future where the Earth is frozen solid, and the only human survivors are trapped aboard a train that travels around the globe via a perpetual-motion engine. It's a bizarre, absurd, dystopian bloodbath with all sorts of mixed messages about class exploitation, population control, drug addiction, and the futility of existence.
Also, the film stars Captain America.
He dies.
The entire human race dies.

I have no idea what the point of the movie was.

I was recently rewatching (parts of...most of) Misery.
Its really the only movie that's ever made me truly afraid.
Other films, like Psycho, I've found creepy and unsettling, but never made me scared for the main character.
Even though I've seen it several times and know the ending, I can't watch it without having mini panic attacks, screaming to myself "She's insane, she's insane, holy shit, she's f*cking insane!" or "Hurry, hurry, hurry, she's coming, oh no!"
EVERY TIME.
I still love that movie, though. Awesome cautionary tale of when innocent fangirling goes bad. ![]()

I just saw Little Miss Sunshine.
And boy, does that movie make a lot more sense in context! ![]()
I'd seen select scenes here and there on TV, and listened to my mom attempt to explain certain funny parts, but it never made much sense to me. I'm kinda annoyed at her now for always saying "You gotta see this part!" when that's just not the proper way to watch it. (Not to mention TV probably cuts out a lot of the scenes and censors a ton of the language, so that loses the effect, too.)
But a friend recently strongly recommended it, so I downloaded it and promised him I'd set aside the time to watch it from beginning to end as soon as I could.
And yeah, its REALLY good. Every scene I thought was stupid when I saw a clip of it on TV was just great. Its got this weird combination of comedy and angst and adorable. Don't know how the crew pulled that off, but friggin' kudos.
Some (awesome) folks just get my favorite kind of movie. Probably because I recommended Her to him, and he loved it, so he thought he'd pay me back. ![]()

Went to see Maleficent tonight, actually enjoyed it quite a bit.
Jolie did a pretty awesome job as Maleficent. Elle Fanning was kind of annoying and the three faeries were annoying too, but thankfully they didn't show up much.

Just saw Guardians of the Galaxy with my cousin. I went in expecting to love it, and was not disappointed! it was a ton of fun! What I did not expect was how, honestly, kinda moving it could be at certain times. Hell, it opens up on such a scene...
For the most part the movie is wacky, fun action and humour, but it has its serious moments as well, and at one point I almost came close to tearing up. That doesn't happen often.
The action is great. The visuals are beautiful. And of course, the main characters are all so lovable. Rocket Raccoon and his tree sidekick Groot totally steal the movie. Those two were just great! I was also surprised by how much I loved Drax. I expected him to be just "the other guy no one remembers", but they made him very likable through his dialogue.
I liked the gradual progression these characters have from hating each other to becoming the best of friends. It made sense for all of them I felt.
Michael Rooker's Yondu was another character I really liked, though he wasn't one of the main cast. I really want to know more about him.
And of course, with songs like "Hooked on a Feeling" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" this movie has one of the best soundtracks ever.
That said, the villains, while menacing, are kinda one-note (particularly Ronan, despite a great performance from Lee Pace).
And honestly, if you've seen a lot of movies in general, you can probably predict everything that's gonna happen well ahead of time.
If want something that will challenge you, and tries to do a lot of new things, this movie's not for you.
If you just want to have a good time, I would say go see it, as it most certainly delivers on that score, and will also surprise you with some touching dramatic scenes too. If there's one thing this movie has in spades, it's heart.

I just saw The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, the last Robin Williams film since he died, as per a friend's recommendation.
I now know what he meant when he told me it was a very..."fitting" ending for Williams to go out on. It felt very morbidly surreal watching something like this so soon after his passing, given many of the themes and situations in the movie. As good as it was, I'm a little shaken up after the end. I mean...not to give too much of it away, but...damn.
Goddammit, why the hell did he have to recommend I watch something like this now?! I am going to kill him!

Watched the entire 1st season of "The 100" in a single sitting. It's one of those shows that's so damn close to being amazing, but is held back by a couple of obnoxious clichés (unnecessary love triangle, everyone being ridiculously attractive, black friend dies first). That said, the show inproves over time, and there are a couple of really amazing characters who keep you coming back for more. The main chick, Clarke, and her villain-edging-into-antihero rival Bellamy have a fantastic dynamic. They constantly bump heads as they jockey for power and rarely agree on the right course of action, but they come to respect and trust one another nonetheless. They're really only effective leaders when they work together; Bellamy understands group dynamics but is power hungry and quick to violence, whereas Clarke is diplomatic and precision-oriented with her violence but lacks Bellamy's ability to read a room. They both understand the suffering and sacrifice of leadership, and in my opinion (and that of most of the fandom actually), their interactions are waaaay more interesting than Clarke's romance with this other guy who already has a girlfriend. Yaaaawn. Either way, looking forward to what they do with season 2!

Just finished watching 9, that 3-D movie from 2009 that nobody went to see.

What a bizarre film. Inventive designs, the best post-apocalyptic visuals EVER, and some freaking awesome concepts. Unfortunately, the dialogue wasn't exactly stellar, and I feel like the film provided answers to the wrong set of questions. Robotic wars that annihilate humanity? Eh, we can kinda fill in the gaps - we've seen that story a hundred times. But like, machines powered by human souls? How does that work?
Also, kinda irritated that a cast of nine once again only had one female character. They tried to compensate by making her a badass, but that's really no excuse. It's weird, because this film took SO many risks visually speaking...you see bomb factories, barbed wire fences, chemical-f*cking-weapons going off and killing people, human corpses lying around (including CHILDREN!), incredibly disturbing killing machines...but more than one female character? Waaaay too risky, dude. If only the visual department had been in charge of writing the story, maybe the dialogue would've been less Hollywood-script-cliché. Overall, 9 felt confused with what kind of movie it wanted to be: intense, sci-fi horror, or family-friendly cartoon? While most scenes are suspenseful and compositionally disheartening, the writing failed to suit the movie's dark, frightening tone. Also, while I admire the attempt to end the film on an uncertain note, it unfortunately left the characters without a purpose.
Overall, I'd say this is the kind of movie you want to watch in a language you don't understand, so that you can make up the story as you go. It's bound to be more interesting that way.

I think I remember the posters for this making me interested in seeing it at the time. And your description of the rest of the visuals is sort of rekindling that interest now. Too bad the rest of the films doesn't fit the same tone.

Just finished Tombstone, starring everyone's favorite Wild West celebrities - Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp, and Wyatt Earp's mustache.

Ah man, what a great movie. Great atmosphere, memorable characters, and just the right amount of narm. Did I mention it's the source of the famous "nyooooh~" clip?
And Doc Holliday is totally on the list of my top 5 favorite Western characters. He spent the movie slowly dying of tuberculosis and was still the coolest, wittiest motherf*cker you ever did see.

Wyatt said it best: "Doc was a dentist whom necessity had made a gambler; a gentleman whom disease had made a frontier vagabond; a philosopher whom life had made a caustic wit; a long lean ash-blond fellow nearly dead with consumption, and at the same time the most skillful gambler and the nerviest, speediest, deadliest man with a gun that I ever knew."*

Just saw an episode of The Walking Dead -
meh. I'm not that impressed. I personally found the video game more exciting, but maybe that's just me.
