I'm almost positive that there's another topic just like this somewhere on the forums...I'll try to find it and merge them later, but in the meantime, I'd just like to say that I wouldn't have a job right now if not for JN. I only learned Photoshop and Opencanvas and graphic art in general because I wanted to illustrate TOSOT. And as it turns out, my hobby has proved far more useful than my actual degree

P.S. I still have the ticket stub from back when I saw the original movie in theaters when I was 9. I figured that since I wouldn't be on IDOJ if it weren't for that time, its something worth saving in my wallet.

Hey, congrats on all the positive feedback from the professionals! Even if your proposals haven't worked out, it sounds like you're well on your way to becoming a screenwriter. It's very exciting to hear from people and companies that you hold in high esteem that you've done quality work. I'm sure you'll make it if you keep putting forth the effort. Looking forward to some day seeing a new, original series with your name on it.

Welp. I updated the mainsite for the first time since 2019. I fixed the batch links for the icons and added a note about our 20th anniversary on the homepage. Everything else will remain broken for the time being.

I also love when a fic makes me smile. There have been several times I have laughed out loud!

 

Or when they give me warm fuzzies (often more romantic fics). 

 

I also love when I can tell that the author is invested in what they are doing. I really like goofy tropes. I pretend I don't, but I do.  

Well written with good grammar is one of my biggest things.
I also love fleshing out relationships, especially when it's done well, it makes me happy. I like ship fics but I love friendship a lot and it's hard to find a well written friendship fic, but when I do it's amazing. 💕

It's obvious that Cindy doesn't want to act like that with Jimmy, as she said in the N-Men episode. She acknowledges that he's a great guy and doesn't deserve to be treated like that. Thing is, kids at that age don't know how to express their feelings. At least for the most part. Notice the kids in movies and books and shows, and real life who pick on their crushes. I know I did.

Cindy is extremely competitive and prideful. She used to be top of the class till Jimmy knocked her down. Jimmy is arrogant, and at that age where girls must be treated like they have cooties. Naturally these two will butt heads. But when you fall for someone who you're supposed to hate, it complicates things. You deny it and try to keep things at status quo by upping the ante. Note how whenever Cindy and Jimmy start to go into gaga mode for each other, they snap out of it and end up making a rude remark. It's complicated. But eventually they get over it. In Stranded, the two managed to let their guard down and act on their feelings. They got along great.

Cindy is acting like anyone in her situation would. She's stubborn and confused. You're not supposed to fall for your rival. It also doesn't help that she's just a kid. She hasn't had the experience with these feelings like older people might. I honestly think that she might not be the easiest person to get along with on the surface, but she isn't mean spirited or violent either. She has a sweet side, but that isn't it. She's an 11 year old girl just discovering who she is. It's not like that will be who she is forever.

Besides, Jimmy fell for her regardless. If she was that horrible, that irredeemable, he wouldn't have gone near her. He loves that she can match him despite the gap between their IQ's. She's got passion, fire and keeps him on his toes. She knows when to deflate his ego, and raise his spirits when he's feeling down. It might not be the most conventional relationship, but they have time to work the kinks out.

I actually read it in a magazine which had a "kids" section in the middle and the double page was on that. I don't have it anymore or I'd scan it in for you. Dunno if it's online somewhere but I'll have a look. I think it was either "Bella: Mother and Child" or "From Pregnancy to leaving home." Not exactly the kind of magazine I expected to find that kind of thing in, but...

I think they got away with the Rob/Star stuff in the movie coz the series had made it obvious they had a thing going on and fans only wanted a rap-up of that. But BB/Rae wasn't nearly as easy to spot (as it's almost non-existent until the end of the last series) so it woulda been too much work to explain the suddeness of it. I kinda agree on the terms that it woulda been rubbish if it was OOC and almost forced. But I wished they'd at least hinted towards more BB/Rae coz then they coulda made a second movie and done it then instead.

That's why I love the fanfics based just after the movie. Although no one seems to wanna write a short series showing them slowly getting together (like I'd imagine it'd go). They all seem slightly rushed or something. I'd write them myself but I'm such a busy mum/lazy writer. Don't suppose you write stuff?
