I remember years back before we knew which character was going to die, someone said that it was okay with them if it was Nav as long as Mara gave him "one of those cool last words."

I can say without a doubt, despite his death being tragic, Mara did not disappoint with that request at all.

In TOSOT, Aurora mentions that she had fought mercenaries as part of the resistance movement and had executed them after they had been taken captive. Do the mercenaries she mentions fall under the control of Dictator Jimmy or do they act independently of him?

Both, I imagine. As April explains in 'A Lesson in Gorlock Table Manners':
The chaos wrought by his [DJ's] conquests has in turn allowed multitudes of opportunistic lowlifes and petty warlords to come out of the woodwork – instability and exploitation are rampant. The Galactic Police are completely overwhelmed and on the verge of becoming defunct.

It's basically like a giant free-for-all, with baddies running amok. DJ employs mercenaries for lulz, some of the other Samarkandi probably contract killers too, then there are petty criminals who serve slightly less petty criminals... The Resistance consider themselves to be "above the law", so they execute all sorts of people. Aurora probably didn't even know who she was killing half the time. She probably just told herself that they were all DJ's employees.

As I have said on numerous occasions, I HATE this question. I came up with Aurora's design before that Metroid installment came out...and yet EVERYONE comes up to me and is like "OMG Mara, did you copy Zero suit Samus??!1?"

Well, I don't know how many ACTUAL Ultralord products they have on that asteroid, but they do have customizable text...which is how they got the suit to say Ultralord. They could have made it say "shamalamadingdong" if they'd wanted to...

They do look similar insofar as they're both blonde girls wearing blue space suits. But I mean, there's only so many variations of hair and suit color you can have, you know? Some things are bound to intersect when there are billions of character designs out there. I should point out However, that their eye color, suit design (well, as much as form-fitting suits can HAVE a design), acompanying powers, and generalized statures etc. are different.

I guess my point is, they are similar, but they aren't IDENTICAL. Identical means exactly the same in every way. Maybe this is just the fanartists community doing their inevitable thing, but most images of samus I've seen tend to be a lot more sexualized than Aurora ever was. And actually, I think Samus' blue suit actually looks more like Libby's from N Men than it does Aurora's
Also, in most fandom circles, it's considered rude to point out when an OC looks "just like so-and-so!" because generally artists took a lot of time creating a design, only to be accused of copying because their character looks like some video game or anime char they've never heard of.

P.S. Also I could be wrong, but I think I remember Mara saying that she actually drew inspiration for Aurora's outfit from Cindy's KoM spacesuit. So yeah, blame the JN animators
