I'm just glad he got the antidote. I'm sympathetic for Aurora and Future Goddard: one's pretty dang wounded and one's made into the center of DJ's base. He(DJ) got what was coming to him, for SURE...

That was great! Short, but great! I loved the last bit with Aurora, and I'm glad DJ got the antidote. I can't wait to see Jimmy and Future Carl save Future Goddard.

This is my biggest lingering question. After all he's spent most of his life (and all of adult life) being a power-crazed tyrant who's tentacles of pain and suffering reach far across the galaxy, who's to say that his moral compass hasn't been damaged beyond repair? For all we know he could wake up, realize he's the ruler of numerous worlds, and continue on like the antidote never happened.

Pansy Jimmy or PJ, as I like to call the cured DJ, will still need the pink bathrobe to cover his girly bits.

For all we know he could wake up, realize he's the ruler of numerous worlds, and continue on like the antidote never happened.

This is the first thing that crossed my mind as soon as he breathed it in.

Anyways...

I've just realized that I've never ever commented on TOSOT, although I'm reading it almost religiously. That's quite unfair I think. So I hope, no one's minding me adding my two cents. :)

First of all I have to say that I liked this update a lot, despite its shortness. It didn't feel like there had to be added more for now (veeery unlike the cliffhanger of the last time).

I was really glad that Aurora didn't get to finish her sentence. As much as I'd loved to know what it was she was going to ask for, it...fit her better this way somehow. Sure, it was almost predictable that it wouldn't be revealed, but it was great how she changed from 'almost finished' to 'back in action' without losing face. That was actually my greatest fear concerning her when I read about that minor concession - that she'd lose face in front of DJ.

(But I laughed a little when I read that 'I want you to look behind you.' bit...cause when I imagined a crack ending to the last line of the last update it was exactly this - only that there'd been April (miraclously) with a huge nasty gun pointing at DJ's neck. Anyways, I was relieved she didn't just say 'Turn around.')

The antidote bit was fantastic. Straight to the point, without much of a fuss (which would've been a little unrealistic in my opinion) and....I really held my breath before I read about DJ's first reaction. It was especially awesome (I'm running out of positive adjectives to use without sounding like a sap) the way he tried to analyze the situation, first feeling so smug , realizing that he's still coughing and then Aurora's unmoved explanation. I just...liked how cornered they suddenly had him, without much of a melodram or a thousand things getting into the way.

'You miscalculated, Neutron.'

I loved that line. Cause it's somehow a little ironic and must've stung deep. Of all the people to miscalculate something...it's just a real good slap in the face.

and

End game, Neutron.

Epic beyond words.

But most of all I liked the quietness after the confrontation, it has such a beautiful pace. Sure, the little banter of the four children is hilarious, yet in my mind I could see the scene zooming in on Aurora lying on the ground, thinking about her achievement (smiling wistfully...) and the last bit of description just supported this feeling of...accomplishment.

Wonderful.

The only thing that irked me a little (no offense) was that new new ending, because the former one felt superior to me. It was much more subtle, yet pointed at the same outcome. Now it's too...round an ending for my taste. It doesn't touch me as much as the other one did.

Not to mention that what both endings imply (and I'm only speculating from now on!) seems a little too easy on Aurora. Because, if the antidote really works out and DJ is reverted to his former personality, the real challenges and questions will arise. I think by ending it at this point, you're saving her the greatest hardships.

Which is a little disappointing, because Aurora herself never thought further ahead than the defeat of her nemesis and it would've been particularly interesting to see how she'd struggle after serving her purpose. I'm not fishing for a happy ending, because how could there be one for them? But now she feels a little like a calculated plot device, she bloomed, she developed to her fullest extent and now she leaves the stage. Characters like her are used that way very often and it somehow cheats you out of depicting them as humans beings, not just actors in a play.

HOWEVER what the heck do I know? There's a multitude of possibilities for this update to continue and if by any chance I got the implication of the last sentence right, then I feel that's the best way to 'finish her off'. Quiet, calm and without any melodram.

Synopsis of all the above: I loved this and I love TOSOT.

(And I apologize for my clumsy articulation, I'm not good at expressing my thoughts accurately in English. I would've gone in there deeper, however the words escape me.)

P.S.

He no longer has an inexplicable fetish for pink bathrobes.

I died.

Fantastic comments! I really appreciate reading these, so thanks SO much!

it was great how she changed from 'almost finished' to 'back in action' without losing face. That was actually my greatest fear concerning her when I read about that minor concession - that she'd lose face in front of DJ.

Ya, and besides, it's much more fun to keep the audience guessing about what she would have said. ;) Oftentimes what is left unsaid is much more powerful than what is given voice.

Anyways, I was relieved she didn't just say 'Turn around.')

I had to connect it back to her earlier request for a concession. She brilliantly made it seem like that's what she had "wanted" all along. Oh, Aurora...

I just...liked how cornered they suddenly had him, without much of a melodram or a thousand things getting into the way.

That's how these sudden reversals of fortune happen in real life: suddenly.

I loved her line "end game".

I've been planning that line since like 2007. No joke.

The only thing that irked me a little (no offense) was that new new ending, because the former one felt superior to me. It was much more subtle, yet pointed at the same outcome. Now it's too...round an ending for my taste. It doesn't touch me as much as the other one did.

Meh, I was never a fan of the "clock striking twelve" thing either. Not nearly subtle enough. Anyway, I changed the ending YET AGAIN, this time to a compromise between the original and the second. Hopefully it's clear now without being blatant.

Not to mention that what both endings imply (and I'm only speculating from now on!) seems a little too easy on Aurora.

DO NOT DOUBT ME, YOUNG GRASSHOPPER ;)

Synopsis of all the above: I loved this and I love TOSOT.
