Like, I am sort of stupidly proud of myself.
Mostly though, this past year has really shown me how much books truly mean. They are like a warm blanket wrapping me in comfort and a familiar sense of home. I love the way they make my spine tingle or my heart flutter for just a few moments. Delicious and extravagant, even the ones that frustrate me.
I only hope that even if I don't make it to this number again next year that the trend of continuing to read consistently will stay.
It's also interesting how much reading has inspired me to write again. Like, I've written more in the past year than I had for a while.

I've had trouble just finishing one book this year ![]()

I couldn't agree with you more, Katie. I absoutely love books. I am a huge bookworm and could read all day if I really wanted to. I agree with everything you said above. Books mean so much to me. They are like another world that takes place from reality, which sometimes, I believe everyone needs a break from. I love the 'warm blanket wrapping you in comfort' line. I can really connect with that. They also make my spine tingle. Tingle with excitement and suspense whenever I want to see what happens next. Sometimes I need to force myself to stop reading so I don't finish the book too quickly. That is amazing that you read 400 books in one year. That's impressive. I don't know if I could read that many but that's amazing!
I will always and forever love books. I am a book worm and proud of it!

Thanks, friends. I've had a lot of time on my hands, and audiobooks are a big part of it. I can get through them pretty quickly.

So, this year has started off pretty well! I'm reading a lot of romance and apparently, that is a thing I really like now. I mean, this should not be a surprise considering the genre of fic that I write, but I honestly had started to believe all that garbage about it being inferior somehow.
It should be noted that it's not for everyone, but for me, it's like a freaking warm blanket of love.
Why did I wait so long?
Also, I'm trying so hard to keep up with my book planner, but I procrastinate and then I have to catch up. I need to get back into the habit of doing it every day!

My favorite book genre is murder mystery novels. Right now I am reading one called Murder At Spouter's Point.
Mary Higgins Clark is my favorite murder mystery novel but I read ones by other authors as well.
I am glad to know someone else who loves books as much as I do. Feel free to talk to me anytime about books, Katie.

What are some of your fave titles? I know you mentioned Mary Higgins Clark but she has such an extensive backlist I don't know where to start.

Here are the Mary Higgins Clark books I've read so far:
A Stranger is Watching
The Lottery Winner
A Cry in the Night
I've Got My Eye on You
You Don't Own Me
We'll Meet Again
Daddy's Little Girl
Pretend You Don't See Her
You Belong to Me
The non Mary Higgins Clark books I've read are:
The Sally Lockhart Triology by Philip Pullman
Hazards of the Game by Norma Tadlock Johnson
Buried in Beignets by J.R. Ripley
Birthdays Can Be Murder by Joyce Cato
Crybaby by Fay Cunningham
Then I have read all the books in the Flavia DeLuce series by Alan Bradley.
Those are all of the murder mystery novels I have read so far and I love all of them. For Christmas, I received a whole lot more of Mary Higgins Clark books. So I have plenty to keep me busy.
Some of my other favorite books are: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kid and Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.
I also love the Nancy Drew series.
So I have read a lot of mystery novels and will continue to read a lot more. Obviously, it's my favorite genre.
What's your favorite genre of books? And if you haven't read any of the above murder mystery novels, I recommend you should check them out sometime. Mary Higgins Clak will always be my favorite though. I have also read some by her daughter as well Mary Jane Clark called Do You Want to Know a Secret? Then I have read oned called A Little Yuletide Murder and it's based off the TV series Murder, She Wrote.
The one I am currently reading now like I said is called Murder At Spouter's Point by Leslie Wheeler.
Sorry this us so long but when it comes to books, I can go on and on. I am a major book worm.

That's awesome that you've read the Flavia DeLuce series, too! That was such a great series. I think I read each book twice. I would reread them, but I have so many other books to read.
I'm glad you created this topic and will probably post in here a lot.
I know all of those genres of books except for YA fantasy and Middle Grade.

Way to go, Mary! I read Cytonic at the end of last year. I have to admit that the ending left me a tiny bit disappointed, but overall I enjoyed it!Finished my first book of the year yesterday. Tim and I have been listening to Cytonic, the third book in the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson. It was really good! I'm looking forward to the last book, as well as the three novellas.

Middle grade = books intended for 8-13 year olds. Chapter books with complex plots and characters, all sorts of genres including fantasy, sci fi, historical fiction, realistic fiction, etc.
YA/Young Adult = books intended for 12-18 year olds. Same as above otherwise.
Both fall under the wider umbrella of children's literature, along with board books, picture books, beginning readers, and children's series (stuff like Magic Treehouse or Nancy Drew, which are very repetitive and teach kids how to read chapter books by providing a familiar set of characters and predictable plots)

Oh okay. Thanks for the explanation. I should have known that being a book lover but a lot is going on in my life right now to think clearly. And also, I love the Nancy Drew mystery series and used to love the Magic Tree House Series when I was younger.
By the way do any of you guys who love to read like books that were made into movies? I usually don't watch those because I always say the books are better than the movie in most parts. One of the only exceptions for me is the movie Matilda. I love both the movie and the book equally.

For me, it sort of depends on the movie/ book adaptation. Several of the Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice movies/ series have been extremely well done. The Hunger Games was quite faithful,
The only movie I think I've liked MORE than the book was Stardust. I just ... that movie is so good.
