Mara Wilson was the most perfectly cast character in this series.
Yeah, I love Baldwin and Dylan, but she's still the best one in my ears.

I actually hope they change Carlos's voice again. I want it to become a running gag...those damn throat spiders!

I love how they lampshaded it in Condos. I think that was my favorite part of the episode. Even more than the fact that Carlos was looking for a condo for both of them to share.
Also, I can't waaaaiiiiiittt for June 4th and the anniversary live show. I'm so excited ![]()

That would be friggin' hilarious!!! Cecil has such a powerful and beautiful voice, and Carlos'...keeps changing. I'd love it!
I don't think they will, though, considering they made such a huge deal about casting Dylan in the role. I think he's here to stay. ![]()
And I'm actually...not...crazy about that voice for Carlos. *loud screeching* I'm sorry, I'M SORRY!
Okay, I don't hate it.
And at least they worked in to canon that he purposely changed his voice (for very funny reasons), and not that its his natural voice. That helps, because it...just doesn't quite fit the image I always had of him.
Its cute. Its dorky and exciteful and sweet, which I suppose fits the character, but it sounds so friggin' young.
If I didn't already know that was Carlos, I'd swear it was a much younger character.
I could see that voice for one of the interns, or maybe assistant scientists (if any of them are supposed to be younger). Or even a younger Carlos (doesn't it sound a lot like 15-year-old Cecil from Cassette?). But for this Carlos...? Bizarre.
I'm getting used to it, and again, its adorable, I just sometimes wish it was a different voice that sounded as cute but closer to his likely age. ![]()
But again, the voice from "The Phone Call" did sound more like his current age, and the new one is just from his changing his vocal chords, which probably doesn't always produce the best, most congruous results, so I'll buy it. ![]()
I feel like its so taboo in this fandom for me to say anything bad about Dylan's casting, since everyone adores his voice, but its always made me tilt my head a bit. lol
I even had my mom listen to a few of his parts, and she understood exactly what I meant, even though she knows next to nothing about the show and characters.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about Carlos's new voice. I actually disliked it a lot at first (mostly because I liked the way he sounded in "The Phone Call" so much). It's not that Dylan's voice isn't adorable, but...it sounds too young and feminine for my image of Carlos, who always struck me as being mature and manly. You hit the nail on the head when you said it makes him sound like an intern, rather than a grown-ass scientist, lol
Dylan's voice is like - a skinny, nerdy teen don't hate me, fandom! It's just so HARD to get used to a new voice when it's such a radical departure from the original (especially when that original helped to inform your whole image of a character)
Every time I hear him I have to remind myself, "that's Carlos...not the president of a high school glee club...Carlos..."

YES, SOMEONE GETS IT!
Well, I disagree that I ever saw him as super manly or anything like that, lol. I pictured him as dorky and somewhat socially awkward, so the voice fits that part just fine. But yes, a lot more mature. That's a good word for it. He seemed more mature and professional and serious compared to the rest of the town.
But I guess you could say he was more like that in the first year he lived there. A lot more serious about sticking to his research and not getting too comfortable or friendly with anyone else, probably not expecting to live there for very long. He's changed a lot since then, after risking his life for the town, nearly dying, and entering into a pretty serious relationship with Cecil. He's become a lot more accustomed to Night Vale life than he was in the beginning, obviously, so maybe the new voice fits his new fun, laid-back, happier personality.
But it still sounds too damn young. ![]()
Every time I hear it I think "high school science nerd Carlos" instead our Carlos. lol

Yeah, I didn't mean manly like BUFF or athletic or anything. I meant manly as in adult, as opposed to boyish. Like, someone who's gotten a PhD in *science* and is graying ever so slightly around the temples. It's just...weird to hear someone so young-sounding dating Cecil. Especially since Cecil has such a seasoned, powerfully motivating voice with so much tonal and emotional range.

Yes, exactly. That's what I meant, too.
Older, professional, and experienced. Both his physical description and personal attitude made him sound like someone in his mid or late thirties, maybe early fourties? Cecil sort of sounds about that age, too, so that's about where I headcanon them.
That voice of his is the only thing that ruins that mental image. lol
But he's always seemed socially awkward, even before hearing the new voice. Like someone who never dated much in the past or ever had a knack for personal relationships. (This is the same dork who said, "I've been thinking...yeah, that's what I've been doing lately. Thinking. Its part of being a scientist. What have you been up to?" on their first date. LMAO)

Still one of my favorite moments.
The fact that he always felt the need to preface each phone call with, "I'm not calling for personal reasons" prior to their relationship is both funny and kind of sad.

Actually, it strikes me as kind of prudent. If he had been tuning into the radio at ALL, he no doubt heard Cecil talking about "beautiful, perfect Carlos". He had to have been at least vaguely aware of Cecil's crush. Maybe he didn't want to give Cecil (or himself) the wrong idea? Just a theory...
No, I completely understand why it was probably neccessary back then as not to give Cecil unfair expectations while just conversing "for professional reasons." It just always makes me feel a little sad for poor Cecil to constantly be reminded that his not-so-secret crush wasn't calling for the reasons he dreamed. lol
I like some people's speculations that Carlos never listened to the radio much, if ever, prior to their relationship, and therefore was completely unaware of Cecil's very strong feelings for him, even though the rest of the town knew quite well. lol We don't know for sure. Not very likely, but the idea amuses me.

I don't have any particularly strong feelings either way about Carlos' voice. His first voice sounded a little more similar to how Cecil described his voice, but the second one I think fits his personality more.
I don't think it sounds too young or any of that, though.

Yeah, it fits the silly lines he's saying, I honestly think its just the age. The first time I heard it (in the beginning of "The Woman From Italy") I thought I was listening to a high schooler. *sigh*
Its not like we hear it that often, and I'm getting used to it. You have to with this show. ![]()
