Aaaggghhh, what kind should I get? I can't decide D: D: D: The Desert Bluffs mix actually sounds really good, but buying that would be blasphemous! I can't support Desert Bluffs!

Where is the link? I looked through Adagio and I don't remember seeing any Night Vale teas that had Desert Bluffs blends.

I'M NOT EVEN A CAT PERSON, AND THAT EPISODE MESSED ME UP SO BAD!
I think it might have messed ALL of us up really bad.
Its amazing after everything Strex has done and threatened to do, this is what's made the whole fandom basically explode, screaming, "GET 'EM OUT! I WANT 'EM OUT OF THIS TOWN NOW!"
Not that I blame them.

So last week, in my Painting Other Worlds class, I started a painting of The Man in the Tan Jacket and the Glow Cloud. And my professor took it this week as part of the crop of work he's going to have hung up in the Hauke building.
Night Vale will grace the walls of Champlain College.
It's destiny.
Also, I'm listening to episode 28 right now. The weather was really good.

That is so cool! I'm sure they'll fit in lovely!
And, right?! That's one of my favorite weathers! Thank you!

^I personally think Kevin was talking about his perceived-to-be-inferior mirror self (Cecil), rather than Carlos...I'm not sure if the rest of Night Vale and/or the members of the surrounding townships have gotten to know Carlos well enough to notice his imperfectness (of course, that means we have to take Cecil at his word when he said that all of Night Vale was enthralled by Carlos from the moment he arrived. Since Cecil is an unreliable narrator, this could've just been a projection on his part).
Alternatively, you could interpret this as a Desert Bluffs/Night Vale thing. I think it's safe to say that Desert Bluffs (and by extension, Strex) views Night Vale as its sort of imperfect double (and vice versa). Since Strex in particular possesses an expansionist mentality, you could easily make the argument that Kevin was talking about Strex taking over and destroying Night Vale.
Of course, this is all just speculation...

(On another note, I think Strex's conquest-oriented mindset is really central to this whole conflict. One of the reasons why Night Vale is more easily perceived as "the good guy" despite having its own oppressive governmental bodies and disturbing supernatural phenomena is that Night Vale's madness is pretty self-contained. You never get the sense that Night Vale is out to foist its policies and beliefs on the rest of the world. It just is. Strex, on the other hand, is out to get everyone, it seems...I think that's why the fandom hates them so much, despite the fact that Night Vale contains all sorts of native ominous entities and organizations that are, let's be honest, just as freaky to an outside observer as Strex.)

Yeah, Night Vale's policies are a slightly watered down kind of scary compared to Strex. Night Vale was pretty comfortable with the way it was, since its all they'd ever known, even if it is horrifyingly invasive and controlling, but no one is comfortable with the new measures Strex has taken.
I also love the difference between Night Vale and Strex in that Night Vale seems terrifying and evil at first glance, but when you read between the lines you can see that it has its own strange kind of beauty and innocence. Whereas with Strex its the other way around - they may seem friendly and cheery on the outside, but deep down its something far more sinister.
With the exception of Cecil and Carlos's developing relationship, and other little things like the mayoral election, this whole Strex takeover and (hopefully) rebellion is the first major ongoing plot the show has had. I'm already wondering what kind of story arc they'll do once its over (though I'm sure this is only the beginning).

I mean, yeah...the way I see it, if Night Vale produced someone like Cecil, who's capable of love, empathy, humor, righteous anger, giddy excitement, and so forth, there's no way it could be that bad. I've never actually been afraid of Cecil (creeped out a little, maybe, but not frightened). He seems like a genuinely decent chap when you peel back all the layers of Night Vale crazy. The omnipresent danger of his hometown notwithstanding, I'd totally hang out with him.
Kevin, on the other hand? I'd be terrified to be in the same room with him. He's just got such a Stepford Smiler vibe, and if he's representative of Desert Bluffs as a whole, then...Yikes.

Cecil has a dark edge to him, mostly due to the environment he grew up in (I mean how could you not turn out like that?), but he's still super lovable and kind. Certainly the kind of person anyone would be lucky to meet and have as a friend (once you get past all the weirdness...).
I used to only view Kevin as completely terrifying, borderline evil, but now I'm starting to like this idea that he's just an innocent victim just like Cecil is. Maybe he used to be a lot like Cecil, strong and kind and with his own independent opinions and values, before Strex took over Desert Bluffs. And they either didn't fight back or fought back and...failed. And ever since then he's become a mindless, Strex-worshipping sheep, who's genuinely terrified of them so he does whatever they say. I think both interpretations are fair. Some fans think its cruel to view him as scary, but regardless of what happened to him, he is...scary.

As far as Kevin's true nature is concerned, I was in the "innocent victim of his circumstances" camp until the most recent episode. His cameo in Visitor had an actively malevolent air, wouldn't you agree? I'm having a hard time viewing him as a mindless drone now. But who knows? Our knowledge of him as a character is very limited, so it's hard to say what he'll do in the future. I mean, look at what an asshole the Apache tracker was - who would've predicted he'd be the one to save Carlos in the first season finale?
Basically what I'm saying is...I LOVE THIS FREAKING PODCAST AND CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE *spaz attack*

Yeah, we haven't really gotten to know Kevin well enough yet, so I think it could go either way, or be a little bit of both. Cecil's description of him in "The Sandstorm" seemed pretty friggin' scary. And yeah, Cecil may be known to exaggerate, but not outright lie. And he's also usually very trusting of people, so I'm gonna trust him on this one - there's just something...off about his double, to say the least.
And we now have a date for the election! Isn't that the anniversary of "One Year Later?" Or..."Two Years Later" now, as I've been calling it for awhile. I kinda thought they'd do something...different for that special, but I'm still excited for the election.
