I’ve been watching Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. I’m currently 10 episodes in.

So far, I would say it’s good. I think it has a really great premise, and the emotional scenes are very effective.

That said, I don’t feel like I really get what the massive hype around it is all about. I started it, because everyone kept talking about it as the new great anime, and it seemed to be near the top of a lot of lists, and I’m not really seeing why…

I do like it though. There’s something oddly… calming about it, and as I said, the idea behind it is really good.

NGL, I totally see the hype. I'm about 12 episodes in, and I find the subtle way it deals with grief to be quite moving. The fact that everything is understated creates a wistful, poignant mood that sticks with you long after you stop watching. It really resonates with my life experience in a way I can't quite explain.

I can definitely see that. I do find the scenes dealing with Frieren's grief and regret effective. They're definitely my favourite parts of the show. I can see how it could really strike a chord with some people.

I am definitely liking it even if it doesn't quite resonate with me like it does other people, so I am interested to see where it goes. (Also, I'm really enjoying Stark's character, lol).

EDIT: I used "definitely" three times here. >.<

Ooh, you got any reccos?

One I've been loving is The Girl I Like Forgot her Glasses. It's a cute little juvenile one, and it's adorable to me. I've been thinking about reading some with older characters but I usually drift towards those with middle/high aged characters since they're around my age range. My favorite right now other than the one I just mentioned is Love is War, but I think I like that more for the comedy than the romance. (for a slight anti rec lol, I've also been reading Nisekoi and it's so un-interestingly interesting)

I will try checking these out. I searched a bit of Nisekoi and found the art style really cute <3

OK, I just finished Frieren, and I have to say, it definitely grew on me as it went along. It's honestly kind of difficult to explain. Even though it deals heavily with things like grief and regret, it handles them in a way that is both effective and (at least, for me) oddly calming. It's a difficult emotion to quantify.
The characters are also just really likeable, even a lot of the supporting characters who are only there for a couple episodes.

I didn't even officially started Dandadan and I'm already hyperfixiating over it damn. It's a very crazy show from what I've seen and I have a feeling this will be my top anime of all time

First of all, let me just say I should stop engaging with fandoms of the shows I love, especially when its popular 'cause they get so insufferable with all the discussions about shipping and being unable to respect opinions  :

Moving that out of the way, I started Spy x Family on Neflix today, and it's so good. I love the dynamic between Loid and Yor (I can take them both btw) Their fake marriage at the second episode is so iconic. Their real marriage in the future has to top that  :nosebleed:

I started it with the thought that it's gonna be Loid and Yor I'm gonna be obssessed with, but I also found Anya and Damian adorable. It's giving enimies to friends type of thing and I eat those dynamic all the time.

Will stick to this one first 'cause I see some major drama ensuing in Dandadan's fandom as well as Avatar with the rumored next (earth) avatar series leaks. Like both fandoms are insufferable today. I'm actually planning not to interact with them, like ever  :

OMG, I'm now hooked with Spy x Family. This will probably be one of my favorite anime/manga of all time. Sure, there might be others that are objectively better but idc, 'cause it has a lot of elements I'm into  <3

Oh yeah, I got into Spy x Family this year as well. I had heard good things about it, but I was surprised by just how much I enjoy it. I love the dynamic between that whole fake family. It's just so funny and heartwarming. It's one of those shows that just makes you feel good.

Same, I watched it for comfort and was surprised by how I enjoyed it so much with the action, espionage, and fake family dynamic they have going on. I started taking it more seriously after the camping episode with Damian. I was like, damn, this is not gonna be a surface level series I thought it would be. I love it!

I'm into the aesthetics, plot, and romance tension it has with Yor/Loid and Anya/Damian. This is gonna be a show I won't shut up about for sure HAHA

It feels like a cultural counterpart of ATLA with the western culture influences it has despite being a Japanese animation (much like how ATLA takes on eastern culture despite being a western show)

I liked the show! I started to read the series too! It is a lot of fun!

Agreed, it's one of those shows you watch when you feel stressed in life or the other traumatic shows you watch :D Though, I know Anya's backstory is gonna hurt really bad

By the way, what is everyone's opinion on the whole sub vs dub debate?
Personally, I always watch dub if I have a choice. No disrespect to the Japanese voice actors - I'm sure they're fantastic - but voice acting in languages I don't know does nothing for me, no matter how good it is. There's just a fundamental disconnect for me between hearing the performance and having to read what they're saying. I get much more out of performances in a language I understand, whether they're as good as the originals or not.

(Also, call me lazy, but I don't want to have to read the whole time I'm watching something. >.< )

I always watched them based on their original language, just to have the authentic feel of the characters' speaking their native/original language (like Japanese for animes and French for Miraculous) but overall I don't really have a strong opinions on anyone who prefers either dub or sub, 'cause I always feel like it's a very shallow thing to argue about : , but I sometimes see when the dub is really bad XD. Though, I often switch to English dub when I'm watching a series/film while doing something else, since I won't be able to look at subs haha

So I started MHA just recently 'cause the shipping wars on Twitter piqued my interest on it HAHAHA and I must say, it seems like it's gonna be a fire action show upon finishing the first season. I want to finish this first them move to Kuguya: Love is War and then JJK

Bakugo (he's so cute huhu) and Ochaco are my faves so far. I find All Might's fatherly relationship with Deku so heartwarming <3

Zukaang shippers will def act like BakuDeku shippers if Aang and Zuko were on similar ages in ATLA, I could feel it HAHA

I love Spy x Family! I watched the first season when it first came out and loved it, so I had to buy the manga for it, which is great as well. I need to get volume 12 since it was recently released. I also need to get around to watching the second season.     Honestly for me, most anime I watch subbed, but some I watch in dub, like Ouran High School Host Club or Saiki K. If the show is said to have a funny dub, I'll usually watch it in dub. MHA is one of those shows that I think about starting, but never do LOL. I'm too busy rewatching romances.... :wub2:

(also Love Is War mentioned; aka PEAK)

Ooh, I just bought Vol. 12 from our local bookstore the other day. I was planning to buy the fanbook but they don't have an English version yet. I'm probably just gonna order online.

Also, the designer chairs and one character they have going on for their covers are *chef's kiss* SxF is actually becoming a top anime of mine just by the classiness and as Master Henderson says it "ELEGANTO!" writing HAHA

Now that you said that about Love is War, I'm looking forward to watch it HAHAHA

I love MHA! It might be my second-favourite anime. Attack on Titan will probably always be my favourite, but when it comes to sheer hype, nothing tops MHA for me. Like, I don't know any other show that can make the simple act of punching someone in the face feel so emotional and epic. XD

I actually roleplayed as Bakugo during an IDOJoween! I think it was 2021...
