I tried to find if we already had this as a topic somewhere, and the closest I could notice was a topic about anime that other people may have not heard of...so...this is a topic for all anime, even the popular kind.

Anyhow, every since graduating my master's program and moving to Boston, I've been on a serious anime kick. I've also discovered that I adore anime romantic comedies, while I usually despise that entire genre in pretty much any other medium. I have yet to understand why, but maybe it's because anime is just awesome.

So! Here's a place we can discuss our favorite anime shows, recommendations, etc.

I'll start - my favorite anime is Kaichou wa Maid Sama (high school romantic comedy of pure genius). It's about a girl who is president of her student council at a mostly boy school, so she has to be super tough to stand up for herself. She does that quite well, but that also means hiding the fact that her part time job is working at a cosplay cafe as a maid-waitress. Naturally, the most popular guy at school finds out, and antics ensue.

Currently I'm watching Shugo Chara, and loving it as well. Though I'm disturbed that I'm rooting for the high schooler to hook up with the 6th grader. Curse you anime, what have you done to my social constructs?! (Truth be told, I'm multi-shipping in this anime, so I'm also rooting for a fellow 6th grader to end up with the 6th grader). Also, I love Su. She's one of the magical guardian characters that fly around the main girl. It's a "magical girl" animal with some really interesting characters. Thumbs up from me!

I've watched many other anime shows. Ones that stand out to me as favs:

Fun magicky ones like Shugo Chara and Cardcaptors, as well as more serious ones like InuYasha...

Romantic comedies like Maid Sama, Special A, ToraDora...

Hrm...I will add to the list later as I ponder. I've seen many more than those above, but those above are the ones I have enjoyed most.

Anyone else want to share?

I love Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist to death.

And I have read the first two volumes of the manga of Vampire Knight, but I haven't seen any of the anime yet. But if it's as awesome as the manga, I can't wait! Same goes for Black Butler. I've read through volume four, but have yet to watch any of it.

I've read some of volume 1 of Code Geass, but I haven't watched that either. I watched a few episodes of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. That was really funny, but it makes no sense whatsoever. If you watch it in the order it premiered in Japan, then don't even bother trying to pay attention to the story line. Because for some reason, Japanese stations aired it out of order. My sister said that if you watch it in the original Japanese order, then while you don't understand the plot of the show, you are able to get a better understanding of the underlying theme. I don't know though. I need to finish watching it.

And what language do you guys watch anime in? I always watch it in Japanese with English subtitles. I feel like the Japanese voice actors are just more talented, and seem to get the personality of the characters better. Especially in evil characters.

The only manga I've seen to an extent was the very first few Pokemon eps, when it was first starting out. That, and only one ep of One Piece, the one where some fat guy is bouncing on a giant bubble while surrounded by other giant bubbles floating around him. Other than that, I've never seen anime. I am into the book series called The Manga Guide to ...(whatever science it talks about, like Relativity, Molecular Biology, etc...). Look it up to get a better idea of what they're like. So far, I've read the Molecular Biology, Physics, and Relativity ones, but there are more out there, and I wanna read those so bad!!

I usually watch in Japanese, with English subtitles. The one exception was InuYasha, because when I first found it, I only could find the English dubbed version, so I watched like, 100 episodes that way before finding it subbed. But then I couldn't do the switchover, because I was way too used to the English voices.

(For Shugo Chara I'm NOT a Amuto shipper).

I am, lol. But I'm also a Tadamu shipper (I think that's how you'd say it? I'm terrible with shipping nicknames). Anyway. IkutoxAmu disturbs me to no end because of the age difference, and yet I adore it because it's got all the chemistry. But I also love TadasexAmu because that pairing is so darn precious, even if it's somewhat superficial...I really can't make up my mind between the two. I think in my head I've got it sorted as "Tadase for now, Ikuto for later" ;) . As Ikuto says, Amu needs to grow up first.

One Piece is my favorite anime...I tend to like action series with a lot of ass-kicking

Some of my other faves
(this list doesn't include anime movies):

Trigun (one of the few series I LOVE the English version for way better than the Japanese)
Fullmetal Panic
InuYasha
Death Note (like the manga better though)
Planetes
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Seirei no Moribito
Code Geass
Now and Then, Here and There
Black Lagoon
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (just for lulz)
Cowboy Bebop

I like how the Death Note manga and anime are almost exactly the same. The only differences I could find were one minor change to the very end, and that added scene on the roof with L and Light (followed by the feet thing).

I love Fullmetal Alchemist with a passion, and Ouran High School Host Club is another favorite of mine as it is hilarious.

I liked Shugo Chara as well and it used to be my favorite as well...until the last season...then it all went downhill for me there. Still like it, but not like I used to.

Another top favorite of mine is Romeo x Juliet. Possibly the best adaption of the play I've ever seen. And I can't forget Sailor Moon, the first and one of the best animes I ever saw :D

I doubt it, if it were a bet I would say it's just a cartoon or an american spin off of anime.
