I think I would be a J/C extremist if it wasn't for IDOJ. Thank heaven IDOJ showed up in my life when it did!!

That you know of. We don't see enough of her character to really get to know if that would be the way that she would act.

~Crys~

Lol. Betty could be a psychopath for all we know. Maybe she's the "quiet but deadly" type. At least that would make her more interesting.

@ Urvy: Um...I don't think the writers love pain, haha. It's not like they have Cindy beating Jimmy to a pulp all the time. She could, since she's a martial artist, but she doesn't. Doesn't that say something positive for her at all?

I'm really sorry you are so frustrated at the JC ship, but frankly you are acting disrespectful towards many IDOJers, Urvy. I'm bringing it up now so you don't have to get an official warning down the line. By saying someone wants Cindy to be with Jimmy means they love pain and domination, you're kind of accusing a giant portion of IDOJ of being scary masochistic crazy people. It's a theme I've noticed from you in many threads now, and I am sure it is not intentional. But your obsession with JB is reaching the level of fierceness that many JCers you seem to despise on the internet reach. Your essay topic was fairly well kept within the bounds of respect, but in other topics you have begun to stray too far into the realm of insults. Even your current avatar and the message under it is slightly terrifying. I know you clarify things with "non-IDOJers", but everything you post makes it sound like you think people who ship JC are in love with the notion of Jimmy being slave whipped and chained to dungeon walls his whole life. Just because you see Cindy as growing up to be cruel and malicious, doesn't mean we all do.

Just be careful. Your obsession with JB seems to just stem from how much you dislike JC. That doesn't really say much for JB, other than "It's better than Jimmy being with a masochist!" (in the version of Cindy you've decided on).

You can of course ship whatever you enjoy shipping, but like Laura said, maybe you should concentrate more on why you like JB rather than why you hate JC. That will also help you around the boards, to avoid being disrespectful.

Sorry that I hijacked this thread. I'm just trying to take care of some things before they go too far.

I'm talking with Urvy on FB at this time, and he says he feels as if you guys are "out to get him" on this particular topic. He feels as if he offended you with his posts here. Could you set him straight, please? I think he's a great guy, and he doesn't deserve to feel like an "outsider" just cuz he supports J/B, as he put it. I'd appreciate it! :)

...I had previously thought that the Urvy/Stacy ship in the IDOJ pairings thread was a femslash. In any case we now have... four regular males on our forum? Neat. More than I thought before.

Dude, Urvy is a totally awesome guy, and I love how caring he is towards everyone. That's why I posted that, because I was concerned others might take things he was saying the wrong way and I didn't want to see anyone hurt him.

Who is excluding him because he likes JB? No one is trying to make him feel like an outsider for that. Our whole community is about being accepting of everyone. I just think he needs to be careful about making sweeping proclamations about the evils of J/C because it might offend some of our other members. I have to look out for everyone, here.

People can be JB fans, JC fans, or whatever fans. That doesn't matter. What matters is just making sure feelings don't get hurt.

I'm sorry, Urvy, if you're feeling targeted, but your posts of late have been kind of scary. I'm completely cool with you disliking JC, and your opinions on how Cindy will turn out. That isn't the issue. The issue is that you need to be careful not to insinuate that JC fans are supporting abusive relationships. I'm really sorry that you've had bad experiences on other sites online, but you know IDOJ is a safe haven. You're always really good about pointing out that IDOJers are not the JCers you are talking about. But there comes a time when saying "Everyone who is a fan of _________ is totally crazy and unfair - except for you guys" just seems...I don't know. It doesn't stop the statement from sounding offensive.

I'm only wishing for your happiness. You seem so angry sometimes, and I wish there was a way you could enjoy life a bit more without concentrating on the negatives. I'm sorry if my responses upset you, because I don't want to make you upset. I just want to caution you so that you don't, and nobody else, ends up hurt.

I'm pretty easy going, so when you responded to my post about JB by telling me that the viewpoint I was taking was one of a masochist, I responded civilly and calmly. But I know others might not react that way. So I hope you don't take my posts as being mean to you, because I'm honestly trying to do the opposite. I'm trying to make sure no one else is ever mean to you about your views by helping you to see how you can word things in a less offensive way. This has nothing to do with what you ship. I'm probably the last person on the planet who would attack someone for what they enjoy shipping.

You're a wonderful IDOJer, Urvy. We need you on these boards. I only have to say these things because this is a role I've had to undertake to ensure drama stays at a minimum around here. Apparently I'm failing, because I seem to be causing more.

Very well said, Katie. Urvy, you are awesome and I totally respect your ship for J/B. You don't have to respect J/C or like it, but can you respect their fans? Like Katie said, some of the things you say about J/C fans can be alittle offensive.

I'm not trying to attack you Urvy.

I'm just saying that I don't know enough about Betty's character to really make an informed decision, and that Cindy may not be a raving psychopath that she's being made out to be.

After thinking it over, and a chat with Pedro on AIM via Adium, I've decided to talk this over.

I am sorry for being the one thing I truly hate, an extremist. I felt bad offending any J/C'er with my theories and my comment about J/C'ers being masochists and such. I felt like a jerk when said that, looking back now and such. And I understand Katie what you said, you didn't fail after all. Also, I realized that not every J/Cer, inside or outside of DA, would condole or support abusive relationships. I never attended to bash J/C, but to me, it's hard to express my views without criticizing it. So, my apoligies to all J/Cers here at IDOJ, I'm sorry for almost becoming one that I hate, an Extremist myself. I felt bad for saying that J/C would equal beatings and abuse.

And Laura, my bitterness towards J/C can be blamed to a poorly-written fanfic I read on DA. I believe it was called, "No Happy Ending". That fic (which is now lost due to the author either deactivating her DA account or putting it in storage) was about Jimmy being abused by Cindy after she bought him (let's say it was an alternate ending for "Birth of A Salesman.") That fic in turn caused me not to support J/C, as well as creating my theory. Not to mention, Cindy to me, can be a certain word I can't say (this is a family board, I can't say that word or else Mara would boot me out here forever.) That, and all those hardcore J/Cers outside of IDOJ (mostly on YouTube, and that anti-Betty Q site I found back in 2008.)

Once again, I would like all of you to forgive me, a small fish (well, one of four small fish) in a big pond of J/C for calling you guys masochists and I would like to say sorry to the writers (wherever you are, if you're reading this) of calling you masochists too. At first, I felt that i was being persecuted for my theories and beliefs, but Pedro told me that this site has been in worse situations than this (namely the whole Gwen affair and that trouble with an certain banned member who will remain nameless.) No matter what pairing we ship, I still believe we're a family here, safe from persecution and extremism.

(Oh and Katie, a masochist means one who loves pain, the correct term for one who loves to give pain is called a sadist.)

we forgive you Urvy(well at least i do). The main reason why I'm more open to j/b, and not a big j/c fan is that I don't believe any girl in the show is perfect for him but Cindy is the closest to that. I think the cjracter Sailor Mercury is perfect for jimmy. The jimmy/Saillor Merucry ship in my opinion is a mix ebtween j/c,j/b, and j/a. To be honest there's ships i hate too. I hate any incestual ship, but i don't hate any non-incestual ship in the jimmy neutron fandom.

Whoa, what's been going on here in one short day?

I've never been out to get you or change your preferences, Urvy, my point was merely that one needs to lighten up about pairings and their fandoms. 'Cause, you know, a shipping isn't all there is to a person's personality. It's just entertainment to most. And that's exactly what happens when you take shipping discussions too seriously: hurt feelings on your part. No one wants that.

I'm sorry you felt bad, but , heck, these people love ya, why would they suddenly hunt you down? They all told you a thousand of times you're part of the family. ;D

Now that all things are settled, let's get to the feature presentation then.

The reason why I like Jimmy/Betty is because it's a breath of fresh air as opposed to the always cliche "bully girl falls for smart genius" formula. I know Betty looks old-fashioned to some, but I like her and this pairing anyway. Plus since Cindy is a feisty, hotheaded, tomboyish, brutish figure, Betty is a sweet, caring, kind figure. As Laura and Crys stated, we don't know much about her due to her brief appearences.

Yeah, Betty is a fun one to imagine about. As I said, in well-written fanfiction, I could see myself enjoying a Jimmy/Betty pairing. She doesn't get enough screentime in the actual TV show for me to care that much about her and Jimmy, but I'm sure that if she was written in an interesting way in a fanfic, I could appreciate that pairing for that fanfic. I guess the cool thing about Betty is that there is a lot of opportunity with her to take her character and make it something great in your own fiction.

There's really nothing I blatantly hate about J/B, just the idea of the together seems off. It could work, I can see that. It just really isn't all that exciting in my opinion, there would be no effort (I use this word loosely for lack of a better) in making the relationship work, it would be gained to easy. Its not dramatic I guess enough for me. Things which are gained easily are valued less, same goes for love in my book.

I can see the appeal of J/B nice popular girl falls in love with nerd genius. Its a very nice concept. Though I will disagree with Urvy that neither pairing is free of cliches .
