Short kids tend to grow up that tall.
Ahahahahahahahahahahaha
...I beg to differ.

@Katie: I was always the short kid in class, and I never grew up tall either

I love how Aurora and (Future?) Jimmy both look like they're in such a good mood. Like she's got a gun in his face but they're both like

I actually sat down and READ the last installment in its entirety (which, believe it or not, I hadn't actually done), and I've decided to re-add back in something I had cut out. I can still do that, right? You guys are basically my TOSOT beta testers
Anyway, lifted straight out of my notebook, here is the section I'd like to put back in. I initially removed it when the chapter was ordered differently, and I thought it'd make the scenes drag on. But now I think it makes the April-leaving-thing a bit more well-rounded:
___
**Aurora runs a life signs scan on the retreating vessel, then shakes her head slowly**
AURORA: Scan says there are two life forms aboard, one Gorlock and one human. It's definitely being driven.
JIMMY: April?
**Resting her weight against the dashboard, Aurora hides her face by turning her head to the side**
AURORA: Yes, April.
CINDY: Yes, April, but who else? There was a human on board too!
AURORA: (still facing away) Well, if we rule out Neutron – by virtue of the fact that April would never let him on Nav's ship – there's only one person it could be: Carl.
CARL: I'm right here!
CINDY: (rolling her eyes) She means the other Carl, you twit.
SHEEN: I don't get it! Why is skinny Carl carpooling with April on her dead fiancé's spaceship?
JIMMY: Not the way I would have worded it, but that is an excellent question. Do you have any idea what's going on, Aurora? Would she take him away by force?
**Aurora injects a little too much indifference into her voice**
AURORA: It wouldn't surprise me if April resorted to a little .24 caliber motivation, if that's what you mean.
JIMMY: But why hightail it out of here the second we emerge from hyperspace? And why take Carl along, willing or not? It's so strange. All signs point to a planned escape, so she must have had a reason...
AURORA: Hold on. We're being hailed.
**She fiddles with the controls, and a holographic video screen pops up over the dashboard**
AURORA: It's a pre-recorded transmission. Playing file now.
**An image of April appears, grim-faced, from within the static of the recording. Poor lighting and low-tech video equipment obscure most of the Shahada's cockpit, but Future Carl's shirt appears as a white patch in the background**
APRIL: Aurora, I am sorry that you must find out this way, but I am leaving. I do not begrudge you the freedom to make your own choices, but I cannot continue with you down your current path. Please do not inconvenience yourself by searching for me; I will return home as soon as I take care of business elsewhere. As you may have deduced, Carl has elected to accompany me on the first leg of my journey, though he has rejected my offer to send a farewell message of his own.
**The static of the video makes it impossible to determine whether the Gorlock woman's next expression is a smile or a grimace**
APRIL: Perhaps this is my fault. Perhaps I should have guessed from the beginning that you and I would return to where we began. You cannot come between the pale, homely female and her mate, am I right? Forgive me. That was an unkind comment then, and it is an unkind one now.
**She lowers her head**
APRIL: For what it's worth, Aurora, I wish you happiness. It was never easy, surviving what we did, but I am glad we had ten years together. I will never regret our friendship. In that spirit, I hope you do not mind if I take full ownership of the Desperado once I return to Planet Gorlock, seeing as you now have the Half Life... but perhaps that is a request best left unsaid. One of many things best left unsaid. End transmission.
**The screen shrinks and blinks out, and there is a long, shocked pause. Jimmy is the first to find his words**
JIMMY: That's it? Ten years of friendship, and that's the end of it? An impersonal, one minute sound bite?
AURORA: Jimmy. Just let it go.
JIMMY: But don't you –
**She turns back to face him, visibly strained**
AURORA: I said, let it go.
**The barely-concealed heartbreak in Aurora's eyes is so jarring that the whole company falls silent. She takes a deep breath, then resumes her usual officious manner**
AURORA: Anyway, we're wasting time. Let's get this tele-party underway.
_____
So....adjust your canon to reflect this

Looooooooooool Mara where did this come from? (You explained that, yes, but still).
It came from the bowels of my notebook
I don't know if you guys have ever seen my notebooks, where I write the first drafts of 90% of my stories. I wish I had a camera handy to show you, because it's the kind of thing you'd see in a thriller movie - pages upon pages of unintelligible, half crossed-out scrawl, littered with drawings of eyeballs and Egyptian hieroglyphs. I have dozens of such notepads, some dating back to freshman year of high school, scattered all over my house.
It really is a sight to behold
