Okay, the two-parter was awesome and epic. I had only minor quibbles, so overall I'm really REALLY happy with how season 3 is beginning. Also...

That was a pretty awesome episode. Pinkie pie's Fluttershy costume was a great laugh. Although I thought the king was kinda. boring. He didn't do anything because of the force field. He just made things tense.

I dunno, I thought that the crystal ponies' fear of him made up for the lack of involvement in the episode. They were obviously terrified of Sombra, and he was shown to be very powerful and power-hungry in the ep. His magic even cancelled out Twilight's! The threat of him taking over the Crystal Empire was huge. The fate of all of Equestria and the Empire was in question. I felt like that threat added a huge element of suspense and fear to the episode, which was genuinely scarier to me than an actual battle.

I agree he was scarier than most but he is just a boring villain. (compared to discord or chrysalis) So, a scary villain but not an interesting one beyond that.

I'll agree with you on that, he's faceless in terms of character and personality. Chrysalis and Discord were only given two episodes and they were very interesting, engaging villains. Sombra was just a one-dimensional cloud of greed and ambition.

I'm still here! And so far I've adored Season 3. Magic Duel has probably been my favorite, even though I was never that obsessed with Trixie. It just has so many great nods to earlier episodes and I totally didn't guess the twist at the end. Surprise twists are my favorite, because generally I find a lot of things in MLP to be predictable. (Not that that's necessarily bad, I am of course a huge fan of this show, but it's fun when sometimes my predictions are completely off!) Today's episode was very cute, though super predictable. What I did NOT expect was

LUNA to show up! That was an awesome surprise. I hadn't watched any of the teasers for the episodes, so I had no idea she was going to be in it.

 

Also, Rarity was in top form in today's episode. That OUTFIT. Hahahahaha, too amazing.

I found it good that Twilight lost the first duel. A hero can not just simply win all the time. A hero needs to know how to accept defeat. There was a bunch of things I didnt guess. Some of the other episodes I was able to guess the plot by the opening credits.

Today's episode was hilarious, and totally makes up for this season's other Spike episode where he was scary-OOC. Spot on today, thankfully. I can't wait until it's on youtube so I can watch it again!

I agree, this was much better than the other spike episode. I also find it great that Tank is on screen again since his prievous episode.
