The planet is more like a coniferous (pine) forest here on Earth, and not like a jungle at all. All the plant life have extraordinarily long lifespans, which allows for bacteria decay and "recycling" by other plants. The only other form of life apart from the sirens and the sentient species were giant spiders, which mainly inhabited the cliffs and plains, and small domesticated mammals, and both have since died out. The sirens are the only complex animal life on the planet--if you could call them animals. I'm not quite sure what they'll end up being yet.So maybe the creature they hear somehow got there from another planet? Or maybe it's the monkey from Planet Sheen, lol. I really don't know where you want this to go, and you obviously have a direction in mind for it, so why don't you go ahead and double post so I can get a feel for your idea? It's better than me taking it in one direction and then you negating everything to take it back to your ideas.
