Same here. And I seriously envy how Betty can keep her cool around the guy she likes. And full out kiss him! --mumbles-- Wish I could do that.....
I act like a complete fool when I'm around men I like

Just a discussion topic for Betty as a character, her non-romantic relationships to the others in the show, & maybe a little about the pairings. ^^

I really don't see why people can think that stuff about her. I mean, I can, but the SOLE reason people seem to think that way is because she's JUST in the way of Jimmy & Cindy becoming a couple.
But I mean, what if she weren't Jimmy's main open love interest in the show, apart from Cindy? What if Betty had a role in the show story that was very different from the current one, & she & Jimmy were merely friends?
Now, I'm speaking in terms of where Betty would have the same personality as the one she showed in "Party at Neutron's", & in "Out, Darn Spotlight!".
If this had been the position-type Betty was in, how would you probably feel about her then, depending on the role she would've been given?
This is what I mean when I say "only a little bit about the pairings". I don't see ANYTHING wrong with Betty as a character by herself. She's shown NO signs of being a snob like people make her out to be, with the ONLY exception being just two little quotes in Vanishing Act, just TWO! So apart from her being the school beauty for the show, (well, where one would instantly get that first impression) I just can't see why people think that of her when they take out the whole thing with Jimmy, & obviously Cindy. -_-

She's fine and all for a background character and secret first crush, but I don't like fanfiction having to do with her or anything around there. She's just one of those characters I think that were created to show Cindy jealous and to get Jimmy to notice that Cindy doesn't really hate him. Thats my take on why she was created.

I have a feeling that while she would occasionally be annoyed, she would put up with Sheen a lot easier than say Cindy did in the first seasons, should she & Jimmy EVER become something more.
& uh, excuse me, but I honestly think those were her BEST episodes, & you really couldn't find a nicer girl in the series. Sure, she's pretty & obviously the most popular school girl, but I rarely see her ACT like it. I mean, you might, but I never heard even an INCH of snobby-ness in either of those episodes.
Yes, she may have won the Lady McBeth role for beauty-voice reasons, rather than talent (which she also has), but I really never heard OR saw snob-like behavior from the girl herself.
& besides, while this may/probably has gone away by now, who's to say Betty didn't have her own little crush on Jimmy in at least Party at Neutron's? Sure, it might not have been HUGE like Jimmy's seemed to be, but to the fan who's willing to look past the J/C & at other potential pairings, one could think so.
Now, I'm well aware J/B has a slim to none chance of happening right now, but I'm still hopeful, & I just can ONLY think of Betty as a normally sweet, easy-going, and LIKEABLE girl, who would -& has- get annoyed with Cindy and Sheen on occasion, but otherwise seems to get along with Jimmy's group fairly well. I think the real reason she seemed to act "err, okaay.." in Vanishing Act was because she didn't KNOW Jimmy's friends that well, not personally like he does with them.
& uh, for formal namesake: I use "Bethany" when a formal name is needed. It fits too, & its not as commonly used in shows. XD
& yeah, I guessed that. This is one thing I can, but also can't really understand here. I can't really say how I feel about Cindy. Because by herself: she's pretty darn cool. With Jimmy: I think I'll pass.
I'm just not into love/hate pairings at all, & I believe Cindy-J/C is at fault for this. I've gotten to a point in my disliking of J/C that whenever I find a love/hate pairing, especially when its instense enough, I'm reminded of J/C's ordeal, making it almost impossible for me to enjoy it, unless I just like the idea otherwise.
But back on topic here: I just really can't see Betty any other way than I always have: sweet, understanding, supportive (reference ODS & VA, latter right before the chat), caring, & just over all likeable & enjoyable to watch. ^_^
Plus, there IS April the Gorlock for Cindy to be jealous of, especially when the girl seems to invoke some of Cindy's personality traits as well, & the fact Jimmy's always seemed to admire aliens too. XD
EDIT: Well Sabbie, (can I call you that?) she IS my favorite female character alongside Libby Folfax, & my overall second favorite, Jimmy being my first. Plus there's the factor I fully support the Jimmy/Betty pairing, despite its pretty low chances of happening.

"How was she nice in Party at Neutron's and Out, Darn Spotlight!"? Um, well, if you actually bothered to watch any of the parts where she had lines, she said things in a nice, supportive manner and was kind to Jimmy. She was a great person to him, unlike *cough*Cindy*cough*. (: And duh. They gave her the role of Lady MacBeth because she's a GOOD actress, and she delivers the passion that the role requires. ;] It's pretty biased to say that a person gets the role of a character because they're similar to them. My friend, Tahira, gets ALL the roles of the evil, mean, bossy characters, but she's the sweetest person in real life.
Hmmm. I wonder!
How would you know what type of girl Jimmy would like? Are you him? And au contraire, in Party at Neutrons he had a vivid daydream of the classical "frolicking through the flowers" moment with Betty. Being honest, yes, Jimmy has "just a crush" on Betty right now, but the same applies to Cindy. They're in fifth grade... it's kind of hard to experience true love at that age. So for now I'm assuming Cindy's just a crush, as well.
Uh. This is where you're definitely in the wrong. Just because Betty Quinlan acts like a normal human being for the first time in the show doesn't give you a right to pick on that as her ultimate "terrible" flaw. Cindy acts like a jerk A LOT OF THE TIME, regardless of who she's talking to. It doesn't make a difference if they're "just friends." Actually, that would give Cindy a reason to treat Sheen BETTER, but she doesn't. Plus Sheen and Cindy don't consider one another friends, anyway. It's not right to assume that they're friends just because Libby has a thing for him.
And there you have it... my longrantopinion... thing. D:
Edit: WOW, good points, Stacy! YOU USED THE NAME I INVENTED FOR HER. < 333 XDD Yaaay!
Bethany Ann Quinlan. It's beautiful and suiting. : D

In Vanishing Act, some fans think Betty was OOC because she was a bit iffy to Sheen and Cindy. I don't agree with that. No, it's not that I hate her. I honestly think it was shown so people would stop thinking she was sweet and nice all the time.
Think about it. Could anyone be pleasant all the time? Could you act gentle and kind even if it kills you? I think it shows Betty is human and has emotions.
@Krista: Now my brain hurts. How could both quotes be correct?
EDIT: Okay, the one about him liking J/B better was awhile back. Now that makes more sense.
EDIT 2: Crap, you said the same thing as I did in that post. My bad...
EDIT 3: I always thought of her real name as Elizabeth Quinlan.

I don't know if you've ever been over to Character Profiles, but both me and Darklord did profiles for Betty Quinlan.
-We weren't sure if we should though.
-Darklord had said that you're certainly the expert here on IDOJ when it comes to Betty Quinlan. I got the impression you had your own Profiel too, but somehow it never got posted.
We'd love to see it, if there were such an animal.
Just saying!

I kinda see her the same way I see Starling from Storm Hawks (*shot*).
Basically, Betty is pretty cool. She's overall sweet and nice and caring, and I kinda like that about her.
But, I will honestly say I hate J/B with burning passion. (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take no offence to this!) And, that's what kinda of upsets me. Betty's just in the show to play the love intrest for a short while. I kinda wish we could know about her personality more...

I like the sound of both well, but I prefer the ending of yours to Darklord's (no offense to him though, of course ^^; ), but I'll try to write my own edition, it'll just take some -yet more- time to do so, with some things in mind:
-Even though I'm on my last 9 weeks of school, I do need to catch up on some before we start learning about the next program [Frontpage].
-I've unfortuntely moved onto a different fandom [that being Hamtaro], & supporting a separate pairing moreso than J/B [this being Dexter/Pashmina].
Now these shouldn't affect my BEING ABLE TO write this bio, but they will naturally slow things down a bit more. D+P & Hamtaro are also the main reasons I've been so absent from the board.
I am NOT making any promises whatsoever, but I hope to give it a try on Sunday, if I can have enough time to myself on the computer watching Betty's four major episodes. This is in fact, what I did with my original edition. (what happened to it? I forgot to save it to my computer, & apparently I sent it before Mara's e-mail problem awhile back, unfortuntely.)
But I will probably do one though, it'll just take some time due to school & my other, more favorable fandom.
Why more favorable? Because while finding a bunch of Dexter+Pashmina fans in the same place is like finding a tiny needle in a giant haystack, I've managed that feat, in the form of one of the few active Hamtaro boards there are. But its invite-only, so no links, I'm afraid to say.
& well.. you can guess the ratio of J/C fans to J/B fans-multishippers that include J/B on here. Its definitely not that I don't like this place anymore (why would I even bother to come back if it was?), I'm just more interested in chatting about D+P & the like, rather than at times fiercly discussing the Cindy, Jimmy, & Betty love triangle with the many J/C fans here. I mean, I'm seriously outnumbered, after all! :ph43r:

"I think she is basically nice, but she uses people (especially Jimmy) to get what she wants. Which, now that I think about it - is NOT very nice."
He said that one time but according to Krista:
"...he preferred JB to JC awhile back, just because Betty was so nice and supportive of him, and Cindy was always at his throat."
I wasn't sure about that.

I have to say, though, "Vanishing Act" gave her another, more realistic dimension. Thank goodness, she wasn't "Miss Perfect" the whole time!!! I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, and say that she MIGHT be a bit manipulative and MIGHT enjoy all the attention she gets a bit too much...but nobody's perfect. ;) I don't think she's the one for Jimmy, but I think she could be a nice character...if only we could know more about her!!
So, no, I don't love her, but I don't necessarily hate her. Actually, with all the ranting about J/C vs. J/B and the love triangle, I've found her to be pretty interesting as a character. I'm writing a fic with her now, in fact, and my hope is that, even though it's not a J/B fic, it'll be one that actually doesn't treat Betty with dirt (except for the times Cindy decides to use her venom...I can't keep her from doing that :P). It'll show her flaws, too, but that'll make her more realistic. And, frankly, I think Cindy will look worse. So, yeah. Really hope I present her well in it...
Whoops, got kinda off-topic there. But, anyway, that's my two cents.

Yes, because Stacy told me that he actually liked JB over JC at one point, if I'm correct? Didn't you say that, Stace? You weren't sure about it? Are you saying that I'm bluffing about it? o_0;;;I'm talking about Keith.
