I just read the most amazing book. For any of you who like tragic stories/stories with bittersweet endings, this is for you. The prose is so poetic and melancholy in its beauty that it's hard to describe.
The name of the book is "Emmanual Appadocca, or Blighted Life: A Tale of the Boucaneers" and it recounts the story of a singularly gifted young man who abandons his call to greatness when he comes face to face with the cruelty of mankind and the hypocrisy of society. Cynical, cold, and determined to renounce the world, he gathers together a crew of similar individuals and roams the Caribbean Isles in the Black Schooner, committing acts of piracy justified by his own coldly logical worldview.
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who hates the sort of flowery, old-school style of prose, since the book was written in the 1800's. So expect the occasional "thou" and "knowest" as well as words you've probably never seen before (don't worry, most versions of the book come with footnotes explaining them all).
So ya, if you can spare a moment from homework to do...well, more homework  ...check out this book.
