Wow, that's the same case with me, too, and I do something similar with my passwords for some sites... JN is a fairly big chunk of my livelihood; has been for several years now... I absolutely adore it!

I wish there was an easy way to could export all of the forum data so I'd have a copy of it somewhere. I live in perpetual fear that the lights will go out someday (metaphorically), and almost 20 years of posts will vanish in an instant. Alex is responsible the site-hosting side of things, which means I don't have to pay anything (yay), but it also means he has all the back-ups, not me. Realistically we should've upgraded from IP.Board 3.4.9 to 4.x ages ago, but like...I don't want to dump a giant pile of work on Alex out of the blue. But I also can't do it myself...

I feel sad everytime I remember some the mid-aughts forums of my favorite cartoons that had shut down because of low activity (AvatarSpirit) and deliberate deletion (Luke's All Grown Up fansite). AvatarSpirit(.)net still has a lot of data stored in Internet Archive though, maybe we could do the same here just in case, but still not guarantee as I heard there' are talks on potentially shutting down that site too 

 

I'm happy that you guys still chose to keep this site open despite some circumstances. I hope you guys can keep this for as long as it can

Hey guys, just wanted to update you on some conversations that have been happening behind the scenes.

Alex and I are going to meet next week to discuss moving the entire forum from I.P.Board over to Simple Machines Forum, a free and open-source option that has a classic vibe with modern tools. This is a major change that will alter the appearance of the forums, but it will make the boards easier to manage/moderate and way less susceptible to hacking. I will try to find a dark blue theme that mimics the overall vibe of our current iteration without being an exact match.

 

IDOJ is 19 years old at this point and in desperate need of a new coat of polish. Alex and I decided a long time ago to keep the mainsite as like...some kind of weird time capsule, but the forums are a living, breathing place with active members, and they need to be maintained.
