More on "Who Framed Jimmy Neutron". Remember when the boys were chained together making their escape and a bear started chasing them around? That was a tip of the hat to the old "Benny Hill Show". Benny always had these wacky silent film shorts in the show that always ended up in chases like that It was the exact same thing in WFJN. They even used the same accelerated motion that they used on Benny Hill and accompanied it with the same wacky saxophone music that they used on Benny Hill. And remember when that butler showed up for no apparent reason and gave Carl some ice cream? Carl responded by patting him on his bald head. Benny Hill had a little old bald-headed sidekick (I think his name was Jackie Wright.) that he was always patting on the head like that with an exaggerated slapping sound effect added. The only thing missing were the scantily clad women that were always on Benny Hill. B)

I think I mentioned this in another topic. In "Win, Lose and Kaboom", the cute little creature guarding the cave with the mushrooms is an obvious reference to the "killer rabbit" scene from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". Too bad Sheen didn't have the "Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch". He would have made out much better.

Oooooo, saw a good one in "Nightmare in Retroville" last night. Who the heck is this?
Posted Image

That's Bob Hope...comedian, actor, TV star since vaudeville days. What's he doing on the miniature golf course? He was also an avid (if not terribly talented :) ) golfer and frequently appeared on stage carrying a golf club for no real reason. Here's a shot of him at one of countless USO appearances:

Coincidentally, the woman to the right is Phyllis Diller, who was the voice of Granny Neutron.

The episode title "A Beautiful Mine" is a play on words of the 2001 Oscar winning movie, "A Beautiful Mind", starring Russell Crowe.

That's amayyyyyyyzing that you caught all of that. I wish I was old enough to have caught these.. erm.. "moments" per se.

Bob Hope and Bing Crosby have to be my favorite pair of movie buddies. I <333 how Hope is always trying to win Dorothy's heart but something always goes horribly wrong. The "Road" movies have to be my favorite old comedies. It's actually quite amazing how much my friend gets "Bing Crosby" and "Bill Cosby" confused. Except for the comedian profession, they're quite different.

As for Monty Python, this is one of my favorite movies ever and that cave scene on WLK, I actually did catch. I said to my sister, "Alex! That's Monty Python! Omigoodness! That freakish thing is supposed to be a bunny!" LOL Two of my favorite Monty Python quotes are, "One day, all of this shall be yours!" "What? The curtains?" and "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! Now, go away or I shall taunt you further!" Has anyone seen Spamalot? The Broadway play based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail? It's awesome. :D Too bad John Cleese isn't in it. -_-

I don't think you really wish you were THAT old. :) That being said, Hope and Crosby, James Cagney, Clark Gable, those were before my time, too. I guess I just used to watch a lot of old movies. Although Bob Hope I remember from my childhood for all those TV variety specials he did. Seems like there was one of those every couple of months.

BTW, I can think of one obvious difference between Bing Crosby and Bill Cosby! LOL!!!!!!

I think the line was, "Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!" Loved Holy Grail. One of the most brilliantly funny movies of all time. I have the DVD. Probably seen that movie more than a dozen times and still laugh my head off at it. I think the funniest scene was when they were saying "NEEE!" to the old woman on their quest for a shrubbery. Either that or the old man asking them three questions before they could cross the bridge.

Never saw Spamalot. I'm not much of a Broadway guy. But while on the subject of Broadway, time for another reference.

The title "Birth of a Salesman" is a spoof of the 1949 Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning play by Arthur Miller, "Death of a Salesman". The lead character in that play was Willy Loman, thus the Willy Loman 3000 robot in the JN episode.

My brother noticed this one:
Retroville 9
"Today I consider myself the luckiest boy alive."-Carl
"Today I consider myself the luckiest man alive."-Lou Gehrig (professional baseball player)

I like "Camelot" with Lego Knights!!! And my mom visits this breastfeeding forums, and her avatar is a drawing of the French taunter with his hands on the sides of his head (like nee-ner-nee-ner-nee-ner) and it says, "I fart in your general direction"

MONTY PYTHON RULZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I was thinking about mentioning that one. You beat me to it. BTW, the line is "Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth." It was from his farewell speech at Yankee Stadium. He retired shortly after being diagnosed with ALS, the fatal disease which ironically is now referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease".

Ugh. That last post was rather depressing. Quick! Another reference!

In "Love Potion 976/J", Sheen says to Libby, "I'm proving my love by performing the Archturian dance of wooing from episode 921, The Courtship of Ultra Lord's Father." That's a reference to a sitcom from the early 70's called "The Courtship of Eddy's Father". It starred Bill Bixby and is probably most remembered for its extremely annoying theme song.

People, let me tell ya 'bout my best friend...ARRRRRGGGHHH! Now I got that song stuck in my head!

In "Sheen's Brain", Sheen says, "Libby Folfax, come on down!" That's a reference to the long running (heck, FOREVER running) daytime game show, "The Price is Right". That's the line the announcer uses to call contestants down from the studio audience. Well, except that he doesn't call everybody Libby Folfax. :)

Here's a little one.

On "Nighmare in Retroville", there's a jewerly store called "Hi Ho Silver Store". This is a reference to an old TV show in which the main character (darn memory spazums...) says, "Hi ho, Silver! [His horse] Away!"

Here's one. In the one where Sheen, Carl, and Jimmy have a sleepover, Carl sings, "Good morning to you! Good morning to you!" That's a part of a song that my mom knows, it goes something like, "Good morning to you! Good morning to you! We're all in our places with sun-shiny faces!" I don't know where it's from though.

Here's another good "Matrix" reference. Here's Hugh catching marshmallows in "Maximum Hugh":

Here's Neo trying NOT to catch bullets in "The Matrix":

They were even using the same "bullet time" slow-mo and 3d panning.
