(The chapter IS longer, I'm just too lazy to type the rest of it right now, but it's been a few days and you guys should get SOMETHING. :P)
Chapter VII, Part 1
Nick, needless to say, was pretty surprised to see Cindy’s attire when she met him at the Café. He stared at her, wide-eyed and open-mouth, as she sat down in silence.
“So, what are you having?” Cindy asked meekly, a minute after the waiter handed them their menus.
Nick couldn’t ignore a direct question. “The chicken,” he said. His voice cracked a little from not being used all night.
Cindy nodded. “Me too.”
Nick nodded too and hid behind his menu.
Cindy wondered why he hadn’t cancelled either.
“Excuse me, are you done?” A much friendlier, less bored-looking waiter was standing in front of them, pen poised on pad.
“Yes, two chickens people, a soup appetizer,” Nick said, grateful for an excuse not to look at Cindy.
Cindy frowned: why hadn’t he asked if she wanted an appetizer?
“And a small salad, please,” she added.
The waiter disappeared with their menus. Cindy attempted to make small talk and Nick answered every sentence with three or four words. Then she wondered whether Nick would have ordered the chicken for her had they not been having the same thing.
Ten boring minutes later, their food arrived. Nick seemed relieved to have an excuse not to speak and Cindy silently wished they had gone to a movie. Anxiously, she checked her watch. Five to eight—uh oh.
She looked at her watch every sixty sentence. Four minutes left.
Three minutes left.
Two minutes left.
One minute left.
Then it happened—as quickly and punctual as if it had been on a timer. She was holding her fork and knife, holding her chicken, and all of a sudden she erupted in green. It started from her feet, she could feel it, but unlike last time, when it had spread slowly, color ran up her legs like someone was slathering paint on her. Then it fell down her arms from her fingertips faster than green spray-on sunscreen. Finally, everything from her airline down turned the same color as the rest of her body.
Cindy looked down at her plate, allowing the brim of her hat to shield her face; Nick, who was determinedly avoiding her gaze, didn’t notice a thing. But something happened that he couldn’t possibly ignore:
Every inch of Cindy that was green suddenly burned and since, of course, there was not one cell of skin that wasn’t, the poor girl was nearly on fire.
Cindy gave a squeak of pain and Nick looked up, horrified, backed away and toppled over his chair.

This is some seriously cool shnaps, Rachel, and I would just like to say for the thousandth time that you rock my socks. I luv this story and can't wait to so how Cindy, Nick, and Jimmy deal with this one. I like that the source of conflict is a creative one. (A invention that malfunctions and turns some one into a progressively 70s-esque color code? Can you say unique! I can.) Fabulous, dah-ling, and update soon. SQUEE! :bock:
