Memories and Revenge

For Cindy and Libby, the day passed normally. Nothing strange or abnormal. Except for the anxious thoughts of the plan they would put to action that night.
At 11:00 PM, the two girls slipped out of their homes and met at Louis’ home. They knew what they were supposed to do and even though it wouldn’t be easy, they were determined to make it work. And everything was going along as planned. They had successfully made it to Louis’ house and Louis had told them the password to get into Strych’s lab.
In their all-black outfits, they snuck their way into Strych’s lab. Louis had told them he would meet them as soon as they got inside. And when all that welcomed them was a haunting silence, Libby began to panic.
“Wasn’t he supposed to meet us here?” Libby asked in a worried whisper. “Where is he?”
“I don’t know…he should’ve been here…come on, let’s go look for him,” Cindy said, as calmly as she could manage.
“Okay,” Libby agreed as they, hand in hand, sneaked though the metal warehouse. A cold wind blew outside, causing a ghostly howling noise to echo through the building. Libby found it hard to walk, because her knees were shaking so badly.
“Don’t worry. I’m sure it’s only the wind,” Cindy reassured her frightened friend.
“I-I know,” Libby stuttered. “It’s just that, I wish we had a flashlight or something.”
Libby was right, the room was pitch-dark and neither girl knew what they were doing or where they were going. Unfortunately, things weren’t going to change in their favor.
CRACK! A bolt of lightning lit up the night sky, through the huge windows above them, that they now, were very aware of, the girls could tell that this storm was very close. Libby jumped and Cindy looked up at the window in awe. The storm was right above the lab! Rain poured and, as the girls soon found out, the Strych lab leaks.
The girls were soaked to the bone by the time they found shelter, underneath a metal workbench.
“Well,” Libby began. “I think we can safely say, this mission is been a failure.”

In another part of the Strych lab, Louis’ luck wasn’t much better. He sat in a security room with a wall of monitors showing what was going on in other parts of the large building. Louis was tied to a desk chair and he was gagged with a piece of cloth around his mouth. Eustace and his two muscled bodyguards watched the screens intently…but not as intently as Louis.
He felt that the whole failure of the mission was his fault. Eustace had known about their plan the whole time and now he sat tied to a chair as his enemies just sat waiting to capture Cindy and Libby.
This is all my fault, Louis thought.
He watched the screen flicker as the girls entered the lab. The 1st bodyguard started to head for the door, but Eustace stopped him.
“What say we have a little fun?” Eustace asked grinning evilly.
The two bodyguards began to laugh evilly and Eustace walked towards an elevator door at the far side of the room. Then, he said to the bodyguards, “One of you stay here and make sure that Mr. Louis doesn’t go anywhere. The other, come with me.”
The 1st bodyguard followed Eustace into the elevator and Eustace pressed a button and they were off.
Louis wasn’t sure what Eustace meant by “having a little fun”, but he knew it couldn’t be good. And, he knew that the Strych lab had many weapons of torture. And, he knew that Eustace’s bodyguards were very strong and powerful.
So, as Louis watched the screens his eyes filled with tears, knowing this might be the last time he could ever see them. He remembered the night before, how hard they had worked on making a plan that could work. The girls were so enthusiastic. They believed that they could really finish their mission. They trusted him. And he failed them. If they didn’t kill him, they would definitely fire him and he would be out of a job.
The bodyguard watched him weep in silence. Louis didn’t notice he was doing anything until his mouth was free of the cloth gagging him. Louis looked up at the bodyguard in astonishment as he untied his hands and Louis was free.
The bodyguard smiled at Louis. “A man’s gotta do, what a man’s gotta do,” he said.
Louis thanked him and headed for the door. Just as he was out the door he turned back into the room and said, “If I don’t come back…tell the girls that I tried.”

The thunderstorm only got worse as the girls squatted under the metal workbench. The girls were drenched, couldn’t see the hands in front of their faces and had completely lost hope of successfully completing their mission.
“I wonder what happened to Louis,” Libby whispered, dejectedly.
“I don’t really want to think about it,” Cindy replied, swiftly.
“Do you think Eustace found out?” Libby asked, curious.
“Well, it certainly looks like it,” said Cindy, gesturing around her, even though Libby couldn’t see her do so in the midnight dark.
But neither girl knew what else was coming straight towards them in the dark. The first bodyguard, the one who had gone with Eustace on the elevator stood at the other side of the large, warehouse-like lab. The lightning glinted off his shiny white teeth, his lips curled into a devious grin. He stepped forward slowly and silently towards the girls’ hiding place.
“Libby,” Cindy whispered, “do you feel like you are being watched?”
“Yes,” Libby whimpered.
Both girls looked up as a crack of thunder and a flash of strong lightning shed just enough light to see the daunting figure before them.
“Ello, girlies.” The bodyguard cackled manically.
Both girls gulped at the huge, muscled man who grabbed onto Libby’s braids and pulled her up by them. She screamed in pain and terror as her hoisted her up and grabbed a nearby chair. He pulled out a length of rope and tied Libby tightly to the chair, then he gagged her mouth so that he could muffle her blood-curdling screams.
Cindy had managed to compose herself enough to get up and run. She didn’t know where she was running to or where this evil man was, but she knew from her friend’s screams that whatever he was doing to her couldn’t be pleasant. A tear ran down her cheek for her captured best friend. But she was out to find help, to find a friend, to find Louis.

Where is he?, Cindy wondered. She slid across walls hoping for a light switch. That would certainly aid in her frantic search. They probably have him in an enclosed area. Somewhere in one of the offices or something…if this place has offices. Or maybe he’s escaped and they were looking for him and the man that attacked Libby was really looking for him…this is all so confusing.
Just then, a voice, hardly more than a whisper asked, “Who are you?”
Cindy wondered if she should answer. For all she knew it could be another guard like the one she was running away from. But, it could also be Louis, or someone willing to help her…
“Who are you? Please. I promise, I won’t hurt you.” The voice sounded very desperate and kind. A lot like…
“Louis?” Cindy asked, quietly.
“Cindy? Is that you?” Louis asked.
“Yes! It’s me Louis and you have to help me! The man came and he’s got Libby! Please! Let’s go!”
“NO! Cindy! We have to go to the other side of the lab now! You know your friend that was shot with the ray? He’s only got a few more minutes!” Louis explained, frantically.
“WHAT?” Cindy cried. Finally, it dawned on her. She had to make a choice. Now it was Libby, her best friend through everything, who had helped her unconditionally or Jimmy, who was going to be lost forever to a universe full of nothing but suffering and loneliness, who deep down, she was in love with. A choice Cindy really didn’t want to make.
“Come on, Cindy, let’s go!” Louis urged.
A tear ran down her cheek as she stepped the direction she came from. “You save him, Louis,” Cindy said. “I’m going to help my friend. And … if he makes it back and I don’t… tell him it was my fault and that … that I’m sorry.”

Louis stared at Cindy with admiration. She was so strong. He walked over to her and went down on his knee and embraced her. He heaved a choked sigh and a tear rolled down his cheek. “Cindy,” he whispered.
“Yes?” Cindy asked.
“There’s something else…’ Louis trailed off.
“What is it?” Cindy questioned.
“His heart and yours…they’re connected…” Louis explained vaguely.
“What do you mean ‘they’re connected’?” asked a very confused Cindy.
“I did research today, before they tied me up…he’s slowly disappearing from this world…and since your heart is connected to his…well, you’re disappearing to that world, too,” Louis continued, “Now, you are the only one who can save him.”
“But…how? I don’t know anything about how to reverse the effects of the Revenge Ray, without you I can’t save him, but if I don’t go save Libby now…” Cindy trailed off, realizing the looming choice wasn’t over, it was growing more terrible every moment, and Cindy couldn’t take it. “THEN HOW DO WE SAVE LIBBY?” Cindy cried.
“We can’t save them both Cindy…I’m so sorry. But, you either choose one now, or have the choice made for you by waiting…and not saving either of them. So who will it be, Cindy?”

“So what are you saying here, Louis? That I have to choose between two of the people I love most in the world? Leaving one of them to die?” Cindy asked in a voice choked by tears, but she did not cry. She was stronger than that. She was tougher than that. And even with the parallel universe pulling away her heart, she was still brave enough to go on. She stood in the dark hallway with Louis, facing the choice of who lives and who dies.
“I’m sorry, Cindy.” Louis apologized even though he knew it wasn’t his fault and it wouldn’t help lessen the pressure welling up inside the young girl before him.
Cindy bit her lip and turned away from Louis for a moment. Then she sighed. “If he goes…then so does my heart…right?” she asked.
“Yes,” Louis said.
“Then…let’s go.” She walked down the hallway towards where Louis had come from…to Jimmy and with not a tear in her eye she stepped forward, away from her best friend. Bravely, Cindy walked on, Louis following her.
“I wish there was something we could do, but I don’t see any way of…” Louis attempted to console Cindy, it didn’t seem to help, just make the realization worse for Cindy.
“I know.” Cindy stated. “Libby…Libby will…will be alright. She…she’s probably already escaped…just like you did, Louis,” Cindy stumbled over her words, trying her hardest to believe this for truth.
“Definitely…” Louis said, attempting to sound sure. “Of course.”

“Okay, so I um…step through this arch…and then what do I do?” Cindy stood in front of a shiny new-looking, hi-tech arch that sat in the corner of the large ware-house-like room. Louis stood by a metal work-bench next to it and said, “From there you’ll be in the world Jimmy is and you’ll have to get him back. And only those with connections to his heart can touch him…all’s there is his soul. His heart. Since yours is connected you can get his back.” Louis explained as best he could, but Cindy didn’t look convinced.
“Is this truth or theory?” she asked.
“…Both.” Louis replied.
“So…um…what’s gonna happen to me? I mean…am I like just my soul? Or…where…where does my body fit into this?” Cindy was still a little reluctant to enter a world she knew nothing about.
“I don’t know, but we’re here and we can’t let doubt stop us. You want to save him, don’t you?” Louis attempted to convince her.
“Yes. Yes, I’ll do it,” Cindy said.
And then, without a doubt, Cindy stepped forward and Louis walked over to the arch pulling a lever. The arch bursted into a shining display of beautiful colors streaming and flowing together, Cindy turned to Louis and smiled sadly.
“Save Libby,” she said.
“Definitely,” Louis replied, a crystal tear rolling down his red cheeks.
“Remember me like this, Louis, if I don’t come back. Remember me like this,” Cindy stood brave and true with the same sorrowful smile.
“You will come back, though,” Louis said.
Cindy blinked away a tear and stepped through the arch’s shining array of colors and disappeared.

Louis stood in tears in front of the arch. She never replied. Cindy never said that she would come back. As his tears ran down his face he realized that Libby was still in dreadful danger. Danger that he could help with. Louis started sprinting down the pitch-dark hallways he came through till he came to the security camera room he was captured in before. He ducked into the room and looked at the security monitors. He couldn’t see Libby anywhere. He couldn’t see anyone anywhere.
Where are Eustace and the bodyguard he took with him that attacked Libby? Where was Libby? These questions buzzed around his head in a confused panic as he thought of all the horrible things they could be doing to her right now. And, Cindy! That was happening with her?! Was she still okay? Aah! He ran out of the room and down the hall then when he came to the wall that he knew led to the main lab, he slid across the wall as not to be detected by anyone in the main lab.
But, he forgot about one thing.
There was a closet in that hall, a very small one. One used for nothing but cleaning supplies. It was big enough maybe to hold two people, if they were small.
When Louis slid across that wall, he slid across that closet, without even knowing it. But the closet knew it. An unknown force pulled Louis by the back of his shirt into the closet. Before he could scream, someone whispered, “SSH!”
Louis thought it might be in his best interest to be quiet. It could be the bodyguard who helped him escape or Libby, trying to help him, or it could be Eustace or the other bodyguard who captured him and could hurt him if he didn’t shut his mouth.
“Who are you?” Louis whispered.
“It’s…” the voice began.
Heavy footsteps could be heard reverberating from the main lab’s metal floor. Whoever was talking had enough sense to keep quiet. Untimely, though, as Louis still had no idea if this person was friend or foe. This in-the-dark thing was beginning to aggravate Louis.
The footsteps didn’t seem to be getting closer, but the hiding pair kept quiet just in case. When the footsteps surrendered, Louis asked his question again.
“Who is it?”
“That depends. Who are you?” This voice was smart.
“I’m…well…a…that depends, on who you are.” Louis said.
The voice sighed. “We aren’t going to get anywhere if neither of us will tell each other their name,” the voice pointed out, “so, how about we…turn on the light.”
The click of a light bulb’s pull-chain sounded and a beam of yellow light bathed the small janitor’s closet.
“No more secrets.” The person who the voice belonged to said, smiling.

Ciiindy. Ciiindy. Close your eyes so you can see.
What? How can I see if I close my eyes?
You’ll see. Just do it.
Cindy closed her eyes and suddenly, things weren’t black as they were when her eyes were open, they were in the Strych lab, except lighter and less weight. Cindy turned to the person speaking or…thinking to her.
How is this possible? Cindy thought out loud. Apparently, in this realm there was no speaking involved.
This is basically a dream-like version of our world. Hence the ‘you need to close your eyes to see’ part. Jimmy thought back.
Oh. Ok. Cindy thought, understanding.
Do you have the way back? Jimmy asked.
I think so… Cindy replied. What do we need to do?
Well, because this is a world of dreams…we have to wake up. Jimmy thought.
That makes sense, thought Cindy. But…how?
Well, think. What wakes you up?
Uh…an alarm clock?
Exactly.
So, all we needed was a stupid alarm clock?
Well, you need to have someone in the real world set it.
…How in the world do we get them to set an alarm clock for us?
You know those voices you heard?
So they were you.
Yes. Jimmy sounded a little embarrassed.
So that’s how you tell them?
Yes, as far as I know how.
Ok then, let’s try to go find them.

Louis looked down on the person in front of him. Her brown eyes smiled at him and she said, “Libby here, reporting for duty. What d’ya need me to do, chief?”
Louis said, “I don’t know…we need to wait for Cindy to get back Jimmy’s heart…but she doesn’t know how…and…maybe we should go back to the lab that Cindy crossed over into the Ray’s universe.”
“That sounds good,” Libby said, “But, first, one question: How did you escape?”
“Well, a bodyguard that, I guess was on our side, untied me and let me free…how did you escape?” Louis asked.
“That’s a long story, Louis, so why don’t we wait to get Cindy and Jimmy back because I’m sure I’m going to have to tell the story to them too.” Libby said.
“That’s true,” Louis agreed, but still he was curious to know how Libby pulled off such a miracle.
Libby put her ear up to the closet door, and whispered to Louis, “I don’t hear anything, do you?”
Louis put his ear up to the door as well, “Nope.”
“Then, let’s go,” Libby slowly and carefully eased the door open and stepped out. Out into danger, leaving their safe harbor where they felt sheltered to walk out into the dark, in both of its meanings. The hall was literally pitch dark, where the closet had a small light bulb to shed light on the closet’s unimpressive surroundings. The hallway also could hide their evil enemies, so they were in the dark…well, in the dark.

Well, yes, Louis, I have to admit, is awesome. He just came out in writing, so I didn't even have to think of a new charactor. That bio I have on him? Came up with it as fast as I could type it on ff.net. Before that I never really knew much about him or even thought about it. I just wrote more and his personality just came out. I don't know how I manage to do these things. Like, chapters 18-27 I wrote basically in the past 3 days. That's 9 chapters in 3 days. I couldn't believe it because on top of that, I went places that I was away all day and I had a minor case of writer's block.
And yes, I have paraRPed before, it was really fun, but I could never keep up, so I was Libby and I had a more minor part. Hugh's fantastic at it though. He should write a fanfic. It'd be AMAZING! :kawaii:

The realm of dreams was different from the real world and yet the same. Any and every place in the real world was in the realm of dreams and so it was the same. But, at the same time, the spirit of the being in the dream realm could not touch anything in the real world. Exactly like you would think a ghost would, their limbs went straight through things fogging them like a static-less hologram. They could watch the actions of those in the real world, their every move under the dream realm’s unfaltering eyes. And, the beings in the dream realm could only attempt to contact the beings of the real world by, carefully as not to fog them, whispering in their ear. This dream realm was quite a fascinating place.
But, Cindy chose not to call it a dream realm. She chose to call it the nightmare realm.
Cindy felt haunted walking through things and watching them slowly mist before her eyes. It frightened her to know that even if she screamed her lungs out, she would still not be heard. The great Cindy Vortex.
Was scared.
Her companion, however, seemed unphased by these mysterious phenomena. What was it? His logic that kept him calm? Whatever it was, Cindy was sorely missing it. They walked lightly through the gloomy halls, thunder and lightning still clapping up in the night sky above the lab. Their targets seemed to elude them well.
Louis? Libby? Where are you? Cindy thought apprehensively, hoping for the best, but the dangers of horrific circumstances still fought their way to her mind.
Jimmy, sensing her fear reassured his frightening friend, I’m sure they’re fine, he thought surely. He placed his hand on hers and smiled. Cindy looked at him a sad smile on her face.
Thank you, Cindy thought, happy that she didn’t have to speak because she would not be able to hold in the mixed emotion tear, welling in her emerald eye.
Don’t worry, Jimmy thought, I’m sure we’re getting close. We’ll be back in the real world in no time. We’ll wake up in bed and forget this whole thing. That’s what this world is about in the first place. You ever notice dreams aren’t remembered for long except when you think about it excessively or you confide it in someone?
Yes, I had noticed that…Cindy thought.
Your dreams take you to realms like this one every night you dream. And, when you wake up, they slip away. That’s just how this works.
Oh, Cindy thought with melancholy, that means that we won’t remember this…getting along and all and just go on fighting forever…huh?
Is that why you are so sad? Because you don’t want things to go back to the way they were before? …Well, remember the rules of dreams…they are just a wish your heart makes…
…When you’re fast asleep, Cindy finished, a tear in her eye, she leaned over to Jimmy and kissed him on the cheek. If you choose to remember this dream, remember that part.

Aah. This chapter strangles JC. :bock:
