Frankenstein. We read it for AP English, which is surprising because it's nothing REMOTELY comparable to the lit we've read the past two years. Classic or nay, I hated 80% of the book. There were some impressive passages, but otherwise, ugh.

I just finished reading Unseen Academicals, by Terry Pratchett.
I wouldn't say it was one of my favourites of the Discworld series (and I don't quite understand why this is the next one to be adapted), but it was still strange, funny and enjoyable, like all his books.

I just read the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy series
It kept blowing my mind with things that made no sense and perfect sense at the same time
Yet even though there are 6 books in this trilogy it still never answered the ultimate question
Or rather never posed the actual question

I just read "Beast Master", which is a surprisingly funny and cute shoujo manga, with possibly the best ending page ever rofl

Why do I do this to myself

Lol. Mar I don't read shojo. It's too glittery and romancey for me. When I read manga, I read shonen. I like the dark, edgy story lines that pull at my heartstrings and end their run rife with bitter, unrequited/unsatisfied love. And I think it's starting to show...I'm planning on putting so many of my characters through that terrible experience haha

Either way, the most recent book I finished reading (technically rereading) was Entwined, by Heather Dixon. It's a fabulous book and I recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy, especially people who like fairy tales. It's a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses (one of two novels I own that take this tale and re-imagine it), but instead of being from the view of the man who uncovers the mystery or switching between him and the eldest princess, the novel is solely from the view of the eldest of the twelve princesses. And it's dark and edgy and chock full of Will They or Won't They love angst mwahahaha. I love that book so much. And the cover is sooooo pretty :kawaii:

And i'm currently reading Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult. It's a good one, though it's taking me longer than any other JP book I've read. This is probably in part affected by the fact that I want to finish my own damn book, and I'm feeling like JP's books are getting a little formulaic. You know, something shocking happens, there's a family dilemma, people go to court...it gets old after a while. Honestly, the only reason I'm still reading is because I want to know about the wolf guy. He's in a coma, but all of his narrated chapters are about him learning to become incorporated into wolf packs, both captive and wild. It's fascinating. Everything else...meh. Those roles have been done before, and better.

Me too. I normally detest shoujo, which is why I found it so amusing that I liked Beast Master so much probably because, unlike most shoujo, the lead guy wasn't some brooding perfect heartthrob, he was this total weirdo

Sounds kinda neat! I've never once been able to get into a Jodi Picoult book...I've started a ton, but never finished one. *sweatdrop*

I normally whip through them, but this one is meh compared to most of the others I've read. I really, really liked Sing You Home, Nineteen Minutes, House Rules, Plain Truth, My Sister's Keeper, and Salem Falls. I went through those each in about a day and a half to two days, max. Keeping Faith and Perfect Match took me three or four days, I haven't finished Second Glance yet, and Lone Wolf I've been reading for over a week now and I'm still not done (close, but not quite there).

I've got some of my favorites in my dorm room now if you ever want to borrow one and try to read it.

I don't think any of you saw my post about this in the Anime topic, so I'll post it here. Several months ago, I got my first true manga book, the right-to-left kind like in Japan!! It's called Dengeki Daisy, and it's a relatively clean manga. Over time, I read all your comments how manga was so awesome, and I wanted to get into it, as well, but didn't know of any "clean" manga, since I knew that the majority of manga was rather "dirty" and tended to be VERY suggestive, and I naturally didn't want that. Someone a GOOD while back suggested this one, so I eventually bought it and saw that they were right! MAJOR props to whoever suggested Dengeki Daisy as a relatively clean manga for me!! It epically ROCKS, and I intend to purchase Volume 2 very soon!! :kawaii:

Not the majority, Em...just the ones we like to discuss here
Also, I've heard great things about Dengeki Daisy, but unless I'm mistaken, it's still not finished, right? I *try* not to start mangas until they're finished, 'cause with my luck they get canceled and then I'm left on an eternal cliffhanger. :onfire:

Truthfully, I'm more inclined to watch anime than read manga. I like hearing the characters speak and seeing everything in color, though I have read all of Death Note, the first five volumes of Black Butler, the first three Full Metal Alchemist, and the first two Vampire Knight. I really need to finish FMA, which I want to do this school year. I already started rewatching it last week, and I want to watch the FMA: Brotherhood anime before I read the whole manga. I also need to get around to reading Black Butler VI, because technically Sharon owns it and I've had it since Christmas and haven't read it yet *sweat drop*

No offense to anyone here, but the kind of manga you guys frequently talk about is too extreme for me. That's why I got Dengeki Daisy. :)
