I just watched the first episode in French and it is much better than the Korean. Good for waiting.

Watched the first two eps (and the webisodes) today! I always forget how - I dunno, manic? - French cartoons sound. I have to agree with you about the dubbing though. I checked out the Korean afterwards, and the French is definitely more energetic and fun. I think it matches the tone of the series more closely. It also helps that the lip movements sync better in the French version ![]()
I'm really impressed with the quality of the animation. It's vibrant, colorful, and unusually expressive for 3-D. The bad guys have REALLY creative designs so far, and damn, Hawk Moth's voice is nuts (although his name in French is just...Papillon. AKA, Butterfly. What). I don't feel like the first two eps revealed too much about Marinette's character, but Adrien is super interesting just by virtue of his loneliness and dutiful, resigned obedience to his father. Talk about daddy issues
Marinette's best friend Alya is also quite likeable, and I like how Adrien's best bro ended up falling victim to an Akuma so quickly. I wonder how exactly Hawk Moth picks his targets? What's his deal, anyway? So many questions...
Anyway, I'm looking forward to watching more. It seems like there's a lot of room for world-building and interpersonal drama alongside the fight scenes. Actually, seeing Miraculous Ladybug kinda reminds me of when my cousins and I used to sit around in my grandma's kitchen and watch Code Lyoko on Wednesdays. Takes me right back to early high school and all its accompanying joys and disappointments. Sigh...the cartoon nostalgia...
On another note, it's soooo weird how the theme song for the French and English versions are like, COMPLETELY different. The French lyrics focus entirely on the star-crossed love story, and the words have a sort of tragic quality to them, while the English is more concerned with the action/adventure angle. Seriously, they seem to be describing two entirely different shows. Personally, I think the French sounds much, much better. They lyrics are more emotional, and the music just flows so naturally (plus it has that old-school pop feel. lol).
Anyone else wanna weigh in with their thoughts?

The villains are such a great part of the show. You thought the ones you have seen so far are unique. It gets so much better from here. Their powers get ridiculous but they do it in such a way that they all seem awesome. The bad guys have REALLY creative designs so far, and damn, Hawk Moth's voice is nuts (although his name in French is just...Papillon. AKA, Butterfly. What).
Im pretty sure Hawk Moth picks someone who is pissed off about something. It seems to be his only criteria.I like how Adrien's best bro ended up falling victim to an Akuma so quickly. I wonder how exactly Hawk Moth picks his targets? What's his deal, anyway? So many questions...
I had a similar thought about this and Kim Possible.Anyway, I'm looking forward to watching more. I'm curious to see how the plot, characters, and relationships will slowly be revealed over time. It seems like there's a lot of room for world-building and interpersonal drama alongside the fight scenes. Wow, that is quite the difference of themes when they still use the same episodes. On another note, it's soooo weird how the theme song for the French and English versions are like, COMPLETELY different. Yeah, but I mean, people get pissed off/emotional every day. I wonder what makes him pick those specific pissed off people over all the others. Unfortunately, I get the feeling he's the kind of villain who's going to stay mysterious until fairly late in the series.
Her powers are such a perfect counter to Hawk Moth's that she can literally undo everything he does.
I like that her powers include a reset button. Certainly convenient that it keeps Paris from being permanently damaged ![]()

I'm having trouble understanding the English theme song lyrics. They're too fast. I like the tune, though.

Here are the English lyrics (as far as I can make out, anyway):
In the daytime, I'm Marinette,
just a normal girl with a normal life,
but there's something about me that no one knows yet,
'cause I have a secret...
I live a life that's full of fun
It keeps me sharp and on the run
When evil comes, I find a way
To use my force and save the day.
Oh oh oh, life's got me spinnin' round
Oh oh oh, my feet are off the ground
Oh oh oh, and when the sun goes down
You better hang around!
Miraculous, simply the best,
up to the task when things go wrong
Miraculous, the luckiest,
powering up, always so strong!
Miraculous...
They look at me and think I'm cool
I'm Cat Noir, at night I rule
My ring is charged with energy
My claws are out, just watch and see.
Oh oh oh!
Oh no, you'll never know
Oh oh oh!
My force will only grow
Oh oh oh!
And when the moon is out,
You better hang around!
It's Ladybug, jumping above
Power is on when things go wrong!
It's Ladybug, the lucky charm
Magic is on, always so strong!
It's Ladybug, jumping above
Power is on when things go wrong!
Miraculous, simply the best
Up to the task when things go wrong!
Miraculous, the luckiest
Powering up always so strong
Miraculous
(Miraculous!)
Simply the best
Up to the task when things go wrong!
Miraculous!
And for comparison, here's the translation of the French lyrics (my translation, not the one from the video, cause I think they got some of it slightly wrong):
(My name’s Marinette, a girl like any other.
But when fate chooses me to fight against the forces of evil,
I become Miraculous Ladybug!)
Black butterfly, Paris mystery - this is my rather strange story.
Black magic makes me despair, and Chat Noir is no angel.
Ah ah ah, mixed-up love
Ah ah ah, my heart loves Adrien.
Ah ah ah, but he only seems to love me when I become…
A Ladybug, a lucky charm,
Lady Magic and Lady Luck!
A Ladybug, Lady of the Heart,
Being heroic in case of emergency!
It's me, Chat Noir, always here.
I have super-powered (overpowered?) powers.
For victory, I swear, I'll fight desperately.
Ah ah ah, mixed-up love,
Ah ah ah, I’m afraid to love in vain
Ah ah ah, the one who cannot love me when she sees her destiny...
A Ladybug, a lucky charm,
Lady Magic and Lady Luck!
A Ladybug, Lady of the Heart,
Being heroic in case of emergency!
(repeat)

Yeah, they're just sort of spitting out episodes whenever the individual translators/subbers complete them. I've downloaded them and stuck them in a folder, to be watched once the earlier eps come out.

Watched the first English episode on Nick.com. In some ways I liked it better (Marinette is much more charming in the English dub, I think), but in most ways I think the French version is superior. The American version seems to fall victim to more cartoonish voice acting and weirdly dated slang ("Off the hook" and "off the chain" are toootally things young people are sayin' nowadays, right? RIGHT??) Alya and Nino in particular fall victim to this. Nino sounds like one of the teenage mutant ninja turtles for crying out loud. And we're going with the word "evilize"? Really? ![]()
On the other hand, it's easy to follow and I don't have to wait a bajillion years for subtitled versions to come out, so...

Late to the party, but I recently noticed this show on Netflix and thought, "eh, why not?" And I do not regret it, this show is great! A little corny at times, but I love it!
