[Mara=^.^=]

So this hasn't aired yet, but...is anyone else excited for The Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir? It's a French-Korean-Japanese magical girl anime done in CGI style.

 

   

 

The show is set in modern day France, and it stars a teenage girl named Marinette Cheng who moonlights as a superhero with good luck powers (in France, ladybugs are symbols of good luck). She is aided by her sidekick/sometime rival, a catboy with bad luck powers named Adrien. They both attend the same school, but don't know it.

 

   

 

Together, they have to stop these creatures called "Akumas" who turn normal people into super-powered villains. In typical derp fashion, Marinette is in love with Adrien, and Cat Noir is in love with Ladybug...though neither realizes the true identity of the other. So they're caught in this sad routine of chasing someone attainable, and all the while they're standing right in front of each other.

 

 

One reason I'm so excited for this series is because it's an international collaboration that could set the stage for more cooperative endeavors in the future. It's already started airing in Korea, and it will begin airing in France in October. The English dub is set to start this December on Nickelodeon. Here are some more gifs:

 

 

 

  

 

The show is clearly aimed at a high school audience, not at people in their 20s like me, but hey, that's never stopped me before
I think I'm going to watch it in French so that the language fits the setting. Assuming I can get my hands on it...

Not going to lie it has peaked my interest somewhat, no clue if it will keep my interest  mainly due to the fact that if something new doesn't truly impress me I tend to revert to the old faithful things that still impress me. But I'll definitely give it a chance.

I tend to go for the 5 episode rule. If something doesn't capture my interest after 5 eps, I'm out.

Same here, though sometimes something manages to waste a lot of my time, usually because the idea has tons of potential and some part of me just hopes they will capitalize on it.

Just saw the trailer. It seems amazing. I like this animation style. I will definitely give it a watch when it comes around to being English.

Cool, the main character is half Asian, like me (wish i had blue eyes, though)! Definitely gonna give this a watch when it comes out on nick

The thing I am really liking about this show is how unique all the heroes and villains powers are.

Do you have a link to the first episode? I'd really like it if I could find the French series subbed in English...I could watch the raw releases, but I'd probably have to rewatch the eps like 3-4 times to understand all the dialogue My French comprehension isn't what it used to be.

I never got to a comprehension level in Spanish where I could watch something raw and understand it all. The best I got was Spanish with Spanish subtitles, so that if I couldn't understand the accent, I could at least read what they said and figure it out that way.

Captions make understanding foreign shows SO much easier. Slap on some French subtitles, and I go from childlike comprehension to a reasonable understanding of the dialogue. I CAN do raws, but it takes so much effort that it's really not worth it enjoyment-wise.
