It's one of the better memes to come out recently. I still don't get the "I came out to have a good time and I'm honestly felling so attacked right now" thing. Like...how is that funny? Am I missing something? I don't get why Kermit the frog is suddenly the mouthpiece for passive-aggressive judgment, either (though at least we can blame instagram for that one). I must be getting old.

I actually find "I came out to have a good time, and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now" f*ckin' hilarious. I don't know, its just a really funny sounding sentence? Cracks me up, especially in certain contexts. *shrugs*

I've seen a few variations that are clever, but the original is so...not funny to me. Most of them aren't funny to me. Maybe it's not absurdist enough...my favorite memes tend to fall into the absurd category

(Warning: Its long, because I'm a fangirling mess after that episode! Sorry, not sorry.)

 THOSE PHONE CALLS, THOSE PHONE CALLS, THOSE PHONE CALLS!!!

 

Man, I did NOT expect this episode to be so full of Cecilos! Since last week only had a small mention of Carlos, I was sort of expecting this one to be similar, but he was, like, the main focus! 

 

Now I have a feeling that next week he'll be mentioned very little, and they'll go back and forth on that with each episode, just for variety, until he finally returns. Fine with me! This was such a treat!

 

As much as I loved all of the other little bits in this episode, I'm not going to lie and pretend the phone calls and amazing interactions between these two weren't my favorite part, because they WERE! THEY JUST WERE AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!

 

I mean, come on, this episode hit practically EVERYTHING on our Cecilos favorites checklist!

 

- Cecil over-praising Carlos, and Carlos being humble about it.

- I miss you / I miss you, too.

- Teasing and/or joking with each other ("You're too much").

- Cecil reminding Carlos that others in Night Vale love him.

- Cecil's concern for Carlos's safety.

- Cecil wishing Carlos would call more. 

- Rather lengthy discussions about science.

- Cecil trying to give Carlos advice on how to get home ("look for those doors").

- Carlos accidentally putting science over trying to get home, and Cecil trying to be understanding while frustrated and scared.

- Unfortunate miss communications, as they have little time to talk.

- Carlos's comment about how strange Night Vale is, which was hilarious and matched so many of our jokes and fanfics, and comparing it to the desert other world ("This is a strange place, and considering where I've lived for the past couple years, that says a lot" I laughed so f*cking hard!)

- Carlos being afraid that he'd lost his only current connection to Cecil (his phone).

- Carlos not wanting to make any new friends, because the only one he cares about is back in Night Vale.

- FINALLY HEARING THEM BOTH SAY "I love you" TO EACH OTHER LIVE!

- Carlos being so sure of their love!

- Carlos complimenting Cecil's voice!

- Practically, sort of, co-hosting the show together!

- Implications of future phone sex.

- Just hearing them converse, discuss, flirt, tease, joke, worry, advice, inform, and TALK like a real couple! We rarely get to hear them talk to each other, since the main voice we hear is Cecil's, so episodes where we get to hear them have full, diverse conversations like this really help us get more insight into their relationship, the serious and cute stuff! I was THRILLED!

 

Its like they decided to play "Cecilos Bingo" with this episode, and we all filled up our cards within minutes! It was truly lovely.~

I'm sad they're still separated, and that Carlos is getting distracted, but unlike some other comments I've seen, I don't think he's giving up hope in getting home. I can tell how much he loves and misses Cecil, and how determined he is to make it out eventually. I hope its sooner rather than later, but this episode, and hearing them talk, was a great comfort! LOVED IT!

 

Oh yeah, and they are just F*CKING WITH US now with The Weather! Two eps in a row where its a sad, slow, romantic song?

Yeah, its a coincidence! SURE!

I second everything you said about this episode, Theenie. This episode was great. All the Cecilos pretty much made my week, I think.

Catching up on what I missed!

 

Capital Campaign cracked me up. It was a pleasant, light-hearted follow-up to the suspense of the prior two episodes. I loved Mrs. Wickersham's dry cleaner and his assertion that colleges are just factories for socialist robots: "free health care for everyone, bee bee boo beep!" I freaking know people like that IRL. My favorite line, though, came straight from Cecil: "Knowledge may be terrible, but we can only prefer it to ignorance. Light may be terrible, but we can only prefer it to the dark." I really enjoyed the weather, too!

Just listened to Rumbling.

 

AGGGHHH Cecil is an Aquarius like me! And Carlos is a Taurus. Like...my brother No! NOOO! I do not want to associate my brother with Night Vale in any way, shape, or form! MUST PURGE INFORMATION FROM SKULL

 

Can I just say how amusing Cecil's passive aggressive horoscopes are? That part of his personality entertains me to no end. Also, their earthquake mascot is Duncan the Brown Recluse Spider? Really? Really?

 

I loved the show postscript. "Everything that happens, happens for a reason...except ostriches. What the hell, man."

Fink was right. That probably WAS the weirdest episode thus far. 

 

And I'm totally okay with that. 

 

Besides the Steve Carlsberg part (which was F*CKING HEARTBREAKING!), I think the rest of it was delightfully light-hearted. And I don't know about the rest of you, but I certainly needed that. 

 

I will be re-listening many times tomorrow, I'm sure.

Spoilers for Episode 56: Homecoming

First of all, that title was so friggin' mean. lol Like, I knew it very likely wasn't going to be about Carlos coming home yet, but come on. Given the current storyline, and how desperately fans are waiting for his return, that was a pretty damn cruel trick. (I kid. It was actually clever.)

 

But looking past that, OH MY GOD, WE FINALLY GOT TO HEAR EARL'S VOICE!!! Whoo! And we heard him interact with Cecil! It was great! By far my favorite part of the episode! I must've relistened to that entire scene over a dozen times now. I really like the voice actor they chose for him. Its very calm and kind. It suits him. And the entire conversation was completely respectful, polite, and friendly. I know this is only the first time we've heard from him, as I'm sure we will much more in the future, but if they keep the character and relationship just like this, I am totally cool with it. I was about 98% sure they weren't going to make him into a love interest/romantic foil/love triangle bullshit, but given how common those awful cliches are in most popular fiction, its hard not to be a little suspicious or on edge about the possibility (and the fandom's paranoia over the timing of his return certainly doesn't help that twinge of fear). So I'm very happy and impressed by how well they handled this introduction of the character into the show, and his rekindling friendship with Cecil. So far so good. I wanted to like him, and I do like him. *massive sighs of relief*

 

Cecil being extremely quiet when Earl asked what year the two of them graduated was really strange and unnerving (ya know, more so than the rest of the show). I don't think it was that he didn't remember, but that perhaps something really traumatic happened that year that he doesn't want to think about? Anxious to see where they're going with that. One of my favorite themes in both the fandom and the series is the topic of Cecil's childhood and teen years growing up in the town (especially anything about his friendship with Earl). Its often clouded in so much mystery, so I'm really glad we got more of a snippet into it. Their graduation party sounds so cute and fun (How does one tell dirty jokes about the moon, though? I know the fandom's gonna find a way, and I look forward to it!). Its good for Cecil to have another friend. Its normal and healthy for him to have friends, especially with Carlos being gone and Dana far more preoccupied than before. The whole segment was just a ton of fun to listen to! And I now crave poisonous tiramisu.

 

Also, continuity from Cassette! Cecil referencing the tapes, letting us know that he does remember what he heard and hasn't completely suppressed it! We also learned that his mother is indeed dead, and not just missing, at least as far as Cecil is concerned. The part about him wanting to speak to her and ask her about the confusing events on the tapes was so sweet, and the fact that he couldn't because the Homecoming was called off was extremely heartbreaking to me! At least he was able to go out and socialize with the townspeople and enjoy himself in the community, to feel a little less lonely while Carlos is away. 

 

I actually think the conversation with the non-existent football player wanting to be an artist really touching, even if he is simply a figment of our collective imaginations. And there's something I find extremely cute about a teenage citizen calling Cecil "Mr. Palmer" and "Sir."

 

Oh yeah, and that was the best Staples ad I've ever heard. I couldn't look at the store the same on the drive past it that evening...

 

So now begins their little hiatus for the month of November, and regular episodes will resume again December 1st. I'm totally fine with that. They deserve a break. But I am a bit curious what they mean by "bonus episodes" that will be released in November. What's the difference between the bonus eps and regular ones? Are they shorter? A different format? Different continuity? Highly illegal and pending approval from the City Council? I want answers, damn them!

 

Also, if you guys haven't yet heard the WTNV crossover with The Thrilling Adventure Hour, go hear it NOW! Its friggin' hilarious, which I welcomed with open arms given the serious, solemn tone in the recent mainstream episodes. Highly recommended.

Sorry to hear that. I often put off watching/hearing my favorite shows when I'm sick or depressed, too.

 

Night Vale's an exception, because I'm too ridiculously, obsessively invested in the story to just NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!!!

 

But there's a shitload of other stuff I gotta catch up on...eventually...
