Please don't throw things at me. To each his own. I think it's a good show in general. I'm just not a fan of dramatic stuff like that. The singing, I mostly enjoy. The storylines, not so much. I just can't connect with the characters, and I think that's the goal - so many personalities, you're bound to feel for one of them...but I don't. The one I most connect with is OCD guidance counselor, lol, but even she bothers me at times. The other characters REALLY bother me. I don't actually like any of them - which is the mark of good acting, to be sure. But unfortunately, it leaves me not rooting for anyone.
I never got into any of those teen drama shows back as a teen, so I guess it's no surprise I'm not into them now that I'm not even of the target age group, hah. But I still had hopes because it was so popular and advertised as a comedy/musical - but it isn't really either of those. At least, how I'd define comedy or musical. Yes, there is singing, but a lot of the time it has nothing to do with the plot or the emotions. And when it DOES have to do with the emotions it sits awkwardly, at least in my opinion, because the other songs don't and suddenly I'm expected to feel for this particular song.
Sorry, Glee fans. =/ I really tried to get into it, but I think I'm gonna have to call it quits unless someone can provide a great reason for me to keep watching past the middle of Season 1. Even the promise of Darren Criss isn't enticing me at this point. I want to punch basically all the characters and I don't really give a damn what happens to them in the future because they all have it coming, if their lives don't turn out well.
Moral of the story: Tooooooo much drama for Katie.
I'll end my rant now. I know this won't be a popular post in this topic. Like I said, the show is pretty good, it's just not my taste in entertainment (and I had so many people tell me I would enjoy it, that I'm kind of upset how it turned out).

The only storyline I think might intrigue you is Kurt's in season 2 (bullying because of sexuality), but it's fairly emotional. Oh, and there's one episode covering religion. I know your stance on teen drama isn't positive, but if you want to feel for a character, those are the episodes to watch-- as far as connection goes, it all depends on your experiences and how much you can relate to the situations the show poses for the audience.
IN CONCLUSION: no big deal, bro.
P.S. Yes, the characters can come off as melodramatic or annoying, but that's because they're purposely portrayed in a farcical/exaggerated nature (Sue and Rachel especially). But as you said, it's truly up to the taste of the viewer; whether they enjoy what's put before them is their decision.

It's so true that everything just depends on the viewer. I'm going to see if taking a long break from watching will allow me to go back to it later and handle it again. But yeah, there's a lot of...awkward drama. =/
The non-connection I get isn't quite from the situations the characters get into, it's more of how they react to those situations. I can relate to the feelings of being different or excluded, but I can't relate to how the characters go about dealing with those things. It's very different than how I dealt with stuff, and their way generally results in bad things happening on the show, hah. Hence wanting to punch them.
Funnily enough, Sue didn't bother me BECAUSE she was so exaggerated. I could handle that. She might be my favorite of the lot, lol. Actually, the adult that annoyed me the most is Mr. Shuester. As for the students, Rachel was annoying but again, I didn't mind that, lol. I enjoy exaggeration. The other glee clubbers bothered me more than her most of the time.
I am curious, though, as to who's everyone's favorite character? Mine is probably Sue.

And now that you mention the WAY characters handle situations, I can agree on one level: it's WEIRD. In some aspects, I see the writers wanting to come up with abstract reasons for character behavior in order to make things more interesting, but yes, the way the Glee characters go about the situations they're placed into can be downright irrational or out of place LOL (i.e. Mr. Schuester's wife). Sometimes it's amusing, but occasionally you lift your eyebrows in disdain and think, "Really??"
Hahaha. XD Thanks for clarifying your views on exaggeration. I know that the ridiculousness of characters like Rachel have put some viewers off, so I thought maybe you were referencing her persona. But yes, Sue is awesome. Her quips never fail to delight.
My favorite character, as you can probably guess from my icon, is Kurt because he's just so... lady-fabulous. Lmao. I was happy when they developed him more in the final 9 episodes of season 1 (the episode "Theatricality," for example), and decided to make his storyline a major arc in season 2... as dramatic as it is.
Sue and Finn tie for a close second because they have some of the most HILARIOUS moments on the show.
I must admit, however, that Puck, Santana, and Brittany have excellent one-liners.
Now I'm rambling. Gah, sorry. >.<;

Personally my favorite character is Mercedes. I was the white version of her in high school, with the gay best friend.

Yes, bashing without watching is annoying for ANY t.v. show.
Favorite character? Kurt. Chris Colfer has an amazing voice and every time he opens his mouth I get goosebumps. I cried when he transferred last week... Of course, we'll still see him but it was still sad! I LOVED his rendetition of Don't Cry for Me Argentina. Beautiful and moving, completely breathtaking. He astounds me more every time I hear his voice.
I couldn't believe what happened this week with Emma! WHOA!!!!! And Finn/ Rachel... it made me sad.
