Once TOSOT ends, what fanfic do you think will follow in TOSOT's footsteps?
I don't really think any fanfic will. TOSOT was kind of a phenomenon unto itself. There may be other popular fanfics, but I'm not sure any will reach TOSOT fame levels on IDOJ. Face it, IDOJ is as much a JN fanpage as a TOSOT fanpage these days. When JN ended no one expected something to rise to replace it, so I doubt TOSOT will have something like that, either. *shrugs* Just my thoughts. Again, there can be many other popular fanfics in the future, I'm sure. Just not like TOSOT.
Mara didn't start writing TOSOT imagining it would get this huge. The best obsessions come out of nowhere. So for any fanfic to step up and go "I WILL BE THE NEXT TOSOT" automatically means it won't be. An author can't just casually expect certain fame or else it sort of ruins the fun. And if anyone here on IDOJ picks a fanfic they like reading and says "THIS ONE WILL BE THE NEXT TOSOT", suddenly it won't be. Because then it is expected and again, sort of ruins the surprisingly rising popularity of any one fic, creating instead an atmosphere where people are demanding too much of an author.
It'd be like a publisher picking an author at random and saying "YOU RIGHT THERE. WRITE SOMETHING MORE POPULAR THAN HARRY POTTER. I WANT IT ON MY DESK IN SIX MONTHS. BTW, I'M GOING TO ADVERTISE TO THE ENTIRE WORLD THAT YOUR BOOK WILL BE MORE POPULAR THAN HARRY POTTER BEFORE YOU EVER EVEN GET CLOSE TO FINISHING WRITING IT, SO NO PRESSURE OR ANYTHING."
So yes, lol. Those are my thoughts. Popularity is very hard to predict, and in my opinion, should not attempt to be predicted (unless of course you are in the marketing business, where that is your job.
