I voted "Maybe." I love JC, but teh gushiness....gets a bit out of hand if not written well.

That's actually somewhat hard for me...I have to watch some of the early episodes in order to get Stranded out of my mind before I write any J/C. :rolleyes:I love JC, but teh gushiness....gets a bit out of hand if not written well.

I've disliked J/C before I got into the whole fandom thing. Anytime things get overly sentimental or mushy, I change the channel. Simple as that. I cannot watch Stranded under any circumstances (...partly because of the spider...).
Yes, it does bug me that people love it, but it also bugs me in itself. My extreme loathing of Cindy as a character makes me hesitant to accept any pairing in which she is involved, especially J/C, which presumably fuels a part of my hatred for her.
I'd also like to throw out there that while I can tolerate S/L, I sure as heck do not enjoy it.
And I do agree that if it was a side pairing, it wouldn't be so hyped up. Unfortunately, that is not the case, and therefore in reality, it IS overrated.
I personally don't think the word "overrated" really expresses what J/C means to me ("annoying", "meaningless", and "destructive to the show" will do). But it is overrated in the sense of people liking it simply because it is canon, which is unimaginative and really just makes you look like a child.
However, some people really do like J/C for the idea of it and I can respect that.

I feel like Cindy's character could have been a lot, lot better. She's just TOO mean and spiteful in my opinion. The competition / fire between them is great, but it too often crosses into mean-spirited territory, where it stops being interesting and starts being painful to watch. Cindy would be SO much more interesting if they played up her internal conflict and intelligence a bit and made her more competitive and less nasty. Sarcasm, wit, and a bit of playful teasing would have been a lot more effective than vindictiveness.
I think most people who are Cindy fans are fans of how they'd LIKE her to be, as opposed to how she actually behaves for a good sized portion of the show. I mean, unlike Helga in Hey Arnold (who is a poet at heart and actually LOVES Arnold but just pretends otherwise, and who underneath would do anything for him), Cindy ACTUALLY HATES Jimmy. It might even have been OK if Jimmy shared her level of hatred - but as the relationship stands, she basically ends up as an antagonist. But she's not fully allowed to be a villain, since she's one of the main 5, so you get this weird conflict going on.
She should have either been nicer (not sappy nice, just less vicious), or a villain. THEN the romance would work. (I personally find protagonist - antagonist romances to be hot, but that's beside the point)

Cause this conversations is making me think about my treatment of this ship. Aparently I do well with S/L (Pig ;) ) though.

On the other hand, J/C is the best! They are really meant for each other! It is so cute how they share their love for each other. One minute they're figting, the next they're holding hands and flirting.
It all just depends how someone writes about it and what the person thinks.

I have never been a shipper, and most likely never will be--I am indifferent to ships, usually. J/C, though, really... really irks me, to the point of downright hate. The prime reason is because it's shoved in my face everywhere, which just fuels my original dislike for it. (But then, that's the case with most fandoms; there's always at least one pairing you can't get away from, that outweighs everything else, and that's usually what results in my giving up on the fandom and leaving it entirely.)
The actual pairing, too, makes me squirm. I've never liked mushy stuff, but while S/L gets by me alright J/C makes me want to FIRE MAH LAZ0R BAAAAARGH because it goes over the top even in the show, and I simply don't like the relationship between the two of them for the reasons Mara described. Love/hate has always bothered me, especially when it's executed in a way that is total mindfuck. D: And, like Gwen, I personally dislike Cindy, both because she's so mean and so very prideful. I don't see anything between her and Jimmy really clicking--and while I'd be more than happy to accept the pairing as a silly childhood crush/romance, both the show and fans and fanfiction everywhere have portrayed it as being something much more.
They're eleven. How many people do you know who're married to people they crushed on at that age? D8
</end Wizrant>
On the other hand, however, Mara does a very good job of turning the ship into what it ought to be. 8) That's some spectacularly well-done love/hate right there. Especially since it has a reason.

Ok, just... WOW. I actually had a hard time deciding which quote to use, - yours, Mara's or Gwen's, they were all SO something I would say, but could never type out just right. (do you still go by Hugh, or some other nickname? its been awhile so I'm just checking to be safe ^^)I agree with the Gwen and the Mara. >8U

With the exception of the "have never been a shipper" part, (anyone who knows even just my YouTube account, -let alone myself- would roll their eyes & say "yeah, right!" if I didn't clarify this XD) I have to agree 100% here.
I am perfectly willing to respect & get along with any J/C fan out there, & although I'm an alternate Jimmy shipper, (namely one of J/C's biggest shipping rivals to date) I'm more "ugh, not J/C again!" than I am "pro-J/someone else".
For one, I just don't have that many options on fan-works for mine, but J/B is besides the main point here. Its Cindy & her J/C ship we're talking about.
Yep, of course I think its overrated, I've always thought this ever since I stepped foot into this fandom. Not so much the ship itself, (ok, SOME) as it is the fandom.
While I can picture J/C as perfectly good, even great friends for one another, I just CAN'T see them as a sappy, lovey-mushy overly-cute couple.
I've never liked Cindy that great either, but she had grown on me for awhile. Then I rewatched most of the show & well.. I'm as the majority of you know me today. Mara described my thoughts on her character position in the show perfectly, Gwen took care of my general dislike of Cindy & the J/C as a couple in itself, (but somewhat less erm.. rough about this thing, to avoid offense in J/Cers) & all three of you handled my view on the fandom of the couple.
Plus, I share identical feelings with Wizard about love/hate relationships of any kind. I just could never like them, very, VERY few ever manage to come into my shipping world. I can even name those few right here -
Rika/Ryo - Digimon Tamers, Season 3
Mr. Blik/Katilda - Catscratch
& one more than escapes my mind at the moment, but I'm sure I've mentioned it elsewhere. XD
& let's never forget, Jimmy has ALWAYS been my favorite character in this show, & since I got into the series BEFORE getting into supporting couples (yes, there was such a time! XD), this doesn't really help my ability to er, "enjoy" this well.. couple. XD (no offense!! ^^; )

Now THIS is proving to be a BIG challenge for me!
I offically declare a friendly challenge that Cindy CAN be nice, competivite, smart and all those things while transforming her hateful, egotistical pride into all those things you all just said.
I Firmly believe that there's MORE to her than the show made her out to be!! And I intend to show you all that!
I DARE ALL OF YOU!!! HUZZAH!!!

Now, Pedro, I never said Cindy wasn't smart or anything. It's just that she's also a jerk with a large ego. 8B I'm not saying she's a two-dimensional character, either; she's certainly got her pluses, and there's more to her than just being mean. I just don't think she works with Jimmy. Their romance would be okay as a childish hate-to-hide sort of thing, but it's been blown to epic proportions which I think do not fit him or her. I can't see it as ever going beyond that stage even though it's implied and shoved at me from all directions.
And I simply don't like her. You won't be able to change that no matter how much you argue, I'm afraid.
I don't like J/C. That's the end of it.

I must admit I somewhat like J/C and I like Cindy. coughAURORA<3!11!1!
I do enjoy it, even in stranded, but, I must also agree with some of the points made here. They both tend to be rather violent and very much prideful. It isn't my fave pairing ever. Recently I even have thoughts that may be they can't actually get along well and they don't fit for each other. The whole thing seems too much made up. They look at each other as at rivals and Jimmy is disgusted to kiss Cindy, while Cindy cares only about her career. Then, poof, and they make goo-goo eyes to each other. (or how is it written there) I like Stranded because it seems like they are trying to actually love and get closer, at least from Cindy's side. I don't like WLK so much because they, mostly Jimmy, are jerks to each other and the whole love thing seems unnatural. Seeing Cindy jealous and almost happened catfight was fun, though. They could be friends, but, there could be romance overload. May be Jimmy would be better with Betty and Cindy with some other nicer guy.
I like Cindy's character. Well, DUH! (what means "yes" in Russian). I like that type of girls, but, there again were made a few good points that she is too prideful and plain mean in the show. But, I really enjoy a good portion of strong will and sarcasm. The only thing I can wish, it's that it was more playful and less prideful, like it was mentioned.
Completely agree with Mara. a really good female character of that type is Helga G Pataki. She and has all her wits and charm, and really loves Arnold.

And, mercy me, if you don't mind my saying so, you're truly making a bit of a big deal out of nothing. The majority of the population here at IDOJ consists of J/C shippers, so I see no reason for you to feel uneasy around the few of us who don't care about the pairing. We're the minority; we're not allowed to state our own opinions because it makes a few J/Cers feel bad by, heaven forbid, keeping all of the fandom from agreeing with them 100% about everything? ;) Not to mention you do us a great injustice by implying that we 'war' over such a juvenile topic to such an extent that you felt uneasy about joining the boards. I've only seen this sort of argument brought up before once or twice.
People have opinions besides yours; please learn to deal with this. And I'd like to beg to differ considering your statement on loathing/hating characters or ships.... x) I am an obsessive roleplayer, and hating fictional things is very, very possible. (Like the Ancient Wyrm red dragon that lays waste to your own character in the span of half a turn... yuuuuurgh)
