I'd like to start using this topic a little bit more...

So, the mainsite. I think I need to find a new host, but to be honest, I'm not sure I can afford to keep paying. There's a part of me that wants to shut down the mainsite, because I haven't done any actual WORK on it in forever, but there's another part of me that feels like I'd be taking away the last place on the net you can find JN eps and all things JN-related.

Thoughts? If I do choose to renew IDOJ, this will be the last year that I run the site. I promised 4 years ago that I would keep the mainsite open until I graduated college, and that's happening in May. (This doesn't mean I will shut down the forums, of course).

What?! Are you KIDDING me?!! I'm still downloading eps! And, heck, this is the one website I love everything about!! I say keep it, as long as you can find a new sponsor for it, cuz I LOVE it and don't wanna see one BIT of it die!!

I vote on keeping it as long as possible. I know it isn't used nearly as often as it once was, but there are still a lot of people who love the nice collection of fanart, banners, fanfiction, etc. And, I would definitely put up any of the money to keep the mainsite open. That's no problem at all. But, if you think it'd be a wasted cause, do what you think is best.

I think we mostly just don't talk about and use the mainsite as often because 1) We're extremely busy, and the free time we DO have we'd rather use spending time with our friends on the forums, and 2) We've already seen everything there is there years ago, and don't have much time to create anything specially new. But, there's plenty of new generation fans who'd probably appreciate its existence, even if its rarely updated.

I've seen many fansites go down in my lifetime, I was a member of two Powerpuff Girls fansites back when that show was huge. Those sites, PpGWorld and Powerpuff.Com were major game players. They lasted until PpGWorld went belly up in 2004. Powerpuff.com lasted a long time before it got deactivated for good sometime in 2009.

I don't want this site to die, due to the fact that people download eps from here.

Mara, I agree with Athena. I know before I joined, it was nice to know there was a place to read fanfics and see artwork if you don't know about sites like Fanfic.net and deviantart that is.

Anyway, it is essentially up to you, but it would be sad to see the pretty mainsite go away....

Please explain a bit more what that means. Is it a money issue? Does Mara not want to admin the main site anymore? Or what does that mean?

Yesh, funding means money, and with college and everything being so busy in her life, she doesn't have much money to spare. But I think we should try to keep the mainsite up and running, cuz a lot of fans out there still want to read TOSOT and download eps, not to mention use the available banners and avatars on it, as well. The mainsite rocks JUST as hard as the forums do!
