Yup. College works like that. 2 sets of midterms and 2 sets of finals over the year.

How do you LIVE? We just have midterms in January and finals in June!

In high school, that's normally when midterms and finals are. At the high school I went to, the first three years I was there they had midterms after the Winter break and then at the end of the year (around May). And then my last year, our school changed it to having midterms before Winter break (but left the finals at the end of the year the same).

College, however, is different. College students typically take 4 to 5 classes a semester (they pick the schedules). You have general requirements that all students take (although there is a choice of some classes in some categories of gen ed), and then once you are done with those, you have a choice as to what major you would like (based on what career you would like to pursue).

These classes only last about 15 weeks, and then you pick out new classes for the second half of the school year, which is why finals are typically before Winter Break. Once Winter Break is over, you start new classes for the new semester. Then finals for those classes will commence around April or May (some schedules will vary based on when the semester starts).


I know from when I was in college how stressful finals can be...and when I was finished with them, it was always a huge relief for me. Let's all hang in there! Once finals are over, Mara will be back on the boards a little bit more often. For now, though, let's wish her luck and think positive thoughts. :)
