Good point, Sunny, and there are a lot of good reasons to support the...um..."Nav-death Theory", but I'm not sure. I mean, so many people have been talking about it and saying how it should happen, given the storyline, but isn't Mara's whole objective to SURPRISE? She doesn't want TOSOT to be predictable and unoriginal, that's for sure! Suspense and plot twists are what she does. I'm still waiting for her to throw us something HUGE and unexpected.

Sooo...yeah. There's still hope for Nav. Don't totally give up on him! ):

My and Pig's conversation on AIM brought to life a very interesting topic about the true complexity and deepness of Nav's fascinating personality. I'm sure, even Mara may find something interesting in these thoughts. After all, Nav was just a minor character without a big role before Rach, Pig and the other strawberry lovers appeared on IDOJ. OK, that sounded dirty.

The main idea popped out in the conversation between me and Pig. We were discussing Nav, and I mentioned that Nav has much more than we can see on the surface; he also wears a mask, like AURORA. That led to this whole analysis. Everybody tends to see him as an extremely funny and very cheerful guy, outspoken and friendly: Sheen's big brother and Mara's hero fighting for the better future for his sister. And, of course, everybody considers him a vicious womanizer, a true ladies man. Well, since, obviously, none of us has issues there, let's talk about Nav's other, more hidden sides.

Let's begin with what is mostly left in the background. Nav's life, first, is a life of one of the most famous people in the Galaxy: he deals with Galactic level crime, business, wars and politics. It isn't simple, as it may look from his behavior, and, second, it isn't, so to say, very nice. Whoever dealt with such things knows that it's very unlikely to find anything honest and human there at all. He steals as much as he can and he has an unbelievable talent at it. But, this stealing is somewhat-justified by his goal to liberate his planet and make it a good place for his sister to live. Plus, there is the rampaging war against the Dictator, or rather attempts to stop him. All this sets a very stressful environment where, if you are not a complete, brutal criminal, you mostly only fight and try to survive. Hopes for the better future are illusory and mostly you hope to avoid the worst.
I think that he is traumatized by his life too, just not as severely as Aurora. All he can do is try to do his best for those he loves and preserve his sanity. Using Nav's words, Nav and Aurora are "the incredibly caring and warm individuals" who stuck among nasty surroundings.
I'm sure that a good, exciting book could be written about his adventures. No, I don't suggest you do it, Mara. But, the point is, Nav is interesting not only because of strawberries. Uh, that sounded dirty again.

One more thing that makes him in fact a tragic character - his mixed feelings to April and Aurora. As Mara pointed out, in spite of all his relations with April, he has a secret desire - Aurora. He and Aurora didn't have anything except purely friendly relations after the well known punch in the face. Nav and April are going to marry each other, but, somewhere in Nav's subconsciousness and, probably, in his consciousness as well, he still sees April more as his friend and Aurora as a possible object of his love. I'll take a guess here and say that April is a very good, close battle buddy for him (who also likes to play certain little dirty games with him), but nothing more. Allow me, please, to analyze a bit if Nav's feelings there. Being tired of all this fighting and cruelties, he wants to have relations with a kind woman; he wants strong love and a strong individual with that love. At first glance Aurora may seem nothing like that; but, only at the first. Besides all of her very attractive feminine traits, she is a person fighting with the most powerful evil, the Dictator. She is a hero and truly and seriously cares about her friends when it comes to serious life questions. Moreover, she has the most severe trauma that we can imagine: she messed up and unintentionally turned her love into evil which destroyed not only her life and left her with nothing, but destroyed all her homeworld, her planet. It makes Nav, who had a very bad experience with his own planet, feel sorry for her and desperately want to help her restore her life too. They all are desperados and they all are in the survival mode. I think that Nav sees April more as a friend and would want to see Aurora as someone with whom he could have more serious relations.
It's a rather sad situation. It's unlikely that there will be a happy ending, especially for Nav. But, I'm sure about one thing, when it comes to the battle and his friends' needs, Nav will do everything he can for them.

Nav wears his own mask. He hides his own problems, suffering, and hard life under an image of an always-happy and harmless guy. He hides his bitterness and pain under this mask, which serves him quite well when he needs to defend himself from a very cruel world around him. He can hide under it or use it to distract enemies. Sometimes this prominent charisma is his sincere way to express his true suppressed nature of a nice and friendly guy.
It may be fun to go strawberries about NAV, but it's definitely not easy to be Nav. Probably only people who wear such masks themselves can notice and understand him and Aurora.

We can only wonder where all this will end in Mara's fantabulous creation - TOSOT.

As I said in our PM, Flank, that is one of the best character analyses I have ever read.

The only thing you didn't really touch upon is Nav's inner anger. I think Nav has a lot of frustration inside about the world and the way it works. I wouldn't describe it so much as "hurt" and "pain" as much as deep anger.

As for the rest, you really got Nav to a T. He's a very complicated character hidden behind a veil of simplicity. Once I finish TOSOT, I might consider using his character in something else.

Vicious womanizer. He. Hehe.

May I join this club? I haven't been a fan of Nav till lately, but reading what you think of him, how he is, his inner 'conflicts' and in total reading Flank's analysis I grew to really like him very much^^ He's a very cool person (character) and an amazingly interesting one as well! So...is it possible for me to join??

Thank you, thank you, guys!

Woo, hoo! We have more fans!

Pig, I tried my best to please you, Nav lovers. I don't disagree with you, of course, Nav loves April. He IS a vicious womanizer, he can love a few girls at once. OK, more seriously, April for him is his life at war, they are friends and it's great, but, he also loves AURORA, she represents for him a normal life with true love and without violence. May be AURORA doesn't exactly look like that, but, she is an alien in this world of war and destruction. That's why Nav has and will have very, very deep and strong feelings for her.

Mara, thank you. Yes, this is a flaw in my analysis, I didn't notice his anger. It is a one more important and tragic detail of his life, it shows his frustration and disappointment with this world. I think, you can describe it better than me. May be you can even do it as your contribution for the club?
