Katie said that DJ is in some way like very young Jimmy now.

Rach, how does exactly Megalomanium affect a person?

No, Katie didn't say that at all; I think you missed her point. She meant that DJ is NOT a completely different person. His personality may have been slightly altered because of the Megalomanium, but he is still JIMMY. It cannot completely steal away who he is, deep down inside. Because, ultimately, if an antidote were to be given to him, he would become Jimmy once again. A very traumatized Jimmy, but Jimmy nonetheless...proving Jimmy was always there, somewhere deep down and almost entirely hidden away.

Megalomanium, according to The Tomorrow Boys, makes someone mad with power. Obviously, they are nearly completely controlled by it. The aspects of their personality are distorted in their lust for power. Libby still loved music, but she was power-hungry and cold-hearted toward others in that lust for power. Hence Jimmy is still in love with science and still experiments to satisfy his curiosity, but now with virtually no moral boundaries, because those are consumed in his lust for power.

Thanks, Rach. ^_^ I didn't know how to respond to that part properly, lol.

almost entirely hidden away.

That are the right words. The everything else in Jimmy is inhuman Megalomanium.

And, as a long term effect, after devaluating everything, life just becomes just something hostile to him, it's bothering him. He'd doesn't love anything and, therefore, everything shoving signs of life must be destroyed. He wants everything for himself, but, he is nothing inside himself, therefore, he is like a black hole only destroys everything.

Lets say that DJ differs from Dictator Libby that he is an ultimate case.

Katie, I'd suggest you to think about it without lols, nevertheless.

I'm a little confused as to how not loving anything makes a person want to destroy everything.

Like I said earlier, if DJ wanted to destroy everything, he would have done it by now. Magnificently, I might add. B)

How? He not just doesn't love. He didn't loose his life and energy, Megalomanium also still affects him. He exists and this existence with another beings makes him suffer and want to eleminate all around, at least spiritualy. He is completely destroyed inside, any life that he meets in some deep sense causes a disturbance in his state of mind. He just wants to bring it all to zero.

The point is not simple physical destruction, but, spiritual as well. He destroys what he can, uses some to expand his power and for everybody left alive he establishes the worst abusive dictatorship, which, in facts, also destroys people's lives.

Very soon after being exposed to Megalomanium, he killed almost everyone on the Earth to make Cindy suffer. Which kind of experiment is that? It shows how he kills most to leave a few left to suffer as much as possible.

ALL ABOUT DJ

You guys made some really interesting points about DJ, and your speculations were for the most part pretty spot-on.

This is suuuuuch an interesting discussion, and I have the PERFECT answer and explanation (all typed out even!), but I can't post it because it comes from a few chapters down the road and it'll spoil a big section of the ending. GAH! I need to finish this stupid story! I'm still trying to bridge the gap between what I've written and where I left off -sigh- But I'm so damn close! STUPID RESEARCH PROJECT **shakes fist at the universe**

Anyway, a word on each of your analyses and questions.

@Flank: I think you are a little bit confused about the nature of the megalomanium. As a biochemical agent, it altered Jimmy's brain chemistry and part of his physiology. It did not, however, rob him of a soul. Over time, as he committed atrocities, he may have indeed become dehumanized, but it was the result of his own actions, not a product of the substance itself.

DJ's goal is NOT destruction - he certainly could have achieved that by now if it were. He is fueled by a lust for power and control. DJ is cold and removes himself from people by objectifying them - with objectification including a denial of subjectivity, denial of autonomy, and a sense of ownership, instrumentality, fungibility, and violability. When you objectify something, you gain dominance over it in all those ways. It's a huge power trip, and it has the added bonus of erasing any moral guilt, since hey, it's just an object. His interactions with Aurora are about their power dynamic. DJ has a hard time objectifying Aurora, so when he does, it's especially gratifying.

@Katie: I think you're right about DJ's underlying curiousity and scientific drive. That part of his personality, along with his extreme intelligence, certainly remains. However, he now has no moral qualms or a system of "moral-checks-and-balances" to keep him from pursuing unethical experiments. He has lost all sense of empathy for others - they are just objects to control. Everything is about pursuing power; his experiments are for the ultimate purpose of self-benefit.

@Rachel: Yes, the real Jimmy is still inside there somewhere. Otherwise the antidote would be pointless

...crap, I've got to go to a lecture on globalization. Be back on later. I have a bunch more I want to say!

Yep! No ethics for me! B)

-Uh oh, sorry guys...DJ is getting harder and harder to control in my posti-

Ethics are a societal construct, in any case. They exist to maintain order. Morals are nothing more than barriers we have placed upon ourselves. The megalomanium has helped me to see past those barriers. It is simple, really.

They are useful in keeping the masses under control, though. I'll give morals credit there.

DJ out.

Very interesting Mara. I am a bit confused, because a long time ago you said that I analyzed DJ in my writings well. Otherwise, I'd stick to Katie's opinion.

I meant that about dehumanization. I meant that he is almost completely dehumanized, devaluating in facts a lot. I was wrong about hating part. So, since I was wrong the previous time, I'll keep in mind DJ's thoughts and intentions.

Aurora is a personal challenge for DJ after all. Somebody who he needs to objectify to get unlimited power. She, seems, still bugs him on a personal level a lot.

Oh, I have another question, this time to Aurora!

Aurora, how do you feel when you see Jimmy and Cindy so obviously flirting with each other? I mean, everyone notice that they like each other. How do you feel about that? Do you have some feelings like that towards DJ? [like I didn't know the truth xD] Please, be honest, no irony! hahaha ;)

HAHAHAHAHA

LOL, I'd love to see you try, Mara. It's a rare, rare thing for me to fangirl over anyone. Some might argue that I've never truly fangirled at all. It would be pretty epic if you managed that.

Helpful hint: "Hotness" never factors into my attraction or lack of it to any particular character (or real life person). I know, I'm weird. Lol. I'm used to it.

*snaps fingers* How ironic!

If we were ever to have a play based on TOSOT, I think Flank would most definetly be our DJ. XD

Thanks, I guess, I could play DJ. Except of the kissing part, of course.

Otherwise, I'd like to be Nav and be hit by AURORA.
