I meant Ancient Egypt when I said 3000 years. But what happened when the Roman Empire collapsed? Humanity bombed itself to a more primitive state by enacting the practice of feudalism and creating the system of the manor. Ignorance abounded. No progress was made in terms of technology and learning. While those reasons for the Roman Empire's collapse are certainly agreeable, you'll discover that it is very hard to maintain and empire when you are afflicted with symptoms of lead poison...

Guess how long those civilizations lasted. 3000 years yes, but they eventually collapsed. Rome collapsed in part because of lead poisoning.

Rome fell because 1) it overstretched itself, putting undue stress on its populace, its military and its resources, and 2) because of rampant governmental corruption.

And of COURSE you don't see any "Ancient Civilizations" around today. ALL civilizations/cultures rise and then fall. But there's a lot of continuity as well; the Classical World continues to have a massive effect on our modern Western world.

The middle ages were a time when humanity bombed itself into a more primitive state in terms of knowledge and technological advancement. I wouldn't want to live in that time period.
