Cameron's 2021 JN Rewatch
Posted 18 July 2021 - 10:24 AM
1:39 - Literally Jimmy's first lines are dissing the military's jets
2:14 - Son, can you please stop yeeting our toasters into space
4:30 - I wonder how much the Neutron's insurance costs
5:15 - Usually your parents telling you not to talk to strangers is so you don't get kidnapped, but Jimmy talking to strangers instead ends up getting his parents kidnapped.
6:40 - His rocket wasn't able to defy gravity, but his hair sure can.
8:04 - I completely forgot about this different version of the theme song.
9:32 - Jimmy and Cindy not only stay up to date with current paleontological findings, but they also have Opinions about them. Meanwhile when I was twelve, I was like "I know all the pokemon".
10:25 - Frog!
10:34 - I vaguely remember some future episode where Jimmy sucked at doing art, but at least right now the boy can draw.
11:43 - Cindy has zero shame.
11:52 - I'm trying to evaluate the math on the board but it doesn't seem to to mean anything. It's just a bunch of random math symbols chucked together. They didn't even bother to define the variable they are using as the upper bound for their summation.
12:30 - Can you stop roasting Jimmy for five minutes.
14:55 - Considering Jimmy's plan didn't work, it may have been equally effective to use actual bananas.
16:24 - This is so sad; Vox play Despacito
17:02 - It's not a bug; It's a feature.
18:48 - Ah yes, such a timely referenced song for all the hip kids of 2001.
18:57 - "Sorry about your bajeebers"
21:40 - Goobot introduction has him in a spinning chair stroking a cat-type thing, just in case you didn't get he was the villain yet.
21:44 - Update: Cat has been eaten.
22:10 - The best character in the movie has arrived.
22:55 - Why would Goobot even know what toast is? He should be asking it where its leader is as well.
23:11 - The first thing Jimmy does upon contacting an advanced alien species is to give the vulcan salute, as ya do.
23:38 - Jimmy just pointed at his parents in the wrong order when describing this image.
24:05 - "If all your friends were named Cliff, would you jump off them?" Hugh is a little confused, but he's got the spirit.
24:59 - Goddard be horny, apparently.
28:48 - The llama seems unimpressed with the situation.
31:14 - Is the reason the Yolkians are only taking the adults is they want to have a sustainable farming effort, or because they think the kids are gross like those crunchy chunks of fries you sometimes find at the bottom of the container .
33:03 - I don't know what's weirder, if the Yolkians decided to fill the fridge for some reason, or if Jimmy's parents already had that many eggs. Neither of them make a ton of sense.
33:15 - This must be a ruse. No one goes to Florida willingly.
34:12 - "I'm peeing! In the shower!" Top notch priorities that Sheen has.
35:17 - That means she can measure the angle between things. Then you'll be finished.
38:21 - Goddard believes he's fabulous and he's absolutely right.
40:03 - Yes, but "nauseous mob" doesn't have the same rhythm to it.
40:45 - Jimmy just making up numbers at this point. The furthest star I could find there was 4000 lightyears away, which is a little bit less than his 3 million.
41:05 - Never argue with the data.
42:49 - A little is still more than an acceptable amount of blowing up to do.
45:20 - Oh no, they caught eyes with each other. This must be the "ship" that Ooblar greatly admires.
45:51 - I'm going to bet Nick gave him the toothpaste as some sort of prank, but Carl just rolls with it anyway.
48:05 - Even in the middle of a desperate mission to save their parents, there is always time for another short joke.
48:30 - Jimmy was only liking girls "hypothetically"
51:00 - I do like movies where the soundtrack doesn't quite line up with what's going on. The movie looks like the future but sounds like the 90s.
52:33 - "Your dad is a crazy mind-controlled duck man" And only one of those things is the Yolkians’ fault.
55:05 - Goobot was correct; Goddard is funny.
57:30 - I think we can conclude that Cindy is infinitely better at giving pep talks than Carl “Some inventors probably started out as complete hopeless failures" Wheezer
58:55 - It's not enough for Goddard to just draw a silly face on Ooblar's tank, but he also has to hold us a mirror so Ooblar could see how stupid he looks. Goddard is very funny.
1:00:20 - It's not a bug. It's a feature.
1:02:32 - No amount of mind control could possibly take the rhythm from Mr. Wheezer.
1:03:15 - I completely forgot how important a character Nick was in the movie.
1:03:34 - We like to call that maneuver a "strategic withdrawal"
1:06:38 - Carl is ready to relieve some symptoms of asthma and bronchitis.
1:07:14 - Jimmy didn't have to taunt Goobot on the way out, but what else do we expect by this point.
1:08:03 - I'm sure they are glad to have paid extra for front row seats to poultra's cheeks.
1:10:30 - Goobot is going to lose this because he accidentally made a Jimmy is short joke.
1:10:47 - This is false advertising. Goddard is a good boy.
1:13:34 - Did the Yolkians only attack Retroville for some reason, or did we leave Poultra many other snacks?
1:14:30 - This is the downside of putting your branding on everything. People know who to blame.
Well anyway, I got to admit... that was pretty neat.

Next up When Pants Attack
If "catastrophic" is in the invention title, you're not allowed to be surprised about the outcome.
Carl be like:
This man has more pants than there are elements in the universe. I wonder where all his shirts go, unless they're just waiting for their turn to attack.
Jimmy understands the importance of not missing out on the latest memes.
Me: I can't wait until the future where we have flying cars.
The Future: Your pants now require software updates.
Carl is pretty much just this:
FoOOoldinG aNd hAaaNgING
Palpatine: And my plan would have worked too, if it weren't for Luke remembering to pick up his pants
"You are one obsessed chick"
Is she ever wrong?
Sheen this is the... *checks notes* …8th week in a row...
Carl is somehow the most fabulous character in the show, even more than Jimmy's fabulous dog, Goddard.
It only exploded after landing this time. That's what I call improvement!
"I sense a disturbance in my pants"
Perfectly normal things to say in school
Always make sure to have a parachute on hand while wearing pants, in case they start disobeying the laws of gravity.
Carl is impressed by Cindy's intercontinental vision.
I'm Canadian, so trying to rock that style would be far too cold.
We don't have time to listen to Carl's marketing and economic theories.
Pants are pure evil, but no one thinks about the evil twins of socks that sneak away in the dryer cycle.
Wait, why are you running. Hugh is so stylish.
Ah yes, the perfect reference all the kids these days are sure to pick up on.
"So zip it!
This felt like a bit from an episode of Dora the Explorer.
Welp, when you've got nothing better to do...

Birth of a Salesman time
Looking at the title card, I guess the title is technically Birth of a $ale$man. Nifty
Never too early to have Jimmy roasting Cindy
We're probably still on page 2 of the screenplay and Cindy has already struck back. Record time.
Where's Carl's Tony nomination?
When Cindy was getting started on her girl scout rant, you can see Libby has this look that shows she's had to listen to this on more than one occasion.
Jimmy making a show of checking his none existent nails.
Forky the four-pronged eating implement is clearly the most important character in this episode.
That explains less than he thinks, but also more than he think in the wrong way.
See, Cindy is cool; Even her mirror reflection thinks so.
That only counts as "coherent" when compared to whatever the heck Hugh was doing.
No horses were harmed in the making of this episode.
Goddard's got a point there. Cindy can't kick your ass if you kick your own ass.
Jimmy: Being a salesman is shallow, unscrupulous behavior.
Also Jimmy: We got to get in on that, Goddard.
"because he is lame, and I am not"
Wow, such brilliant prose. She must have spend ages working on it.
Technically, Jimmy's rockets have always managed to land.
The amount of exploding they do at that time is something to work on though.
I wonder what Cindy has planned with Jimmy here
She seems like she would enjoy her plan more than the trip to Retroland.
And that's why Sheen has vowed to never read a book
"After making some creative adjustments in the final tally..."
The heck does that mean? Was this Ms. Fowl's master plan all along?
They really don't have to spend their time here together, but they plan to do so anyway, while complaining about it. Genius!
Anyway, that's it for this episode.
I'll leave you with what Carl says: Huzzah!

The place I'm watching them has them broken into separate videos. Looks like Normal Boy is the next one.

"They really don't have to spend their time here together, but they plan to do so anyway, while complaining about it. Genius!" The shade! (ALSO TRUTH).
I can just imagine them fighting over rides. What to eat and all that.
"I don't want to ride the OctoPuke again!"
"Well, I do."
"We've been on it three times already."
"It sounds like someone has a weak stomach."
"Excuse me? I have an iron stomach!"
"Then you'll ride with me!"
"UGH! Fine, let's go!"
"Shut your mouth and get in the darn line."

Johnny Waffle is as heroic as he is delicious.
Judy, under her breath: of course he found a way to overthink juice.
Welp, somebody call Bruce Willis.
Sheen is a man of science. He though pinching didn't hurt, but then acquired new evidence, or more accurately Carl acquired more evidence for him.
Don't tell Hugh that. Based on what we've seen so far, he'll start wearing a Hot Dog Holder Deluxe™ hat everywhere.
"No one go near Jimmy's head!" Yeah, or else they'll get caught in its gravitational orbit.
"The same dumbing-down technology used by top radio personalities" Dang, Jimmy has no chill; He didn't have to murder them like that.
Evidence is pointing to the fact that he is loopy.
Ms. Fowl seeing the meteor out the window: They don't pay me enough to deal with this.
Dumb Jimmy's plan be like:
To be happy he called you cute, or offended he has to be dumb for that to happen, that is the question.
"...don't come crying to me"
Cindy if this ever happens again:
Welp, if you can't beat em

No llamas were harmed in the making of this program, but we can't say the same for the host.
Is Sheen seriously playing on an original Gameboy advance outside? As someone whos done that before, I can tell ya, you can't see shit. They have no backlight.
He's not so desperate he'd hang out with Cindy... yet
That wipe transition feels very Windows Movie Maker
"Yeah, and maybe mutant tree frogs will rule the world"
Don't jinx it, or Jimmy will accidentally cause that someday.
Jimmy, calling the house: It's Jimmy.
Judy: What did he do this time?
Jimmy: No, it's Jimmy. It's actually me.
Judy: What did you do this time!?
Hugh, Probably: You see, when a boy duck meets a girl duck...
Jimmy narrating what he does is probably unnecessary with no one here, but maybe Goddard appreciates being kept up to date with happenings.
That bounce took about 14 seconds. The moon is an average of 384 Mm away from earth. That means Brobot was going about 54 Mm/s on average over the course of his journey, or about 18% the speed of light.
Most nerds know and accept that they are not very good at sports, but not Jimmy, who walks into and situation with an unreasonable amount of confidence.
Carl's hesitance here implies that yes indeed, some previous experiment of Jimmy's has in fact bitten Carl. Maybe the girl-eating plant had a misfire.
Brobot ships it.
This shows that all the nicknames that Hugh gives Jimmy are partially because he can barely remember Jimmy's name.
Jimmy installed a sleep mode on Goddard but forgot to do it for Brobot. He better do it soon before Brobot starts singing "Do you want to build a snowman?"
Same vibe as a thought I sometimes have when playing a new video game:
"I wonder if this game has falling damage"
"Yes, yes it does."
This is the opposite of how tears usually work in Disney movies.
If Goddard keeps pushing his luck, Jimmy is going to put him on the moon next.

The Big Pinch
The title just reminds me of:
I've spent far too long fact checking this scene. The question of who invented the radio could have several answers. Bezold was the first to make a device that could transmit radio waves, Hertz made the first device that could detect radio waves, Popov was the first to use that device for something (detecting lightning), and Marconi was indeed the first that used it for communication technology, in 1895, 25 years after Cindy's date.
As for electricity, it was being harnessed for like 50 years before Edison came along. He was just one of many dudes that researched electricity things. The main accomplishment associated with him is the lightbulb, not electricity.
Anyway, they are both wrong in the opposite directions, at least according to my like ~40 minutes of research on this.
For what great purpose was time travel invented? To gain the wisdom of the future? To study the secrets of our pasts? No, it was made to win an argument.
Come on, Jimmy. If you're going to rip a man out of his time period, then you could at least let him keep his iced tea. That's just basic decency.
More curious about whatever llama-related disaster Carl was discussing than the plot of this episode.
There's no way Cindy and Libby weren't spending the time Jimmy was getting Edison on anything other than figuring out how best to roast Jimmy when he got back.
Oh no, the jukebox disappeared. I guess we have to have Carl give a live performance of Folding and Hanging
"Winifred" in the background either doesn't know how to skate or is doing some elaborate interpretive dance.
"Change name and flee country? Possibly."
He's already got a fresh name picked out: Dave Proton. No one will no it's him for sure.
Jimmy programmed Goddard to bark at the doorbell, because it seemed like the right thing to do.
Not only does that poem offend me, but your metre is all over the place.
Even though Tesla is long dead by this point in time, Edison can't resist taking another crack at him.
Squirrel attacks are apparently your award for having such a ridiculous hairstyle.
These two would have to do the spiderman kiss in order to accommodate their humongous snoots.
Edison at least tries to prevent Jimmy's ego from getting any larger before he goes.
Carl: Oh good, they got us unstuck from the ceiling before the episode ended. I was worried we were going to get stuck here and lose our valuable screen time until someone remembered us.

"Oh, no you don't, Mr. Muscles. If you hurt your back lifting those, you'll be no use to me tonight on our third honeymoon."
It seems Judy has plans with Hugh
A pie forgotten is a tragedy unparalleled.
If you're worried about Jimmy setting the house on fire then don't, because he does that when you're here too. He puts it out usually.
"In 65 short years, you completely lose your ability to tell when people want you to stop talking"
Lose? You assume I had it in the first place!
I didn't realize how much baby Granny looks like Baby Eddie. I'm pretty sure they just reused the model they had laying around.
This is what you get for giving Goddard a sense of smell.
Jimmy is a man of principles!
"This must be a discontinued Ultralord double-barreled slingshot!"
There are two kinds of people: pathetic self-deluded dweeb-cases that own Ultralord merchandise, and pathetic self-deluded dweeb-cases that don't.
Her size may be reduced, but here sass sure hasn't.
Bird: *lands on Hugh's head*
Hugh: Well, I guess this is my life now.
Jimmy: "Nothing unusual here. Just me and Granny obeying all your rules. Yes, mam, that's what we're doing!"
Hugh seems way too upbeat about that. It's like:
What walks on 4 legs in the morning, walks on 2 legs in the afternoon and dances badly on 3 legs at night?
Carl Wheezer, that's what
Goddard knows when it's time to groove.

"I didn't realize how much baby Granny looks like Baby Eddie. I'm pretty sure they just reused the model they had laying around." I've noticed that too. I mean, it makes sense since they would be related. But they most likely just reused the animation or something.
