Because face it, Shrek was a good film. It was enjoyable, the animation was done well, the stars who voiced acted were actually pretty good at it, and it was imaginative. I really like how the princess turned permanently ugly for the ogre, instead of the ogre becoming handsome for her. Plus there are many memorable lines.
Shrek 2...wasn't bad, when you compare it to some other movie sequels. The storyline was decent, the animation on par with the original, and the new characters were good. I always get a kick out of the scene where the fairy godmother is in her flying carriage with the king and Prince Charming puts the kids meal crown on his head before eating.
Shrek 3 was really where it started going downhill. There was no positive message to be felt, the storyline wasn't as good as the previous two, and it was just getting cheesy.
This fourth Shrek, though...I don't even want to know. I will not be seeing that, because I just know that it's going to ruin the first two for me.
Some of the other Dreamworks movies...like Pigquet said, I don't really remember them. I think Robots is one, but that's all I can think of. And other than the basic plot, I don't remember that one, or any of the lines other than this one: "Honey, you missed the delivery. But don't worry. Making the baby's all the fun!" (the only reason I even remember it is because it was the first time I saw an innuendo in a children's animated film and recognized it the first time through).
So no need to hate on Dreamworks. Let's not be bullies here lol.

Beides Shrek, Dreamworks has Over The Hedge, Monsters Vs. Aliens, the Madagascar series, Kung-Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon.

Out of all the long-time film companies, Dreamworks kinda comes close to Pixar, except employment of mostly out of character celebrities and sub-par sequels.
Shrek is the obvious exception. Unlike most other films, this time the variety of celebrities used to voice the characters ACTUALLY worked.. for at least the first two films. I haven't seen Shrek the Third but taking on Mary's point, I'm sure it must've ran it's course. And now I'm not that interested in watching the forth movie.
Mike Myers suited Shrek, as did Eddie Murphy with the Donkey. This is obviously the ONLY Dreamworks movie I think the characters come alive rather than become OOC.
So sure, though Dreamworks will never come close to the greatness of Pixar, it does deserve some respect.

As for Toy Story 3, from the trailer, it's looks VERY promising. The animation has changed a bit since the last two Toy Story's (1st TS if you're me).

So, Toy Story 3 ended up being a successful film, properly ending the epic Toy Story franchise. This made Pixar a super lucky company to make top quality sequals WITHOUT sucking major eggs, as is the fate with most other sequals.
But that can change... and NOT for the better.
There's been talk.. TALK, about.... wait for it.....
A TOY STORY 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IS THIS TRUE?!?!?
