Just spent probably an hour customizing an elf witch in The Sims 3. I'll have to show you guys a screencap sometime. It took forever to get her eyes the right shade of supernatural gold

Can't wait to see her, Mary!

Meanwhile, I'm on Generation 7 now... ^^;

So. Let’s start out with my favorites: Sunil Jamsari and his wife, Erin, who had an awesome marriage and were just generally wicked cool people. Sunil was a giant science nerd who spent most of his free time using the telescope and writing astrophysics articles. Erin was an outdoorsy woman who constantly fished in the backyard pond. Both had the genius trait and loved to sit around gabbing about cosmology and nature.

Tanya Nagra was artsy and great at cooking. She had a kid with Adam Birch, but he turned out to be an absentee boyfriend and a deadbeat dad. Eventually she got tired of being taken for granted, and she kicked Adam to the curb and then proceeded to hook up with a handsome (much younger) guy, who she eventually married.

Sanjay and Sunil are twins, but they couldn’t be more different. Sanjay was a popular sports superstar with an inflated ego and a flirtatious streak a mile wide. He had a ton of girlfriends over the years (including the family maid…classy), but he never settled down with any of them. He also had a talent for martial arts and home fix-it projects. His sister, Jasmine, was a career-oriented, consummate professional. She was basically asexual and never had any serious relationships.

Do you take those screencaps on the create sim screen? I didn't get a chance to yesterday and I'm not sure how to get a good pic of my sim now.

When you're in the create-a-sim tab, tap the C key and it will automatically save a screencap to documents/Electronic Arts/Sims 3/screenshots. If you're having trouble going back to the create-a-sim screen while you're playing, you just need to know the cheat to get there. Press Shift+Ctrl+C, then type in testingcheatsenabled true to activate cheats. Now you can Shift+click on the sim and select "edit in create-a-sim".

I'll have to do that at some point.

Man...I'm really jealous of my sim. She's making $53 an hour as a part-time mystic fabricator. Clearly, I'm in the wrong career field.

So my sim married Tim's sim. And then his backseat driving style of playing came out in full force

This will take quite a bit of negotiating. He's very controlling of how his sim is played, and how his houses look. He's going to have to learn to give up some control when it's my turn to run the family, and I'm going to have to gain a lot more patience and be willing to play with fewer cheat codes.

So our game bugged somehow and the character icons vanished, leaving us unable to switch between characters. Tim had to go to work and so couldn't check it out. I tried to make a new sim family to see if it would have the same problem. It had a lot of weird bugs when I tried to build them a house, but when I bought them a premade one instead, I was able to play no problem. So now I have two new characters--an evil fairy and his blue/purple haired kleptomaniac witch girlfriend. I'm going to focus on their romance the next time I play them, so hopefully I can get them married and with child soon so I can see what genetics does with these guys.

I also want to try out what the "ask to forsake the fae/witches" does under the romance tab, but I'll have to do a save immediately beforehand just in case I don't like the result.

It looks like our game is permanently bugged -_- Tim reinstalled it, and it kept our families, but it's still wonky. We have no idea how this happened. It's super annoying, though.

Anyway, here's the sims I've created over the past few days:

First, my elf witch, Rhiannon Bard-Welsh.

And then my newest family, Jeryn Fey and his girlfriend, Ilis.

Jeryn and Rhiannon both work at the gypsy wagon in the Fortune Telling career, though I want to get Jeryn into the alchemy career track at some point. Ilis is currently a vegetable slicer at the local restaurant and market, and since she's a natural cook, it seems fitting. She's come home with a few stolen items from the restaurant, though.

Some problems with the game can be fixed by going to documents/electronic arts/sims 3/DCBackup and deleting all files EXCEPT ccmerged.package. These files are redundant and can cause the game to run slowly/glitch out/crash. But yeah, don't delete ccmerged.package or your game will break.

When the game crashes outright, it creates a log file that can be analyzed using this program here, and this can potentially tell you what's going wrong. One possibility is that your computer isn't built for gaming, and it's having trouble running the game (I can't play in "large" sized towns, for instance, because my graphics card can't handle it even though my laptop is really nice). To reduce lag and streamline gameplay, I suggest getting NRAAS's master controller and overwatch mods. They're SUPER useful and prevent/report on a lot of errors.

P.S. do you have a moondial in your house? Those things spawn errors like crazy

We're using Tim's brand new computer built specifically for gaming, so it's not that. We aren't sure what the issue is, but we'll try that redundant file deletion.

Some people only have a handful of expansion packs installed. For instance, I only have seasons, pets, supernatural, generations, ambitions, and world adventures. I don't have university life, late night, showtime, into the future, island paradise, or any of the "stuff" packs. You MUST have supernatural if you have fairies and the fortune teller career, so my guess is that you have the full bundle with all the expansion materials included.

There's maybe one or two packs we don't have, but I'm not sure which ones.

the ccmerged file was the only file in that folder, so there wasn't anything we could do with that to fix the game. We ended up deleting the cache instead, and that made it so that we could switch between sims again, but they wouldn't complete any actions we told them to do and a couple of other little glitches stayed around. What we ended up doing was saving a copy of the family along with the house to the sim library, and then bulldozing the lot. We placed the copy back into the same lot, got their house back, and everything was fully fixed.
