I thought lady sings the news was the last...
Its my opinion that cindy and jimmy are the best couple, i mean betty is pretty, but J/C has been seen throughout the show the most you must admit. Im not saying there were no J/B, but i think there was more evidence in which it shows that they liked eachother, like they had a closer bond.
Its clearly my opinion, but it doesnt mean i won't defend it ;)

I think... Cindy. I'm not a shipper, but I think it makes more sense.

Sure, Betty's nice, but she's 'Miss Popular', and she probably isn't nearly as smart as Cindy is. (In several episodes, it's pointed out that Cindy is the 'second smartest kid in school', after Jimbo of course).

Think about it. If Jim and Betty became an item, it'd be kind of... two dimensional. It'd end kinda fast. Betty and Jimmy share little in common with eachother personality-wise.

Cindy, on the other hand, shares intelligence, common sense and a strong competitive spirit with him.

Betty's more of a crush--the crush on the pretty, popular girl that just about every boy goes through. Cindy's got a deeper effect on Jimmy, though, and he knows it, and she does too--that's why they're so mean to eachother, to hide it!

I'm not trying to diss J/B shippers. It's just my two cents.

Mr. N's little rant is over now.

Eww.

Sorry.

Well, even if Jimmy fights with her, Cindy's usually the one who starts it. I know Jimmy does sometimes, but it's normally Cindy. I just don't think they're gonna be a good match if they fight all the time. Besides, she just "distracts him". :P

Mr. N, I'd have to say that... I disagree whole-heartedly (not about Cindy being right for Jimmy, just on your portrayel of Betty and Jimmy's relationship).

We do not know much of Betty's home life, or much about her at all. Period. How can we just automatically assume that even though she's pretty and nice, she doesn't have a personality fit for Jimmy and it would end quickly?

Not everyone in the whole entire world shows who they are day in and day out to all the people that are near. :) And heck, how do we know that Betty's not bright? She could be reasonably smart, maybe more. Just because Cindy is the second smartest kid in school doesn't mean that Betty lands in the "ignorant circle of doom." :P

...Yeah, so those are just my two cents along with yours which equals four cents in the opinion box... heh.

That's very right, she does!

But thinking of it all from a cartoon connoisseur's point of view, just about every show out there's got a 'pretty face' character to divert the main character's attention away from their 'true love', so t' speak. Sometimes, like in the case with Jim, Betty 'n Cindy, this character has qualities the 'true love' lacks and tests the main character's relationship (i.e. Betty's very nice while Cindy's downright mean, which attracts Jimmy to her).

In my opinion, this type of character is what Betty was made for--originally. Through the series, like all the characters, she did evolve into something more interesting, and probably something beyond the two dimensional stereotype she might have started off as.

Krista's got an excellent point--we really don't know much about her, and it's very possible that I'm completely wrong.

Then again, though... Looking at the "Out, Darn Spotlight!" episode, I wonder if anyone else noticed that she seemed to be enjoying the 'big scene' with Nick a little too much? If she was really in love with Jimmy, her enthusiasm probably would've been at least slightly dampened, wouldn't you think?

That's one little detail I draw my 'pretty face' and 'Miss Popular' conclusions from. She might just be happy with, well, any guy. Compare Nick and Jim: Nick's 'cool' and he's popular. Jimmy's a genius and he's on the road to total fame when he gets older (aww, I'm so proud!). I think a girl'd be fine with either of them, so Betty sorta goes along with whatever she's got thrown at her.

And then, back to the stereotypical cartoon school-love set-up, which I'll sketch out with painfully lacking grammar:

1. Nerdy guy likes pretty, popular girl.
2. Pretty, popular girl likes handsome, popular boy.
3. Nerdy guy does something so that pretty, popular girl likes him.
4. Everything go boom, back to square one.

One thing from this formula that doesn't happen, though, is the all-fateful, doom bringing number 4. (See the Fairly Oddparents for examples of all four steps. :D)

...And I really don't know where I'm going with this, but the point is, Betty and Jimmy's relationship is one of two things:

a) Non-existant
b) Not evolved very far at all.

Seriously. Like Krista said, we haven't seen much of Betty's personality--and for that matter, neither has Jim. They're in different classes. So Jim's infatuation with her is probably that crush I mentioned earlier.

I dunno, just a thought!

About the Nick Dean thing: It's called acting for a reason! I've been in a couple productions where two people had to "like" each other. In real life, they were actually really grossed out by it. xD Didn't it look like Betty enjoyed that scene with JIMMY a little too much? I think she just has a passion for acting onstage.

By the way, when Betty and Nick walk off stage together, that's where the curtains and stuff are, backstage areas, etc. That's possibly why they're venturing back there together. Plus, I'm not sure about this, but backstage there's an area that connects to the our director's room. Again, don't know about this, but... :P

And yeah, you're right: she could like a lot of guys, but I guess we'll always end up wondering. :ph43r:

P.S. You are right about directors putting her in the cartoon for that main purpose, I'm just saying that if they developed her character further it could be one we never quite knew! ^_^ All the could've-beens... *sighs and looks off into atmosphere*

The could've-beens are what the fans are there for! And the fanfiction and fanart and everything else that defines 'cool'.

The fans'll continue the darned show themselves. Take that, Nickelodeon! You fired me!

...Anyhow, I'm getting off-topic.

Bottom line of Mr. N's lengthy rants that no one cares about:

My vote is for Cindy. :D
