Okay, let me explain. It's a bit weird, but let me explain.

After the mysterious death of Lady Gwendolyn, I (Shok) set out on a quest...a quest of justice. My mission is to seek out her killer and slay him/her (I have an inkling a man killed her). Also, I left to attempt to find Spike, the missing Neutron Knight. If not found alive, I will--

Okay, I REALLY hate thinking about the flip side. Really, I do.

I only took Spen, my otter, for accompaniment. And so my tale unfolds...

Stupid snow...

Shok stomped her feet in the snow hard to try and warm them. Spen, fast asleep in the knapsack slung across her shoulders, snored complacently, completely unaware of the imminent cold and danger her master was in.

"I don't have anywhere to go, nowhere to run, nowhere for shelter...ugh, great thinking, Shok," she reprimanded herself, hitting herself on the temple. "Just great."

Shok was, of course, completely aware that going on a quest didn't mean five-star service and a bed decorated with flowers every night, like she was accustomed to at the castle. You served yourself, and only yourself, and with what the best you could provide. Her crossbow skills were impeccable, but her collapsible titanium one (a Christmas gift from Red Storm) didn't want to unfold in these frigid conditions. Shok considered the unthinkable for a moment.

If only Spen was an elk or something...I could slit open her belly and rest in the carcass...

There was a loud snarl in her left ear; Spen had wriggled out of the sack and apparently could read minds, particularly her masters'.

"Oh, cram it, will you? I was just speculating."

A metallic glint at the base of a tree caught Shok's eye. Spen chittered in her ear.

"That's weird..."

Throwing her sack down in a snowdrift, she ran to the tree and sank to her knees, working with all her might to clear away the snow. Spen watched warily as her master's eyes acheived a manic appearance.

A sword, laying there as though discarded at random, lay in the fluffy white snow, its blade spattered with a mysterious silver liquid. The rest of it was rusty.

"This isn't a sword," Shok said, recalling something she'd read in the Lawrence wing of the Neutron Knights' Library. "The blade is longer and slimmer...

"...it's a katana."

Her heart leaped to her throat. Lady Gwendolyn had had a katana. If this was hers, it could be a valuable clue. In excitement, and completely without any secondary thoughts, she touched the handle.

The world swam before Shok's eyes, and another image, almost more vivid than life itself, consumed her mind...

She was alone, standing in a room, the katana grasped tightly in her two hands. Her breaths were rapid, and her vision kept darting to a silver pool shimmering in a dark corner of the room.

Something cold and metal pressed into her temple. A man's voice whispered jeeringly in her ear, moving slowly in front of her, keeping in the shadows. The metal barrel of a gun rolled into her mouth, and she only had a second to savor the strange metallic taste on her tongue before pain overwhelmed her...

Shok let out a horrific scream, and fell to the snow, out cold. Spen started panicking, running back and forth over her master's chest, sniffing her hands, attempting to at least put into an animalistic sense what had just happened.

Shadowy figures emerged through the now hard-blowing snow. One plucked up the knapsack, another the katana, and another her master herself. They moved swiftly, silently; so much so that all Spen could do was follow at their heels as they carried her master away...
