So I had a snow day today and I was bored. I started thinking about the whole Lady Gwendolyn business, and then realized: "What happened to Stanley, Gwen's pet snake?"
And so, I made this short little oneshot on that subject. Enjoy! ^_^
Reptile Sitting
After a particularly challenging training session, I like to retreat to the peaceful confines of the library, grab a volume off the shelf, and relax under the influence of the written word. It brings back memories of my earlier years, when this room of books was my only friend and confidant. In the years following my father’s death, the library became a window into his world. I read everything, anything about the Neutron Knights, just for the satisfaction of learning information my father once knew. Then came that fateful accident that gave me my powers. I had finally joined ranks with my father’s peers. Years later, I still enjoy going to the old library, if only for the memories.
Today’s training had been scheduled for Stealth Recon, but there was some miscommunication, and instead I was forced to dodge Flankers, heat seeking missiles, and cannon balls in Aerial Defense. I think Red Storm enjoys putting me outside my comfort zone. So, needless to say, I was wiped out when I finally reached the library. I found the biggest book I could see and began my reading ritual: I flipped through the pages beforehand, scanning for interesting pictures or diagrams, then began reading from page one. I had just finished the first chapter when I felt a tug at my leg. I looked down to see a gigantic king cobra starting to wrap itself around my ankle.
“Hey, Stanley,” I greeted casually, returning to my book. I felt the snake wind his way up my leg, across the arm of the leather chair, and come to rest on my shoulder. He flicked his tongue, tickling my cheek. Murmuring a laugh, I turned my head do face the snake’s ever-smiling jaw.
“You want a treat, don’t ya?” I teased, reaching in a pocket of my trench coat and pulling out a couple baby carrots. He snatched them up as soon as I opened my hand and then laid his head back down on my shoulder.
Ever since Lady Gwendolyn’s ‘disappearance', Stanly has been very friendly to me, and when I say friendly, I mean clingy. I couldn’t get him off me for a week. But as time passed, we grew comfortable with each other. Other Knights started thinking of us as a pair: Writer Woman and Stanley are in the library…Writer Woman and Stanly are meeting with the Queen…I just saw Writer Woman and Stanley…
I know that he still misses Lady Gwendolyn, but it seems I’m a good substitute for him. Maybe I’ll take him with me for training next week, to scare the pants off Red Storm if he tries anything funny again.
“Come on, Stanley,” I challenged, putting the book on a table. “Race you to the stairs!”

Yay, now I get an animal buddy! ^_^

Short, sweet and well-written--definitely your forte, Beks! Nicely done, I really enjoyed it. < 3 I need to get into this whole Neutron Knights thing soon. Stuff like this makes it seem like a lot of fun.

Aww, I'm so glad Stanley's found good hands! I miss the little guy.
But just so you know, he's actually a king cobra.
No harm done~
