I'm not sure if that's completly true. It could be a clever trick to keep searching for the 'real' chest when you already have it.

But it could also be true, and then that entire mission was a waste. :rolleyes:

At least we now have an idea of where the Chest may be, and some idea of the path we must take to unlock it.

*half-smiles* What I'd like to know is what good our dear Calamitous thought a "fake" chest would do him. If only the apprentice could open the real one, why would he need to produce a replica? Why bother?

Don't worry, Spike. *puts hand on shoulder* We're here for you.

*grins* Thanks, guys. You're amazing, you know that?

*turns back to the chest and takes a deep breath* OK...

*kneels before the chest and slips the key into the lock*

*turns it slowly*

Dang my shaking hands... *laughs nervously*

OK...OK...I got it! *closes her eyes for a second, then flips open the chest*

There's...there's nothing in it!

This is ridiculous! Why would Calamitous create a replica if it didn't even give a clue to the real thing?! *feels around inside* There should be a secret compartment, a scroll, a key, an inscription...something!

Ugh! *gets to her feet and starts pacing* OK...OK...we've gotta think like Calamitous. What the heck did he do?! FORGET to put something into the dang chest?!

Wow.. Maybe there is something there.. scan it for anything possible.

*searches the chest again* Nothing! *sits cross-legged in front of it* OK. So Calamitous was capable of inscribing a complete riddle on the outside of the fake chest. It's impossible for anyone but someone with Sir Edward's blood to open the chest.

So, either Calamitous kept the chest empty for a purpose...

...or Sir Edward or one of his other relations already removed the chest's contents.

Wait a minute. Let me scan you, Spike. *holds palm pilot like device up and down over Spike* I'm picking up something here. Now think, do you have any sudden knowledge you can't remember getting?

*gulps* Wait--what are you saying?! That that freak of Eustace's DID something to me?! *backs up nervously* I--I feel the same.

No, I mean that maybe the chest had something invisible in it. Now, I want you to picture the chest in your mind. Can you feel anything now?

*draws a deep breath and closes her eyes*

I DO feel different. And wait! There's something. *pauses*

OK. I see...a small compartment at the bottom of the chest. It's right in the center...

*opens her eyes and kneels before the chest*

It's right...here. *places her hand in the center, then slides her fingers along its surface until she finds an indent* Here we go... *pulls open the compartment to reveal a small cavity containing a single pebble*

What the heck...? *picks it up and studies it closesly* Guys, it says something, but I'm going to need a magnifying glass...
