...Just kidding...but will you enter anyway? Please? :kawaii:
Let me lay it out for you, real simple like:
THIS IS A WRITING CONTEST. A VERY EASY ONE, WITH LOTS OF ROOM FOR CREATIVITY.
RULES
Write a oneshot or a short story featuring ONE [1] <-- of the following characters that I just randomly invented. There are FIVE characters to pick from:
1) Tony Rivetti: Very suave, leather-jacket wearing nineteen-year-old from a bad urban neighborhood. A bit of a ladykiller, he spends too much time on his hair.
2) Harvey Jenkins: Hillbilly type who grew up in the backwoods of the Ozarks. Lives in a shack, has a pronounced accent and a shaggy dog.
3) Ruby Holiday: 1920's showgirl/entertainer. She has short, wavy brown hair and red lips, and she fills out her flapper's costume more than she would like.
4) Riley Groll: A decidedly unattractive third grader with dull red-hair and incredibly bad luck.
*can be a boy or a girl
5) Violet Pinny: Young substitute teacher with a penchant for landing VERY difficult classes and whose biggest fear - becoming like her horrid 4th grade substitute, Mrs. Hanky - seems to be an inevitability.
The story can be of any length (longer than a paragraph, please), take place in any setting, and can be about anything. However, ONE of the characters listed above has to be your protagonist, and you have to develop their personality/character based on the snippets of information provided. I guess you could call it a characterization contest.
You can enter up to three times, if for some miraculous reason you want to.
PRIZES
Provided there are at least ten entries, the first place prize will be 500 post points and a drawing of any FEMALE character you want (sorry, drawing guys takes FOREVERRR). You tell me who you want me to draw, and I'll do it~ Alternatively, I can do a portrait of YOU (just send me a pic and I'll draw you in my style!)
Second place is 1,000 extra posts. YA. Big number.
Deadline
The contest ends February 15th. WRITE FOR YOU LIVESSS!!
CLARIFICATIONS:
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING: RILEY GROLL CAN BE A BOY OR A GIRL, BUT ALL THE OTHER CHARACTERS MUST RETAIN THEIR GIVEN GENDER. IF YOU USE ONE OF THE CHARACTERS AS A MINOR CHARACTER, THEY HAVE TO RETAIN THEIR PERSONALITY AND PERTINENT INFO. FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU HAVE RILEY GROLL MEET RUBY HOLIDAY, THEN RILEY GROLL MUST LIVE IN THE 1920'S, BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN RUBY LIVED. ANOTHER EXAMPLE WOULD BE IF YOU WROTE A STORY ABOUT VIOLET PINNY, AND HARVEY JENKINS APPEARED IN IT. HARVEY WOULD HAVE TO BE A HILLBILLY GUY WITH A SHAGGY DOG, EVEN IF HE'S STILL A MINOR CHARACTER.

~Since you put this under "JN Works" I'm assuming this is set in Retroville or something of the sort. Do the OCs have to have any sort of interaction with the JN characters, or do they share just a similar setting?
Sorry for the stupid question, I just need some clearing up. But I DEFINITELY will enter this without a doubt (maybe once or twice... or uh, I dunno, thrice. JK)! It sounds like a fun challenge.
PS. Tony... hmm, reminds me of someone from a movie made in the seventies based off of the fifties. Oh YEAH! Grease, was it? ;) Heehee, cute. Grease lightning, go grease lightning!

THIS CONTEST HAS NO CONNECTION WITH THE JN UNIVERSE.
I only posted it here because it would seem random to post a contest anywhere except...well, the contest forum.
Plus I'm the admin and I can post things wherever I want :D
LOL, ya, now that you mention it, it does seem reminiscent of Grease.. Random info:
I saw the name "Tony Rivetti" in the credits of a movie I was watching under makeup crew or something and thought it would make a cool character. So that's where he came from.
Riley Groll is an actual person in my little brother's school, as is Ruby Holiday. Harvey Jenkins is an improv character I play when my brother and I do improv (he's farmer Brown, and we take turns insultin' each other and fighting over my wife, Barbara). Violet Pinny was a character I invented in an English story (I still have the ridiculous thing if anyone wants to read it). And there you have it.

I think I could mesh a few characters together. Can I do that?
Slink
P.S. If I can, NO STEALING MY IDEA!!! I want a pwetty, pwetty Mara picture.
EDIT: By 'mesh' I mean have more than one of the given characters in a story.

Thanks for all the cool informachuunz, Mara. I actually thought Ruby Holiday was completely made up! It also reminds me of Ruby Tuesdays for some odd reason but yeah. D: Barbara? Barbara? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?
And yes, I'd love to read that ridiculous story. <3
Slink: Isn't the point of this to have things from a certain character's point of view to make them more developed, or more characterized? Wouldn't that be hard to have more than one (well... unless the other characters are background characters?). Oh, and even though you mentioned it first, I had thought of it, too, so it wasn't technically your idea (and I'm sure other people have had this thought, as well).

Nope, just pick one character and make the story about them. You can make up other background characters yourself if you want, but you can only include one from the list.I think I could mesh a few characters together. Can I do that?
EDIT: By 'mesh' I mean have more than one of the given characters in a story.
THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS IN THE CASE OF VIOLET PINNY AND RILEY GROLL. One can function as a background character in the other's story if you feel so inclined.

Remind me why I am entering again? 'All hope is lost!' Ehwell, I'll see what I can do...
-whistles-(thanks to a couple of people who shall remain nameless. Ya know who you are ).
QUESTION: Does the story have to based in America or w/e? I'm more comfortable writing about stuff that's familar to me, a.k.a. Australia.

Oh, and
I don't think anyone would really mind if you set one of your stories in Australia. It's still a story, after all!QUESTION: Does the story have to based in America or w/e? I'm more comfortable writing about stuff that's familar to me, a.k.a. Australia.
