Yes, it is. From a country called Czechoslovakia in Europe.

Actually, it's not called Czechloslovakia anymore. They actually slit it into two seperate countries. It's now "Česká Republika (Czech Republic)" and "Slovakia". It was messed up after Nazi Germany took over, and I think it only officialy became two countries in 1992, or 1993. After my family (err, my maternal grandparents) imigrated to Canada, of course, because we're from there. We're from Prague, actually.

I don't know when my Czech ancestors came to the US. Distantly enough where none of us know the language, that's for sure.

I call my grandfather "Dzedo" (grandfather in Czech), but that's pretty much the extend of my knowlege of the language-- one-word sentences. He speaks Czech, though.

My last name, unfortunately, is British like my father's side, because it's my maternal grandfather that was from Prague. My mother's maidenname was Czech, though-- Bak. My grandfather and my aunt (my mother's sister) still have that last name, though my mom kept her married name after she got divorced because it "sounds better". And my Nana (maternal grandmother)'s been remarried a couple times since my Dzedo, so she's not a Bak anymore...

It's pronounced like the sound chickens make: bock. My mother's nickname in highschool was "Bak the Rock". LOL.
