It does start slow and a bit cheesy, but it builds and picks up steam about halfway through the season. There's tons of awesome character growth, and no shortage of badass ladies. The one character that used to super grate on me I now adore. If you're into character-driven dramas, this has turned from an alright show into a OMGSUPERGREAT show, like Malcolm said.
