Everyone here makes a big deal about Cindy’s character development throughout the series but I don’t really see it - one thing I’ve heard before is the praise of her “change from semi-antagonist to one of the main protagonists” but she still had her typical season 1/early s2 role of mostly causing problems for Jimmy in several season 3 episodes (“Best in Show”, “Who Framed Jimmy Neutron” and “Jimmy Goes to College” to name a few) while even in pretty early episodes (“Beach Party Mummy”, “A Beautiful Mine”) she supports Jimmy on the adventure. I think that she just sort of alternates these roles throughout the series. Also her romance with Jimmy only got serious really in “Stranded” and maybe a couple of the other last episodes - Jimmy still spent way more time with Carl and Sheen and still only found Cindy annoying in several of those episodes.

Any comments on my take?

I definitely think they should have done more with Cindy's development throughout the show. Her relationship with Jimmy is kinda rough and has mostly stayed that way except for a few episodes, and the way she treats Jimmy kinda feels more like a cycle than a love/hate relationship. I wish in season 2 that she started being more nice to Jimmy outside of the romantic moments. I don't flat out hate Jimmy and Cindy's relationship or Cindy as a whole i just wished they did more with her and why she is so stuck up towards Jimmy.

To be fair, she did get nicer to Jimmy outside of romantic moments in some season 2 and 3 episodes (such as in "Retroville 9", when she thanks Jimmy for his leadership not knowing he was cheating, and in "The Great Egg Heist", when she helps Jimmy retrieve the egg and lets him call her his friend) - as for the stuck-upness - it is most likely a result of her conflicted feelings towards Jimmy and some have theorized that, due to the stuffy characterization of her mother, it is a bit of a "mommy issue" thing. I just mean that I feel like Jimmy and Cindy's relationship is a bit overrated since it actually rarely comes up.

I find your "cycle" comment interesting. Could you elaborate more on how that is different from a love-hate relationship?
