Despite all the criticisms and hatred this show got after its series finale, it's still a very special show for me overall. It's one of the shows I was able to follow live (I became a fan after the mid-Season 3 finale) It's right up there with Hey Arnold as my top two.
Marco's character resonated with me deeply because I'm exactly like him earlier on the show (awkward, trying hard, and afraid to take risks) He's legit, the first cartoon character I see myself in
Tho, I will echo the consensus that Season 2 is the best part of the show when it comes to writing and plot. Season 1 is good, in a goofy way and there's enough continuity to keep me hooked. Season 3 is where a lot of political drama popped out which IMO is good, but I need the balance they did in S2 more. Season 4 is okay overall, I was just taken a back with how magic being branded as evil suddenly became a big deal. I don't have any strong feelings about magic being destroyed but I get people not liking the idea.
Finally, Starco became my favorite ship of all time. I love how they started as friends, being platonically dependent on each other to slowly falling in love, it's such a beautiful development. My only grasp it that they should've been canon a bit earlier in S4 rather than dragging Tomstar too long when almost everyone knew it wouldn't last due to Star's attention being on her political duties and Marco all the time. Also, if people are looking for a boy and girl platonic relationship until the end, please don't look for that here. There are too many hints this show gave since S1 that Starco is not gonna cater to those and that didn't ruin the show, please.
