I do wish there hadn't been quite as many obvious parallels to A New Hope, but it didn't bother me too much. Overall, I thought it was a great start to a new series.

I love the characters of Rey and Finn. I'm extremely interested in Rey's journey, and can't wait to see her learn more about The Force. I think she is most likely Luke's daughter... but what I think would be cool (though less likely) would be if she was Obi-wan's granddaughter... because then we would have the granddaughter of Obi-wan Kenobi vs. the grandson of Anakin Skywalker! Either way, I love her character, and Daisy Ridley is a fantastic actress.
I'm not as interested in Finn, but I thought he was fun and entertaining. I look forward to seeing more of him.

Kylo Ren was an awesome villain. I loved seeing his struggle against the Light Side, and I like that he's not totally invincible. I can't wait to see where they go with him. The actor was great, and I could even see a little of Harrison Ford in his face.

And of course, the return of the old characters! Harrison Ford... I really believed this was an older Han Solo. He played it perfectly. Admittedly, I saw his death coming a mile away (pretty much the moment they revealed that Kylo Ren was his son). It's no secret Harrison Ford thought he should have died in Return of the Jedi - it's probably the only way they were able to get him back. It was still extremely sad though... watching a character I've known and loved for years die like that... And Chewie's reaction broke my heart.
Carrie Fisher was good for what screen time she had. I really liked the first scene between her and Han. And C3PO's introduction was perfect.

I do have a few criticisms... like I said before, several scenes, I found just a little TOO similar to A New Hope.
I also wasn't thrilled with the design of Supreme Leader Snoke - it seemed just a little too generic for me. I'll wait to see where they go with the character though.
I hoped Captain Phasma would have more to do... especially considering they got Gwendoline Christie to play her... Oh, well...
I also thought the music, while not bad, didn't particularly stand out. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the main theme, and I loved it whenever they played it in this... but aside from that, no particular musical moments from the film really stick in my head. No "Imperial March" or "Duel of the Fates"...
Oh, and I didn't really understand the whole R2 thing. Why did he come to life at the end there? Did I miss something?

Those are relatively minor criticisms though. Like I say, I loved the movie.

I honestly enjoyed the movie quite a bit.

I honestly have to say the three things I was most impressed with were (1) Kylo Ren (2) The way the film payed its respects to the old films instead of simply ripping off the good stuff. (3) TR8-T0R the Stormtrooper

 

Kylo Ren is in my oppinion honestly one of the better villains so far. I'm quite interested in seeing where they go with his Dark/Light struggle. I get the feeling he simply isn't cut out for the dark side stuff, it's as if he is trying to force himself to fall for some reason... so the question now is, "why?" I also get the feeling that the way he killed his father will come back to haunt him constantly in the next few movies.

 

As far as paying respects to the old movies I like how they brought things back without just copy/pasting them. For instance "You're Han Solo! You're the pilot who mad the Kessel run in 14 parsecs!" "TWELVE!!"

 

And as for TR8-TOR well, I thought he was pretty cool in the movie but then when I got home and got online it hit me just how loyal this man is. 10/10 Would punish Traitors with.

I've been pondering what I said earlier in the other thread about Rey being OP and have changed my mind.

I was originally looking at it from the perspective that she would have no room to grow, but instead, I should have been looking at how we'll discover more of her past. Which is what JJ was really pointing at throughout.

Watched this tonight, I honestly liked it though I know a lot of people don't care for it much. I did notice the parallels with this movie and the original, but for me it was done differently enough I could get past it. Though I don't feel like I can say a lot, being a very new fan, but for me it was just a nice continuation to the series.

I didn't know people disliked it? I feel like most of the people I encounter like it despite the similarities to the original. And with the new one coming out I'm super excited to see where they will take the story!

Sooooo, what did y'all think of The Last Jedi upon seeing it for the first time?? I finally got to see it in February this year, and it was well worth the wait! I loved every minute of it!!

The story line was a bit of a disappointment for me. I didn't hate it, but I felt like there were so many places they could've taken it and didn't. *le sigh* But it's a fun enough trilogy to watch.

Oh, you bet it is! I found it real touching what Luke did near the end of the film, and the action was just epic! I'm glad we've seen the last of Snoke, too... Ugly bastard... Believe it or not, I've yet to see The Rise of Skywalker, even though it's been almost a year and a half since it premiered... I really wanna see it, though! Heard it gets pretty intense at one point in it! If you've seen it, please don't spoil it for me...! I wanna find out what happens for myself once I get to see it!

Over all the trilogy was okay imo, with Last Jedi being the weakest/odd one out for sure. Rise of Skywalker was okay, it seemed to weirdly retcon or ignore some of Last Jedi which, if you're going to do a trilogy seems a little odd, but I believe it's because of the different directors trying to tell different stories. Rise was intense in some parts and overall entertaining, it wasn't as bad as people complained it was, just not my favorite Star Wars film by any means.
