Hello again to this forum.  My name is Ryan (aka quietthinker).  I've written a lot of JN stories on fanfiction.net & even did a video Q&A a couple years ago that I posted on this website.  I recently started a blog and wrote a post about how two years ago, several other fanfiction writers & I made a year-long attempt to revive Jimmy Neutron and become its new writers.  We're finally willing to discuss this story since the chances of our version of JN getting picked up are essentially zero.  Please check out the post at the link below if you're interested.

Hi, Ryan. I really enjoyed reading your post! I've always thought you have a really nice writing, that's why you've been one of my favorite FF author's since many years ago.

You know, despite the fact that Nickelodeon didn't purchase your script for a JN's 4th season or even for Continuum, I think you have what it needs to make it successful!! I'm willing to support your work because I believe you have great skills in the matter. ;)

BTW, is there any chance of reading your JN script? I wouldn't mind to pay a fee for it.  Anything to support the fandom :)

I'm not surprised you were turned down. Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom, the very essence of corporate assholery. DNA Productions is defunct. Even if you get the creators on board with a project, you have to overcome the hurdle of convincing the exec bigwig types to re-greenlight a series that has already failed. It's next to impossible.

That said, I'm a bit surprised that none of you at any time thought to ask for help or collaboration from any of the people here on IDOJ, the longest-running JN fansite on the internet. Seeing as this website has both talented authors and writers, it seems a shame that they were never informed of this project or given a chance to assist. In fact, I don't believe that any of your JN fandom projects - whether they be interviews or online chat sessions - have ever included people from IDOJ.

Best of luck pursuing Continuum.

You can reproach him that he never asked for help from the people here on IDOJ, but maybe that's because they had their reasons. And c'mon, Jimmy wasn't cancelled yesterday. If I'm not wrong, next year, it's going to be the 10th anniversary since it was cancelled. Ten years!! *sobs*

The fandom is still – somehow – alive, but we all have had that same time to do our own efforts to keep supporting the show. If there are any IDOJers left with the initiative, they have had already done something during all this years, you can't blame him for working with a small team and not sharing with the others, but keep it as a secret... Maybe he wanted to surprise all of us.

Just for the record, a fandom's efforts shouldn't stop there, after Nickelodeon's refusal. There are many other ways to keep our JN urges pleased. In the past, I would have suggested to do our own fanmade 4th season... but that implies a lot, and as I said before, it's hard to find people with the same initiative, determination, and time to spend in this kind of projects.

Something I'm starting to accept this year, is what Nickelodeon said in the second reply, we should move on, and start with our own original projects instead of fanmade stuff. Don't you agree, too?

I've never believed, even for a second, that JN fans had any real chance of reviving the show. I mean, if the larger and much more vocal Hey Arnold fandom couldn't do it, what are the chances that we could? I think there's about a one year period after a children's show is cancelled where there is a slight possibility that it could be brought back with fan support...but after that, it's basically hopeless. As far as I'm concerned, Jimmy Neutron belongs to all of us now - to be kept alive through fanfics, fanart, and the like. I do find it slightly presumptuous that one fan thought that he and a few others could basically "take over" and supplant the writers who made the show what it was. Without Jed Spingarn, Gene Grillo, Steven Banks, and co., it just wouldn't be JN, would it?

Perhaps I'm in the minority who thinks that the show ended at a good time and should be left as is - or, if it's to be resurrected, it should either bring back the original writers or get a larger percentage of the fandom involved. To each their own.

Whenever I post here; I seem to bring conflict.  Please let me explain some of my thoughts on this project and try to defuse this situation.

First of all, thank you very much to whoever read my blog and to latinvortex for your kind words.  I'm still trying to get a following for my blog and my newly published novel, so I greatly appreciate every hit, comment, and purchase.  Latin Vortex, I'm very happy that I'm one of your favorite authors.  I've appreciated your reviews ot my work.  If you have any other questions or comments about my work, please feel free to send me a message on fanfiction.net .  As far as letting you read the scripts; I've asked my writing partner Ed what he thinks.  We've been keeping a tight seal on the documents in case of the very slim chance that Nick one day changes their mind.  That is of course very unlikely, but we like to keep our bases covered.  If we do decide to let others read them, there would never be a fee for that.

To speak bluntly, I feel like this is a very inclusive website and is hard to break into.  I never know of this site until a few years ago.  If i had known it existed back when JN was around and had just ended, I'm sure I would have loved to be a part of this community.  Obviously Mara did a great job of creating a place where fans of JN can come and hang out; and it is a very well made site.  I've never said anything bad about this site and would have liked to be a larger part of it in the past, but again, I didn't know it even existed.

I'll now comment on some of the other issues that Corinne raised.

We chose not to include the IDOJ community because, as I said, Ed and I were never a part of it.  As Latinvortex insinuated, we thought it best we stick to a small creative team.  It was hard enough working with 5 people (Myself, Ed, Saundra, Keith, & Mike) considering none of us were in the same location.  It was very chaotic making sure we were all up to date on all of our research and writing.  And again, we didn't know people from this site.  Ed, Saundra, and myself were friends and we respected each other's writing ability, which is why we worked on this together.

I want to be clear that I harbor no ill feelings towards people on this site or the site itself.  Just because I am not an active member of something does not mean I detest it.

We also knew that our chances were very slim, but we figured this was the best way to revive the show.  Standard show revival attempts had already been made, so we figured trying to revive the show with us as new writers was, at the very least, a bold and new tactic that would draw some attention and respect.  It also helped that Mike had in "in" with Nickelodeon, as I mentioned on the blog.

Lastly, we never intended to "usurp" the show from its viewers.  We were already working with two members of the JN's creative team (MIke & Keith).  We got feedback from two of its previous writers and also contacted its showrunner Jed Springarn, who gave us his blessing.  We never really considered that people would be unhappy if we brought the show back; we figured they'd be happy.  If they didn't want to watch the new show, they didn't have to.  We never had any plans whatsoever to retroactively change the earlier JN episodes or movie, which is the only move I could picture upsetting the fans.  And again, we weren't trying to steal this project from its old crew.  We were working in conjunction with many of them.  While we were all very eager to work as writers for JN, a show that greatly inspired us, we also expected that Nickelodeon would have additional writers working with us.  We would have welcomed to work with older writers of JN.

I hope that clears some things up.

It's ok if you don't believe in any chances of reviving the show, but you can't ask people to stop believing. After all, we are part of the same team. And I don't know why people keep comparing us with the Hey Arnold fandom, there is more beyond that. Have you heard about the InvaderCon? It's amazing what they are doing there.

Have you heard about Code Lyoko's latest season? It was a 2-D and CGI show, in case you didn't watch it. It was cancelled in 2007. But last year, it was brought back with a new season, this time as live action and CGI animation. I think THAT is amazing. And that fandom never stop beliving, and they're not doing it now that the production has some big issues. :)

I do find it slightly presumptuous that one fan thought that he and a few others could basically "take over" and supplant the writers who made the show what it was.

Don't take it wrong. They were looking for quality, keeping the script and the whole concept in line. Besides, the article says they actually ask for help to people from the DNA Production… isn't it a little presumptuous to think that if they had shared the project with the IDOJ forum would have make it better? I'm sure that the writing would have turn to be more like a fanfiction that a real tvshow script. lol

BTW, sorry for my rusty english. Greets! :D

[EDITED] It seems I didn't read your reply on time! lol

Just my thoughts! Thanks for the whole explanation… I was thinking: If you wait a few more years to share the full script, I think I will find it more valuable. Like finding an island's treasure or drinking a glass of mature wine (no, i'm not drinking that, but I think you get my point, lol) :D

Hey, congrats on all the positive feedback from the professionals! Even if your proposals haven't worked out, it sounds like you're well on your way to becoming a screenwriter. It's very exciting to hear from people and companies that you hold in high esteem that you've done quality work. I'm sure you'll make it if you keep putting forth the effort. Looking forward to some day seeing a new, original series with your name on it. :)
