I apologize if there has already been a thread relating to this discussion, but im just curious....Which Jimmy Neutron fan fiction that you have read was the most accurate to the characters personalities or situations they would be in? I remember reading GInnyN's fan-comics when i was a kid, and i thought to myself "it's like watching an actual episode. I got the same vibe when i strarted reading "The Other Side of Tommorow". All of the dialouge in these fanfictions were pretty much something i can clearly imagine Jimmy & the gang saying. It felt like they were canon JN eps. Which JN Fanfic do you think gave off that feeling the most?

 

By the way, I'm not new here, i've had multiple accounts (PlasmaHawk, CyanoByte, RetroDale95, etc). took multiple hiatuses from IDOJ and had to keep changing them cause i kept forgetting my password and eventually I just left. I'm back now! Hopefully im here for good,

GaDS2000's work is widely considered to be the most in-character.  Those stories are easily some of the best written.
 

Farley Drexel does a great job, but his stories have the characters a little older.  I think that they are a good representation of how the kids would act when they grew up a little.

 

Linklover77 also does a good job in her fic "The Unwelcome House Guest."

Widely considered? By whom? Did the fandom hold a vote on 'most in-character fic writer' while I was away?

I remember enjoying a lot of GaDS work...but wasn't he also the guy who wrote the fic about Cindy selling her soul?

 

Just curious, how much JN fanfiction have you read? Do you read the stuff on IDOJ or just on ff.net, and do you look for popular fics, lengthy fics, or fics of a certain genre? Cause you didn't even mention Mara's work, even though The Other Side of Tomorrow is the 2nd most reviewed JN story on fanfiction.net (after the classic one from '06 by Kaze-no-Tenshi) and the most-reviewed one here. It's not my favorite fanfic ever or anything, but I think it definitely deserves a mention on the list. It's amazingly in-character and plausible for a story involving travel between parallel universes.

I didn't mention TOSOT because JordanPowers mentioned it in his post.   I also haven't read it myself.  I did not say the story was bad; I merely did not realize mentioning it was required in any discussion of Jimmy Neutron fanfiction.  Having posted over half a million words' worth of JN stories myself and been been reading other fanfics for six years, I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on the subject.  And while I cannot adequately attest to the accuracy of the statement "GaDS2000's work is widely considered to be the most in-character," it is my opinion that his stories are well done, and I have talked to several other writers on the site who agree.

I dunno 'bout the rest but I see that Emily and Mara have the characters right on the nose.

 

I can't even seem to find anyone else like these two whom have the characters acting out like John Alexander intended.

I find that Kate(Katia)'s fics are also really spot on!  Awesome work, girl!!

To be honest, I don't read much Jimmy Neutron Fanfiction. Either it is full of romance stuff (especially for J/C, which *shocker* I do not support...I know I know. I have your torches & your pitch-forks right here   

 

I try to read some...but it is either I am not interested in it by what I've read...or I got a little scarred from reading it. (COUGHCOUGHCOUGHHopeforthehopelessCOUGHCOUGHCOUGH) Ahem...nothing...nothing!!!

So glad Mar didn't delete this topic, cuz I have another admirable JN fic I'd like to add which has the characters totally spot on: The Good, the Bad, and the Wealthy! I love this one, too, and I'm glad she still updates it now and then...! You ROCK, Mar!!

I honestly think that each author I've read brings something new and fresh to the characters.

 

Fanfic is fanfic. Like, yes, we should hold people accountable and call out out of character writing, but it is also just an interpretation of media. Also, I should add that I've found it's bad for my own mental health to worry about nailing that 'in character' magic so I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. As long as you get the voice mostly right, I'll like the story at least a little.  

 

I do take it seriously, but not so seriously that it offends me. Unless it's completely awful (like triggering or overly violent).

Well, thanks, girl! That means a lot! I'm finally starting to feel inspired to write more again, at least a little! Just need to figure out how to put that inspiration into words!
