If there are any fans of "The Outsiders" here on IDOJ, we should totally make a fan club (er, that's what I'm doing right now, I suppose...)! I just finished reading the novel and watched the movie in class-- it was amazing. I cried for soo long after Dally died in the book that my teacher had to sent me out to the hall to calm down. So, anyone else just as emotionally attatched to those Greasers and Socs as I am? Should I make a members list?

Wow, I haven't read that book in sooo long. It was eighth grade, I think. I'll have to remind myself of it. As I remember, I really liked it. ^_^

I'm in grade eight now, and we just read it, so you're probably right. ...It was an AMAZING book. So sad, but wonderfully written at the same time... *sigh* There should have been sequels. (Instead she wrote another book that has minor mentions of some of the characters, but hardly qualifies as a "sequel". <_<)

Me too! The book and movie were awesome!!

Did you know they made a TV series? IT WAS CRAP. Not joking. Bad actors, bad acting, bad plots, major incosistancies... *sigh*

I watched the first three episodes of The Outsiders TV series (but not the pilot, I couldn’t find it) to see if I could get some inspiration for that for my fanfiction, and man, was I disappointed. No wonder it only lasted one season! For those of you who haven’t seen it, it takes place right after the movie left off— but Pony’s hair is brown again. And I could live with that... if Sandy didn’t show up claiming the baby was Soda’s and asking him for 200 bucks for an abortion. The actors are crap, and the characters aren’t even in character— Soda tried to pawn their mother’s ring for the money, and can’t stop talking about how he wants to go shoot people in Vietnam.

Other points of interest in the first three episodes: Steve plays the guitar, and he Soda and Two-Bit start a greaser band, which plays at the high school dance because Marcia and Cherry ask them too. Apparently everyone’s friends now, including the Socs and greasers. Buck and Darry take Pony on a fishing trip, where Darry admits that his ‘first time’ was with a twenty-eight-year-old when he was fifteen, and Buck says his first time was with his cousin under the porch of their grandmother’s house when he was twelve. There’s also this new girl named Scout who basically replaces Johnny and is Ponyboy’s love interest, and Soda is all emo and quits his job at one point. Oh, and he and Steve work at Buck’s now, and Darry apparently has a life-debt to Tim Shepard for taking the rap for stealing a car when he was fifteen.

*sigh* I HAVE LOST MY FAITH IN HUMANITY. Honestly. A BAND? And Darry suddently being all buddy-buddy with Pony and talking about his sex life? And the world suddenly revovling around Buck and Tim! I mean, really. <_< I was disapointed.

I write fanfiction for The Outsiders now, did you know? It's okay, I guess (I hope). Maybe you'd like to read some of it?
Here's a link to my Fanfiction.net profile. I have three stories right now, two are one-shots and the other is an on-going series of one-shots that all fit together to a common theme (You Know You're a Greaser, When...). Hope ya like. ;)

i'm an outsiders fan. i just graduated 8th grade and i had to read that in 8th grade svhool year. i love that book.S.E hinton is a great author. Once I finished reading "the outsiders" i decided to reead another book of hers called "that was then this is now" I bought the book, then i finished reading the book within a day. i loved that book too. Also Pony is a mnor charcter in this book. i highly recommed you guys to read that book.

oh yeah i heard that the series was lame. i heard that Pony lost"it".That iu so OOC for Ponyboy, and i heard was laso OOC.In the book Darry doesn't like Buck but io heard in the series they were friends.but what i heard about the series from you, i now know its even worse than i thought it was. I can't see Darry talking about his sex life. I am aare that the person S.E hinton based Soda on went to Vietnam buti can't see Soda being excited about the war. The book also said that sandy cheated on him, which means that the bays isn't Soda's and that Soda never slept with her

I think the point was that Soda was sleeping with her, but they were using protection so the baby was less likely to be his. But whatever. It doesn't really matter.

I read "That was Then, This Is Now" too. I cried at the end. XD I'm reading "Rumble Fish" now. Have you read it? I don't think there are any outsiders characters in it, but its good nonetheless. I'm also looking for a copy of "Tex", which has Mark and Bryon in it I think, but my local library doesn't have a copy. -_-

Yeah, the series really stinks. Not cool.

Me too! Though I can see a girl like Cathy ending up with Ponyboy (which is what happend).

What I thought was the most heart-breaking is the part when Mark says, "I needed to make sure I hated you." and then leaves. That was terrible! Poor Bryon! He was only trying to do what he thought was right, at the time.

Oh, and M&M not being able to have kids. That was sad, too, because in the beggining he wanted like twelve, because he grew up in such a big family. Him not being allowed to have kids later in life because of the long-term effects of the drugs was heartbreaking, too.

True, but they were together for a while (at least a few monthes, I believe). its too bad they didn't make it. I think they would have complemented each other nicely.

I'm still trying to find Tex. I read Rumble Fish (ah-mazing, as always), but my library doesn't have Tex, and I'm pulling out my hair because it's one of the only ones I haven't read yet.
